Projects #4 Artist critique

Given the chance to create a film for class was a very cool project since videography is what I try to do for a living! With this concept of having myself in the video I wanted to create a very music video type of vibe but more so video art. I used my editing skills and had a friend help to record me performing different actions from walking to skateboarding and yes and over excess of headbanging. Anyway it came out very creative visually and I am prof of my work!

PROJECT 3 - Vanishing and becoming AMV

Artist’s response

For project 3 “Vanishing and Becoming" I wanted to utilize time, preferably past and present. The clips I used is from an anime called Naruto that I use to watch growing up. The anime has a deep story between two ninja characters whose worlds conflict in their universe. Anyway I used two different episodes in which both characters are fighting in both past an present. With this idea I created a sort of deep feeling to the video since the characters have such a strong bond. Vanishing and becoming Is the past and present fading in and out of each other.

Reading response

Projection and how it has been used and identified over time is what this reading was about. Shadows are thought to be the first projections that man has used in which reality from one being bleeds onto something we can see. Going as far back as breaking the 2nd commandment, projection was first early used and thought of as immortality or a sort of false god representation of ones reality. These early images were seen as a way of living beyond death. Projection since then has moved more towards film and video art. New clever ways of projection and how it is projected on different objects is the where we are at today!
