i want to double down on darkrai for competitive reasons which is: darkrai has the signature move dark void, which was a spread sleep move with 80% accuracy. which is Really Really good in doubles formats for obvious reasons. however, darkrai has never been legal in official competitive formats, which is where this gets interesting. Basically, because smeargle can effectively learn Every Move, doubles players taught it dark void. it became such a problem that gamefreak actually stepped in and 1. nerfed the move to 50% accuracy, which immediately made it totally dogshit and 2. stopped allowing smeargle to learn it entirely. So. darkrai was punished outright for the actions of a completely separate pokemon

Buneary and Lopunny, treated as inherently sexual simply for existing. Buneary is the only pokemon I know of that is so wary of anyone who catches/interacts with them that it has 0 base friendship when caught likely due to previous bad experiences with folks treating them as inherently sexual.
