What have I got myself into…
Izaya held a sigh when heard her talking. As soon as he saw the “map” on her hand, wanted to say something— But the girl talked so much in so little time that his only option was to keep quiet, waiting for a pause. Air conditioners? Slums? Spiders? Good thing they were living in different areas. Not just because he liked peaceful nights, but from her words living on the slums seemed terrible. When the words came to mutters, the raven looked aside, hands grabbing his own map to hand it to the girl.
"I just got here, so I don’t have any money with me" or at least not enough to share. Man, how weird it felt to not have it. "How about I give you my map in exchange? I already memorized most part of things written here, so I don’t need it. I think you’ll use it better than me." But he needed a pause about something else "Cookies?"
No, wait. Why was he asking about that?
> } "No, no! You've got lots of money! Everyone gets uhm, a good amount of money when they get here! Like, didn't that weird guy at the hospital tell you? You get a card with a special code on it, and it's equipped with credits or something like that. It's the currency here, I think." She nodded as she spoke, to help get the message across. "So, you've got a pretty good amount of money on you, my friend. But... I guess I'll take your map yeah, but I'll probably just lose that one again... I don't really know, I don't necessarily need a map, I mean I've gotten lost so many times here, but its all been kind of purposeful. I mean, getting lost is a really good way to help you learn your way around and its really quite exciting! Especially in the slums, its icky there but boy does a lot of interesting stuff go down..." She blinked and shook her head. "Oh fuck I'm rambling again aren't I? My bad my bad!"
"I'll stop now." Nice waved a dismissive hand and laughed, as she didn't feel like pushing buttons with this guy. "I'll take the map, I was kidding about the money anyway. I'm always willing to help someone in need! And yeah, cookies. Um, there aren't many good sweet shops around here, but I got some cookies earlier. I'm thinking I'll open up my own shop though, when I get around to it--which will be soon. So far I've had a good amount of time on my hands." She grabbed ahold of the map, giving it a once over before folding it neatly and sliding it in her pocket.

"Wwait- Karkat?" There was no way Eridan could have misheard her, but that couldn’t be right. He wasn’t sure if he wanted it to be right— if Karkat was really here there was a good chance he was still pissed at Eridan. Hell, Eridan was still kind of pissed at himself, and he’d gotten to six sweeps refusing to ever admit he’d fucked up. “Loud little nubby bastard?”
He couldn’t help but roll his eyes as Nice continued. He’d never been very good at masking his feelings. Besides, he’d had plenty of people he liked a lot more than he did Nice tell him he was a moody sack of shit with a stupid accent. “Fuckin’ excuse me for bein’ a little pissed at bein’ in some bullshit mysteryland abduction city.” He crossed his arms. “An’ screww you, there ain’t anythin’ up wwith howw I speak.”
Ordinarily Eridan wouldn’t have given a lick of consideration for the warning; he was a highblood and he’d speak how he liked unless a tyrianblood took offense. Wasn’t like some human could come close to posing a threat to him. Except he didn’t have the Crosshairs. He didn’t even have a bullshit fakey fake kiddy wand. He sighed, deeply, barely even bothering to glower at her for getting in his personal space again. “Fine." He was definitely going to make somebody pay for this.
He gestured vaguely at his map. “This is completely useless is wwhat I need help wwith. Pain in the—” No swearing. Right. This wasn’t going to get irritating at all. “—neck.”
> } Picking up on the eye roll, Nice suppressed a little laugh and waved her hand dismissively. She always loved striking people's nerves.
"Yeah, loud lil' nubby horned guy. He was pretty cute, might I add!" She nodded and stuffed her hands in her pockets, feeling around for some lose wrappers. "Well, you don't have an accent remotely similar to your friend Karkat, and I was assuming you were both from the same place. Why do you talk differently from him? Do all aliens speak different from one another? Do you learn words differently or something?"
