i’ve never liked learning statistics (as it’s a lot of math :< ) however i do understand the importance of it. being a psych student means reading a lot of studies and sometimes just reading the abstract, introduction and discussion isn’t enough. being able to understand the results section (and some parts of the method section) is really essential in being able to read a paper properly. the discussion section can actually be biased! authors can write their discussions in a way that makes their results seem as if they’re significant or have a large effect even when they don’t. if you can read the method section with all its fancy and sometimes confusing jargon, the wording of the discussion will affect your opinion and understanding less as you can develop your own interpretations of the data! remember, the discussion is just someone’s (or multiple someones’) view on the data, it can be distorted by biases, misinterpretation, or deliberate change.
anyway, learning to understand statistics is really important, but i still dislike it hehe
