Day 11 of 366 #nonewclothes If you're ever looking for a fresh take on your wardrobe, I recommend letting someone else put an outfit together for you! Typically I ask my 4 year old to style me, but she went to visit her grandparents, so I asked my husband @allaboutsuspenders to put a couple of looks together for me, I think he did pretty well - what do you think? Day 4 of 366 #nonewclothes 100% #secondhand - even the socks (though I found them in a #thriftstore new with tags on). You'd be surprised how common it is to find new with tags socks at #thriftstores - these ones in particular look super cute poking out the top of boots, and they were $1.50! . . . Rule number one of #thrifting is never miss a #valuevillage 50% off sale! I was too sick to #thrift on Sunday, but I managed to make it to the remaining 2 hours of the sale yesterday evening. My commitment to #notbuyingnew has lead to not owning a lot of shoes. This is largely due to planter fasciitis making buying shoes difficult. But I do sometimes have luck with #thrifting shoes from time to time! . . . All three of these pairs of shoes were #secondhand Grey Converse and black Rockport Mary Janes from @valuevillage_thrift , Coral Fly London Sandals are over 15 years old, from when I worked at @trendcalgary The rest of the outfit were also #valuevillagefinds, except the #vintage earrings - they were my grandmother's 🥰 . . . When shopping for shoes, it's important to make sure the soles and insoles are in good condition, and sanitize them using alcohol spray, tea tree oil or even hand sanitizer. . . . I always check for scarves, hats, and jackets when I go #thriftshopping , for myself, my husband, and my kids. It's amazing how many times I have found outerwear in amazing condition for unbelievable prices! . . . American Eagle toque, $6 from @platosclosetcalgarynw , Aeropostale scarf, #valuevillage $3.99, Columbia jacket was a splurge at $17.99 also at VV. Normally, I wouldn't pay that much, but it was I'm excellent condition - no stains, runs, or drips- and I had a 20% off coupon, so I actually only paid about $15 for it. Knowing that this jacket would have been over $100 new, I figured $15 was probably worth it (it was!). For those into #enviromentalism it's good to remember that the most #sustainableclothing is what you already own. I have had this #marvel sweatshirt for years, and I can think of at least 5 distinctly different looks I can create around it. I achieve this by sticking to a relatively small colour palette, allowing for increased versatility. I do deviate from time to time, but for the most part, I try not to even pull items that don't won't work with what I already own. . . . The lost art of mending is something I feel every #thriftshopper should consider reviving. Whether your reasons for thrifting are budget or environmental (or both), basic mending skills - such as reattaching buttons or hemming - will put you at a huge advantage. . . . I found this blazer at @thriftopia.yyc for $3, but the buttons needed to be reinforced. So, despite mending being one of my least favorite parts of the #thriftlife , I sucked it up and sewed them back on! I feel like it was worth it. I love a good #grandpacardigan ! I asked @allaboutsuspenders if this combo looked good or weird, and he said "both" so I went with it. . . .