In all honesty, Nice was a little surprised with herself that she got the purple guy to give into the "no cussing" thing. Of course, she was a top notch liar, but the rule was just too silly she couldn't believe anyone would take it seriously. Whatever, though, she'd just roll with it.
"Yeah, don't tell anyone I told you this, now I'm trustin' you a lot here... But there's correctional facilities ALL over the place. I don't know what they do to people there, but I heard through the grape vine that it's pretty scary. They're really strict on mannerism here, I don't really know why though. I think you could even get in trouble for being acquainted with someone known for bad manners or whatever." She shrugged. "That won't be a problem for us though, right?"
"The map is pretty useless, I'll admit. I'm a hands on gal, so I learn my best by throwing myself into the middle of whatever's going on! Would you rather I give you a tour of the place? Or is there something you're looking for in particular? I can take you to it, or at least help you find it!"
Sorry guys! My power is out and is liable to be out for the next week due to a nasty storm so replies will be slow!

Some help these assholes were. Though Eridan hadn’t really expected much; he was a pessimist at heart and the only humans he had experience with were both complete jackasses. He was about to give up and just try and find his own way around again when he heard the shout, shooting the girl a suspicious look.
He just barely bit back a sigh as she skipped over. Rude, maybe, but some cheerful bastard was the absolute last thing he needed with this headache. “I wwas hardly fuckin’ shoutin’.” He snapped. Well, not in his opinion, at least, but with friends like Karkat and Terezi it was hard to tell. He hissed under his breath as she patted his shoulder, taking a hasty step backwards. People in his personal space wasn’t exactly one of his favourite things. Still, she was offering to help him, and as much as it hurt his pride to admit, he needed help.
"…Eridan." What the fuck kind of name was Nice? Humans were weird. "An’ I could probably do wwith some, yeah."
> } Picking up on the sigh, Nice tilted her head. "So maybe Karkat was lying, 'cos all you trolls seem pretty cranky to me." Resisting the urge to pinch his cheek, she gave a very light hearted laugh. "Whatever, though. What's up with your 'w's? Is that something to do with your race? Well--no matter. I'm friends with Karkat, though don't ask him about it. I don't think he'd admit it." Nice knew very well Karkat probably most definitely despised the cheery ground she walked on, but whatever. It'd get her an okay start with Eridan or whatever. That's what she needed. Besides, she was beginning to think that it was time to have some fun, and with that in mind, her face became a bit more serious.
"As a good person, though, it's my job to point out something really important! I don't want any new friends getting in trouble here, so you might want to watch out for your language! The government here doesn't take that stuff lightly, and you can get into some serious trouble for it." She looked around carefully before tipping over, covering her mouth, and whispering in his ear. "They're not nice people, and they're always watching. They don't have any cruelty laws either." Nice lied and she was convincing enough and Eridan was so frustrated he'd probably believe her and stop with the cussing. Frustrated people are so funny when they can't cuss. Its not like such a simple, fun lie would spark up any trouble.
"Now, what do you need help with?"
Karkat sighed. He wasn’t the least bit surprised that she hadn’t been listening. He nodded and stopped leaning against the alley wall.
"WELL, I GUESS THAT’S IT THEN."
He turned and began to walk away.
"SEE YOU."
> } Biting back the temptation to stop him, Nice looked around then watched him off. Dinner plans were fogging her mind and for now, she'd gotten all she had wanted from him. By now, it was most definitely best to let him go; as she knew she could make some better allies (though of course she'd be keeping an eye out for her little friend) and he was already more cranky than necessary.
She combed her hands through her hair and smiled, collecting the plastic garbage from the cookies they had and stuffing it in her backpack.
I can't wait to bug him again later.
