Good US news because I think we all could use some of it:

The "Good Trouble Lives On" protests may not have been as big as the previous "Hands Off" and "No Kings" protests (likely due to heat + being planned on a weekday), but still 1.6k protests were held across the USA with thousands joining in with the peaceful protest.

The Trump administration has been ordered to restore $6.2 million in grant funding to nine LGBTQ+ and HIV-related nonprofits. This is fantastic.

Pittsburgh City Council has passed bills to protect its LGBTQ+ citizens.

I'm not gonna write about this again and again because it can become addicting to complain, and I don't want to rain on the parade of increasingly rare moments of joy buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut

The switch 2 depresses me.

If the console was just expensive, I'd be ecstatic.

If just the games went up just 10 or even 20 dollars and it was standardized, I'd be annoyed but pretty happy overall.

The console is expensive, the games vary wildly in price, the pre-orders are insane, some of the physical games don't come with the games and come with DRM, developers have to clarify that their games are actually on the cartridge, and then there's tariffs, and I might be forgetting something. This easily is the stupidest console launch I've seen since, and there's so much bad surrounding what should've just been a simple hardware transition that I can't keep track of every bad idea they've come up with.

This should be like the PS3 or 3DS or Xbox One where these things should make you see red, and people are tripping over themselves to make sure it's the big toy of the year because we now live in a world where you have to be seen consuming video games.

Spend your money how you want, but understand as bad as this is, if they're rewarded for these awful anti consumer ideas, every console manufacturer and game publisher will look at it like the dam is broke, and they will immediately make it even worse across the board.

For those who have not seen on my other social medias, we were involved in a house fire on the 31st of last year. A grease fire started in the apartment below us and spread to our apartment causing extensive damage to the living room, kitchen, and smoke damage to every other part of the house.

My cat, and one of my roommates cats and pet rats were in the building still during the fire, (smoke was bad enough there was only time to grab one cat, I was out getting the mail when it started) but thankfully all animals were rescued and got vet visits.

Unfortunately we are now in the moving process again, so I will be unable to work on things for a time. We have renters insurance, however due to the damages we might still have to pay for a lot of things, plus the cost of moving to a new apartment, so once we’re more settled in, I am toying with the idea of small emergency commissions (chibi head icons or something akin to that) while I get back to work on my Patreon related things and other bigger commissions to help mitigate the financial impact.

Some people on other social medias have asked if there was anything they could do to help, and currently all I can do is plug my Patreon and commission info. Nothing is expected of course since I will not be able to work on things for a bit, but if you’d like to get a commission set up or would like to support me on Patreon, any help is greatly appreciated, including reblogs.

tips for writing good romance tension

inside jokes— brings the reader into the relationship. create something at the beginning of the story and then bring it up in the middle or at the end. reader catches it at the exact moment the couple does, making the moment more rewarding for the characters and reader all at once

specific attention paid to the same detail scene over scene— pick one or two details that the pov character notices (a physical detail on their partner, something about their hair or their body, the way a piece of clothing looks on them, the way sunlight/moonlight/candlelight falls on their face) and bring the detail up several times, characters in love will notice specific things and keep coming back to them, this repetition will get the reader to think, “yes, i get it too”

focus on visible signs of emotion from both parties— a racing pulse, a flush creeping up someone’s neck, a smile, a bouncing knee, a shiver, either from the pov character or the partner, love makes you crazy and visible emotion noticed by one or both parties builds the crazy and crazy tension

at least one sensory detail that comes up during a critical moment— a smell, a feeling, warmth, light, pick something sensory and bring it up again just before a kiss or a moment of closeness, calling back to an earlier scene, bring the reader into the relationship by making them also remember how this started and how they got here, involve them in the chase and the reward

I don't think it's necessarily plastic to learn how to fake laugh at bad or corny jokes I think it's legitimately a skill worth developing to make life a little nicer at work like last night my older coworkers were all doing the "Alright see you guys next year!" joke and I don't want the last thing they saw that year to be someone rolling their eyes

Yeah, sometimes it's just the right thing to do to exchange an attempt at simple connection with a positive response. It's less about the joke itself and more performing simple niceties and being able to just get along with people you work with even if its not sincerely funny or gonna make you best friends is just good etiquette, really.
