What’s with the heathcliff and calling him a dog stuff?

oh god okay. so basically heathcliff (being based on the guy from wuthering heights) is compared to a dog by his abusers constantly as a way to dehumanize him and whatnot and i would say that the text of the game makes it pretty explicitly clear that this is Bad. it gets to the point that when they return to his old home during his chapter, a bunch of bad stuff happens to him, including the death of the one person he truly loved, that causes him to have a mental breakdown and he distorts (this is complicated to explain, basically a stress induced transformation into a form that reflects your deepest thoughts and feelings about yourself.) when heathcliff distorts he turns into a wolf adjacent creature because of the abuse he faced as a kid resurfacing. pretty straightforwardly Not how he would prefer to be seen by others, you'd think? a pretty clear reflection of his internalized self-hatred? like i cant really stress enough that this isn't me reading into that at all, it is literally a representation of all this stuff.

unfortunately . there was a definite subset of people that jumped all over the dog thing being like omggg its his fursona lets all draw him as a dog and ignore both His Entire Character Arc In The Game and also the actual connotations of calling a person of color a dog.
