An open letter to the guy who should not be in any relationship
I'm sorry you grew up rich.
I'm sorry you do not know how it feels like to finally be able to buy things not just because you really need them or because it is Christmas.
You will never be that kid who lies in bed wishing they were an adult with a good job so she can tell her dad to come home and not work far away.
You will never read long letter from your dad because your parents could afford phones.
You probably hated the rain growing up because you cannot ride your bike with your friends outside and not because your house is flooding from all the leaks from the roof.
I bet you were not embarrassed to bring your classmates to your house because they will never ask you why your house is small or have no ceiling or why you have no cable or landline or computer.
Whilst your childhood was about birthday cakes, and toys, and the latest game technology, and presents on every occasion, mine was about doing chores at home, taking care of my cousins, and being the perfect role model to everyone.
Your 20s was about travelling and drinking and gambling and just enjoying yourself. My 20s started in finding a good paying job so I can financially support my dying mother who, by the way, I resented my whole lie.
Whilst all your salary was going to your pubs and casinos and airlines, mine was going to hospitals and utility companies.
Those pairs of shoes that youâre telling me I have way too many and I do not wear? Those are the fruit of my labour. I worked hard to buy those shoes. I worked hard so that I can finally buy nice things on ordinary days. I do not have to wait for Christmas to buy a new outfit. I do not have to save up what little allowance I had to buy myself a cake and present on my birthdays.
More than the frustration, I actually feel sorry for you. I feel sorry that you cannot appreciate the little things. I feel sorry for you because you will never know the magical feeling of finally spoiling that little kid in you. You will never know how happy and proud that little kid in you is for finally crossing off so many things from her innocent little list. Things that a child of your background takes for granted.
