This is a compilation of all of my thoughts on Bot more than anything else. This will probably get Reblogged after the episode comes out. I'm scared. OH NO WHATS ABOUT TO-
The predecessors (YES MULTIPLE.)
Before we can talk about Bot, we have to talk about the infamous ways they were brought into this world. And even before that, we have to talk about what came before.
Fan's relationship to the egg is one of his driving things in season two. As early as episode 5 he's already thinking about them enough to try reviving bow so the egg can grow up in a world with bow. Maybe even more notable than the egg is his friendship with test tube!
(Note 1: I will be calling it a friendship, with how many times people have asked AE if it's cannon and they've basically said "kinda" it feels weird to just call them dating here.)
Test Tube and Fan's meeting says a lot about their dynamic. They're two very socially awkward people, who come together to do great things and have someone to relate to. Through season 2, we see them grow their trust in each other, a main marker of that being Fan asking Test Tube to watch the egg during episode 10.
A lot of people are CONVINCED these two are perfect and healthy, but there are definitely still some issues between the two. Test tube in season 2 does try to make more friends, like lightbulb and baseball. Fan's inability to do this, whether you blame him or not, does end up making him more reliant on test tube. We can see this more present in season 4, with the small bit we've gotten. The thing is, Test Tube just isn't like that with Fan anymore.
[II4 fan covering lightbulb thingy and a small text thing abt it.]
By the end of their run in season two, they give the shimmers Egg, the same thing both of them cared for greatly, and leave the show together.
A not so normal creation
We get a clear explanation in season 3 episode 8 for why Bot was created, Bow's death was a tragedy to Fan and Test Tube, so they wanted to make another Bow, especially with the egg, it felt good to have them! This is the idea most people have, But I can't fully accept this answer, it just doesn't feel right. Why would Test Tube care about Bow?? She says FAN was the one that didn't accept Bow's death, not her.
So, here's the explanation I have:
To fan, Bows death was a tragedy. Test tube wanted to help with this, so she used her "technical abilities" to create Bot. Fan helped Test Tube program them with his knowledge of the game. They both had underlying reasons for creating Bot, the Egg. Test Tube kinda knew it was a "replacement" for them too, but for Fan it was much more in his subconscious.
This explanation gives an in universe reason for Fan to never mention Bot in the season 2 movie, until it was a more "II Fan" moment. Test Tube mentions them not being in the void, unlike Fan, who considers them like any other contestant. Of course, I know WHY this is, the writers didn't want "spoilers" for season 3 by showing Bot or saying their name, but it had to have been a choice for Fan not to have them higher in his priorities.
What I'm trying to say is, Fan did not see Bot as his "kid" as much as Test Tube did. Fan thought of them as a replacement for Bow, Test Tube thought of them as a replacement for the Egg, to put it simply.
YAY I CAN TALK ABOUT BOT NOW!
1: Symbolism theory
Symbolism theory is my lil theory about Bot's bandage in season 4. I believe it represents them trying to hold onto their mask, similar to the hat in season 3. In season 3, that hat is used as a last effort to hide that they're a Robot, or at least that they know that. By association, the hat also represents them trying to be bow, one of the two things they were made for. So, we have two instances of bot covering that side of their face, and we have two things that they were supposed to be... so...
In season 4, Bots bandage represents Bot trying to be Fan and Test Tube's something to care for. There are many things here that directly connect back to this idea and reinforce it, but they need their own sections.
2: backtracking
This is mostly about a tendency I've noticed they have. Whenever they do something true to themselves, they backtrack. When they're given the opportunity to join the game by fan, they tell him they feel wrong doing it without Mephone. Immediately after that, they say they would be happy to help, despite saying in their elimination that they wouldn't want the role of cohosting. Later, in episode 4 Bot tries to tell fan that they can go get Poppy by themselves, Fan grabbing their leg to prevent them from leaving. When they're given pull it away from him, they have this face. (the one at the start of the section.) then, after being honest, they backtrack and tell fan to bring backup if they're not back in 5 minutes. They even do this in season 3! In episode 13 when Nickel and Balloon repaint them, their first reaction is asking if it's too much. This is them backtracking again after expressing their true self.
3: Parents??
Now, how does Bot feel about their creation? Weird, maybe, because it's an interesting situation, but not bad, right? An extension of how they feel about their creation, is how they feel about fan and Test Tube. They seem to have a good relationship with them in season 4, so it can't be too bad, right?
I would now like to mention Bot's exit interview. It has a TON in it that I find very very interesting, but I'd like to focus on one part. When asked if they're scared about introducing themselves to fan, they talk about how they wish it didn't have to be such a big deal. They then say, "But they did this to me," before trying to blame it on N / A. Once they try to explain themselves they say "I honestly do feel weird sometimes about how I was made, what test tube and fan were thinking would come out of it. They wanted me to be someone else, but I'm my own person. So as long as they don't make it an uphill climb for me to prove that then we can be on even footing."
Even footing is a very specific wording, through this explanation they never say they like the situation with Fan and Test Tube, mostly using neutral wording. I do think how they elaborated was also them going back, but not too much. From what they say at first, I do think they have a slight resentment for Fan and Test Tube that they don't want to have.
4: similarities to the egg
In episode 14 and episode 4, fan gets hurt trying to protect his "kid" from someone who he thinks is Cobs, though said "Kid" really just needed him to let go. (Images above.) this makes it VERY clear that Test Tube and especially Fan are treating them like they would treat the egg. Which is overprotective.
I mention Fan as overprotective here because Bot of everyone has the most experience of not being able to be revived, and they try to make it clear they can handle it themselves.
5: Mephone 4
In season 3, Bot is heavily implied to be Mephone's favorite contestant. With the things we know now about the contestants, that has some extra things it says. First, Bot is the only contestant Mephone didn't create. I think it was an intentional choice to have that implication. Mephone tried to get "good" contestants for the show, and the ONE person he didn't project onto ends up being his favorite and the one who thought the highest of him. Of course, Cammy does think highly of Mephone, but not in a way that respects his humanity, more in the way that springy thinks highly of Bot in season 3.
In Bot's conversation with Bow in episode 5, they mention why they don't know why mephone was sent away when they just made another game. Of course, there's a LOT more to what happened than that, but even if he wasn't necessarily sent away, everyone pretty much agrees him leaving was for the better. The reasons for that include the game, but mostly how he made the contestants. Now, Bot, as stated earlier, feels like they have to hide how they feel about their creation, a VERY similar situation to how the contestant were made, it makes sense they wouldn't think about that. If anything they'd think (mostly subconsciously) that "I had to have the same thing and just live with it, so why would it be different with them?" Even in their situation, their creator hid it from them for a long time despite being told she would have to tell them at some point. Of course I get WHY Test Tube did this, but it wasn't great.
This has been everything I've ever said about Bot! They are my favorite character as you can see, now let's see how this lines up with episode 6!!
(Please do not comment any spoilers for episode 6 until it's released on YouTube. Go crazy after.)
