So in the midst of all the danger and chaos and supernatural craziness, in the middle of searching for his lost friend, confronting bullies and running away from the Bad Men, we find out that Mike has been thinking about and planning a future with Eleven, someone he’s known for all of one week. A future where he embraces her fully into his family and his home, takes care of her, gives her everything she’s missed out on (he just basically wants to make her happy okay?). A future where she figures prominently and permanently in his life. Not to mention the very specific future plan of going to the Snow Ball with her, when you know he’s probably never had any use for school dances in the past – and especially now when it should literally be the last thing on his mind. But the desire to spend time with her and be close to her is that intense and strong and overwhelming. Forget “like”. This kid is so in love it’s not even funny.

The thing that makes the "don't touch her" moment even more buzzy is what leads up to this moment from when they're caught by the military.

He fully stands in front of her to block her and even turns to either make sure she's behind him or to form a plan (probably both)

Once they exit the truck, Nancy and Holly are separated and Jonathan is already held against the truck with a gun pointed at his back and to his head.

Despite the terrifying danger to himself, he is locked in on making sure she is okay. She is his sole focus here.

And then once she is in danger...

I feel like a lot of people don't realize Mike is like that because of trauma and anger issues and it gets worse as the seasons go on. He and Max are a lot alike but people give Mike more grief about it because they are obessesed with El.

Why is it so hard for people to understand they are basically the same character just different genders?

I love it when characters have some kind of weird bond between them. Psychic bonds, telepathic links, empathy links, soul bonds, and whatever else. What if you were always aware of the people you loved? What if you could feel their presence in a way beyond the five senses? What if they could never fully hide themselves from you? What if you could never fully hide yourself from them?