This isn't a Witch's House, You Know || Open
{Ⅰ} — Only after her head stopped spinning could Viola even begin to fathom where she had ended up. One moment she was lying on the path outside that dreaded house, at the very edge of life with nothing but blood flooding her vision, and the next given minute the only pain she felt was an emotional stinging; she felt fine physically, at least, unless the light—but still insistent—pounding of where those two bullets had pierced through her counted, though they weren’t as painful as they were mentally scarring. She was only 13 years of age, anyway, but she had suffered through many events far too horrific for anyone, regardless of age.
But at the moment, that wasn’t at the top of her list of concerns. Where was she? Not the same woods she and her father had lived in, that was for sure. Not by that same mansion where she had lost even her own identity. It was definitely safe to say Viola had never seen such a place like this.
Noticing at that moment that she no longer felt the slimy, slightly sticky skin of her loyal pet frog in her hand as she descended her fingers into her lower pocket, Viola was surprised when her grip closed across soft fabric, slightly rough stitches making themselves known under her thumb.
'A plush..?'
Gripping the object carefully, she withdrew it from her pocket. And yes, indeed, her amphibian friend had been replaced with a lifeless, unbreathing toy. Granted, a cute toy. Viola was sure she could make do with it; she needed a plush to sleep with, anyway.
Placing the frog back into her pocket, her fingertips brushed slightly against a sheet of paper in the same pocket. The letter from her father.
She dearly missed her father, and just the thought of reading those words he had lovingly wrote on the page was enough to draw a few tears from the girl.
But she hastily wiped them away, and focused completely on the task of finding out where she was. Spotting a figure in the distance, she hurriedly made her way over to them, golden braids swinging at her sides.
"Excuse me?"
Viola’s voice was timid, almost fearful as she approached the person. She didn’t know what kind of individual they were, anyway. In fact, they might be a body-switching, backstabbing witch for all she knew.
> } Nice stuck her hands above her eyes--and in blocking out the sunlight and squinting her eyes, she could make out a teeny looking figure in the distance. Bingo! She whispered to herself before making a move.
The figure, she determined as she drew close, was a girl who appeared to be quite younger, a cute young lady at that. Nice was bubbling with excitement at the site of a nervous girl in thick blonde pigtails and she jumped up, clasping her hands together before skipping over.
"Ohhhh, oh oh! Helllooo there!" Nice shouted enthusiastically. Hastily, she took hold of the girls hand and gave it a rough shake, and with a friendly smile, Nice looked the other up and down. "Are you okay? Gosh, you're not lost, are you?" Nice pulled her hands away abruptly then rubbed her temples, pursing her lips. "Lemme guess here..." She squinted in thought, just for added dramatic effect. "You must be new! In which case, you're in luck, as I'm relatively new here too! But not too new that I don't know the ropes, and I'd love to help you out!" The genuine, heart warming smile returned to her face and she got up on her toes. "Do you know what area you are stationed in? Like, where is your apartment? If you need, I can help you find it!"
Completely Hopeless||intro
Even counting the fact that he’d died at the hands of a vengeful rainbow drinker, Eridan was more than willing to call this the most fucked up thing that had happened to him. How it had happened was a question he really didn’t feel like asking, especially not with his head aching like it did.
But, whatever. Alive was alive and whatever this city was, it had to be better than the meteor. Or the dreambubbles. It was just a shame he felt so horribly underdressed without the Crosshairs. He’d had the rifle for sweeps, and before that had had various less powerful rifles since he was old enough to choose a strife specibi. The “replacement” he’d been given was nothing less than an upright fuckin’ insult, and somebody was going to pay for it. Later. Right now he had more important things to deal with.
He’d managed to get himself lost. Hardly his fault, in his opinion; the map he’d been given was complete BS and it wasn’t like he was in the best position to be trying to understand even the best made map. The only thing to do was to swallow his pride and ask for help. At least there were plenty of people around to ask.
"Hey, you. This map’s fuckin’ useless horseshit an’ you’re goin’ a help me." Wait, that was rude. "Please?" Much better.
