Okay now that Vampires is over i need to go on a rant session about a lot of people not understanding why Scott felt any remorse or pain for Avid’s death; because honestly, all the people talking about the situation just feel like they didn’t watch Scott’s pov and dont understand his character at ALL.
I like to keep things positive but this honestly! Pisses me off whenever people dont understand Scott’s characterization in ANY series! He’s been shitted on so many times for things that people just dont look through the lines to see, or just dont watch his pov.
(If you don’t like reading someone being genuinely upset feel free to scroll past! I wont put it against you I do the same thing man)
The main argument people are making is that Scott treated Avid like SHIT. And yeah! He did! I will not put it against Scott Goldsmith that he is a terrible person, and even at the end in the post Vampires Smp world that he still isn’t NICE, persay, he’s still a jerk i bet, but just not on monsterous levels.
He treated Avid the way he did because Avid was just like every other annoying vampire hunter that Scott had likely met in his past days, tolerated, and eventually killed. He assumed that Avid was just going to be another one of those.
But after Avid became a vampire, he AGREED with Scott that Vampirism was BETTER. Scott’s manipulation tactics are literally telling people that Vampirism is great with all these pros, and he doesn’t expect people to just agree with him, especially straight after being turned.
This is the starting point of Scott starting to appreciate Avid. Because Avid surprises him. He even confesses to Shelby that he can usually read people very well. Even if that said conversation was about Pyro, i have a feeling that Avid had a tendency to surprise him, too.
It wasn’t that Scott loved Avid. That’s up to consumer Interpretation, and honestly? I don’t think he really LOVED him, but he FELT something.
Scott hasn’t felt anything in CENTURIES, and definitely not anything positive. Most his interactions and “friendships” were just hollow, something he could see lasting a few years, maybe a few decades, but that was nothing to him.
Imagine how he feels knowing that his real friends who ARE vampires and CAN live forever stick around?
And Avid, who originally hated Scott, just casually talked to him about anything with no underlying intention or motivation?
And most of all kissed him, kissed Scott who has most likely been touch starved for centuries.
How would YOU feel, being a being that is just a husk who thought that they couldn’t feel at all, feeling something for the first time in an era?
THAT’S why Scott mourned Avid. THAT’S why all he knew what to feel when he was gone was rage. It didn’t come out of no where. Scott even confesses to Shelby that he didn’t think that he loved Avid, he just felt. Because Avid was the first one to make him feel in forever.
Tell me this; People complaining about Scott’s feelings coming out of nowhere, did you watch his pov? Or did you only get the info from Tumblr, while watching someone elses pov? Even if you did watch Scott’s pov, do you even understand his character?
Scott Goldsmith is a cruel and evil character, yes, but he’s not a monster. He’s a husk. A husk of dried up feelings that have been long gone for centuries. When someone experiences something that has never been experienced before by that person, or at least, not in a long time, that can be overwhelming. Of COURSE you’d be quick to latch onto that feeling because you never know when you’re going to feel it again. So when the person that causes that feeling is gone, you have a sense of dread for them. Because they gave you something important. A new feeling.
I try to give a benefit of the doubt, but for this series, all the people shitting on Scott (not just his character, SPECIFICALLY scott which happens! a lot!) for his “flawed character writing” and for “sprouting relations out of nowhere” is actual dogshit. I’m rather quick to getting upset, and every post i see about this just pisses me off, so I had to get this out.
If you don’t agree with me, thats fine. Opinions are okay, but you should understand that yes, this writing DOES come from somewhere, and you cannot shit on the creator for not being able to see through the silver lining.

Scott has taken too much fucking slander and hate for people not seeing through how his characters are actually rather masterfully written. There is an art of writing character who doesn’t present everything on a silver platter for you to take in and indulge. You have to look in between the lines, to see the feelings and thoughts behind a character. Consumer interpretation can be beautiful. And if someone wants to take it at face value, thats okay. Just if you want to take it at face value and then shit on the creator for there not being more, that is entirely on you. YOU need to go past the face value to find more. If YOU want more, then put on your fucking thinking cap and THINK.
Okay i think i will actually explode if i rant more i am not used to doing this but i had to put it out there because i am hella sure my other scottnation peers would do it eventually as well (and rightfully so will still do likely)
