This week’s episode was a damn character assassination for Gaara. I know it follows the manga, but Studio Pierrot fixed Naruto’s reaction, so there’s no reason they couldn’t have given Gaara’s lines to, say, Darui.

For those of you with the willpower to look away from this trainwreck, I will summarize:

Naruto calls the 5 Kage for a skype meeting. He tellls them he has lost Kurama and, in turn, all of his protagonist perks. Furthermore, his son’s body is being overtaken by Momoshiki, and the transformation could happen in a matter of months. Boruto is a ticking time bomb that could turn into a village-destroying monster without warning. (His situation is similar to Naruto and Gaara’s childhoods in that respect. Like Gaara, the poor kid has even been avoiding sleep to prevent himself from losing control.)

So when Gaara learns of Naruto’s dilemma, what does he do? An in-character Gaara would have offered sympathy to his grieving friend. After all, he lost Shukaku himself years before, and Naruto literally saved his life after the ensuing chakra loss. Or if the writers wanted comic relief, they could’ve had Gaara mail Boruto a bunch of insomnia-related books like “HOW TO SNOOZE WITHOUT LOSING BODILY AUTONOMY.”

What did Anime Gaara do instead? He asked Naruto if he was prepared to to kill his son if the transformation occurred. Naruto said he’d handle it if things got to that point. Gaara then doubles down, saying that Naruto would be too weak to stop Momoshiki without Kurama, so he ought to consider handling the threat proactively (ie killing Boruto before he transforms).

First of all, it’s not realistic for one world leader to tell another to kill his son. If Naruto wasn’t the all-loving hero, Gaara’s suggestion would have started a world war.

Second, Gaara is the LAST person who should be making that point. His tragic backstory was his father trying to preemptively assassinate him before Shukaku took over. That betrayal is what turned him bloodthirsty and ultimately give in to Shukaku’s will. And now he’s telling Naruto to do the same thing to Boruto, whose “inhabitant” is arguably much more powerful and volatile than Shukaku was? I know the writers were going for the irony angle, but Gaara recommending filicide completely sabotages his character arc.

Tl;dr: The real Gaara would never have told Naruto to follow in Rasa’s footsteps.

The way I see it, Gaara wasn’t actually recommending filicide. Gaara’s not one to beat around the bush just because people are uncomfortable about talking about something.  But he needed to double down, get into Naruto’s head what was actually at stake.  Because from a practical standpoint, Gaara has a point.  Boruto is a potential danger.  

But no one wants that to have to happen—Kurotsuchi was offended on Gaara’s behalf by the mere mention.  Even if he weren’t Naruto’s son, everyone loves Boruto.  No one wants him dead if they could save him somehow.

Gaara never said, “this is what you should do.” He asks if Naruto is prepared to do it.  And Gaara, who knows Naruto so well, knows that the answer is probably no.  Well, the stakes aren’t going away, so what is Naruto going to do about that?

It’s an impossible situation that isn’t going to be helped by everyone ignoring the realities to save Naruto’s feelings.  I agree that Gaara could have been more tactful, but that’s never really been Gaara’s style, and the way he said it was more impactful.

Look I know everyone’s talking about how Deepa completely destroyed Teem 10 & Team Shinki, but let’s give it up to Shinki for SINGLE-HANDEDLY PROTECTING EVERYONE AND CAUSING DEEPA TO FAIL HIS MISSION...

Also, am I alone in thinking that Shinki seemed to actually pique Deepa’s interest?  After taking the puppet Deepa stares at Shinki in this weird-ass way that makes me REALLY WORRIED FOR MY SAND SON but also kind of excited about what’s next in Shinki’s character arc

And after Shinki destroyed that puppet...THAT LONG SILENCE NEARLY MADE ME PISS MY PANTS. 

I would TOTALLY be up for a Deepa/Shinki rematch but PLEASE let Shinki be okay and PLEASE DON’T MAKE US WAIT ANOTHER 50 EPISODES SP T_T

Shinki was never bothered by the destructive power of his ability, often times it protected him from those who wanted to harm him. But after Gaara adopts him, he realizes his lack of control can hurt the one person he has ever cared about… 

Meanwhile, Gaara is reminded of his own struggles, but he had no one to who believed him and comforted him…refuses to have that with Shinki.

This reminds me a lot of the way Gaara himself reacted when he accidentally hurt Yashamaru.  THE FEELS~~ also why is Gaara SUCH A GOOD DAD

Ik, I'm going to probably get hate for this, but I'll say it: Kankuro is the only sand sib I like, and the more I see Gaara and Temari stans hating on him, the more I hate these 2 characters. So I wanted to thank you, because even if your blog doesn't make me like Gaara and Temari, it makes me hate them a lil less. Anyways, that's all, have a good day. Pls, respect my opinion, to all the Gaara and Temari stans. Yeah, I don't like them, pls don't get mad.

Why would I get mad?  :) As far as I’m concerned, we both fucking LOVE Kankuro and that’s good enough for me.  I’m not out to convert anyone to Gaara-ism LMAO, and I really can’t stand when people hate on other people’s choice of favorite characters.  And while we’re out here airing unpopular opinions, I’ll admit that since Boruto came out, Temari has fallen in my books, mostly due to SP’s poor characterization (in my opinion) of her.  I still like her based on the way she was portrayed in OG and Shippuden though.  I can’t shake my love for Gaara though.  It’s a fucking disease LOL.   But KANKURO! Oh God I’ve liked him since the beginning, but for some reason my love for him grows and grows with each passing minute.  He’s such a funny, honorable guy with a heart of gold.  Sometimes I make him the butt of jokes, but only because I think he’s the only Sand Sib who knows how not to take life 10000% seriously LMAO