By this point, Nice was on the hunt for two things in particular : other newbies and easy targets--and somehow, she had hit the jackpot with the influx of new citizens with apparent temper problems. However, she had really struck home with another seemingly angry grey guy. In his obvious frustration, she'd hopefully be able to squeeze out some info on aliens that her last horned friend might've left out.
"Oh! You there, sir!" After she gave him a good stare down, Nice cupped her mouth and hollered, waving at the guy for his attention. She skipped over to him. "What's with all the shouting, pal? Are you lost or something?" She gleefully patted his shoulder his cheek and laughed. "My name is Nice! Do you need help?"
#001 [INTRO] welcome to the slums.
one moment after she shows up at the city she notices that it’s different than the cities she has seen before. her head still hurts, for what reason ever. ❝tch…❞, she hisses, scanning the environment with her blue, gearshaped eyes. yes, very different.
what’s her business, why is she here? too many questions to be answered, and maybe if she’d encounter someone- not mattering who-, she’d be more smarter. —— ❝oi !!❞, she shouts at someone, who just might take a walk around the city, ❝move yer ass here! i’ve got some questions !!❞
> } Nice was lost yet again but unperturbed. She'd already figured the city had a weird way of working, and map or not, she'd find her way home with ease one way or another. Losing yourself, she thought, was the best way to learn the ropes. Besides, big, scary cities were most fun when danger was most imminent--It was especially exciting when you got mixed up in a shady ice cream store shootout and escaped with nothing but the pink polkadot book bag on your back, shaky legs, and a scoop of strawberry ice cream.
And with said dripping ice cream cone in hand, Nice stared at some angry young gal who Nice could assume was new.
"Oh oh oh!! Hello, hello! Hey there!" Nice gave her most welcoming smile and sprang forward, greeting the girl. "My name is Nice and it's very nice to meet you! Do you need help with something?" She grabbed the other girls hand and gave it an enthusiastic shake. "Welcome to... Farrago City! At least, I think Farrago is the name of this place... Right? Whatever! Are you new here?"
{ X }—; ”I’m not exactly sure what type of business he ran. All I know about it was the fact that I could not interfere with his work when I was home on the holidays. He could be in the German mafia for all I know…” It was true that even to this day, she never knew what her father did. She had left home as soon as she turned eighteen to go to college. Her father never really paid much attention to her unless she scored well or successfully completed something. And as for her mother…her mother wasn’t really apart of her family.
Jessica let out a small sigh as she looked down at the ground. Maybe that’s why people at the government building called her a “loner since the day she came out of her mother’s womb.” She never once had relied on her parents so much like others did, or had that paternal/maternal relationship those TV shows had.
”Oh yes…I suppose the bar can be fun,” she let out a small laugh as she looked back up—changing her expression as fast as she walked. ”I don’t approve of the foul profanity they use, but most men there are interesting to speak to.” Women drank too, but she wasn’t interested in them. She didn’t care about their “boyfriend who left them” or “best friend’s ugly purse.” She wanted to hear about the rumors and the gossip about the government, about her subject she’s questioning, or anything but trash-talk.
”I believe there’s a sweets store,” Agent Y pauses before continuing, ”Nearby FarragoNet—the internet cafe. It’s fairly new and I can say that I do not guarantee that you won’t be sitting on the toilet after eating some of their delectable candies.”
> } "The German Mafia?" Nice blinked at her then smiled, shifting her weight and placing her hands on her hips. "Never heard of it! Whatever it was though, I'm sure it was very important and necessary to keep your family happy, healthy, and safe!" Though familiar with family terms (only due to a small book she stole/found near her apartment located in her old home full with information of the world outside of her old secluded city), Nice, like other children, never had family connections. However, she was one of the few people who knew family connections even existed in the first place. Children were born, tested, and later on, they disappeared in the early to mid twenties range. Nice liked to assume that they were returned to their parents whoever they may be--she was also beginning to assume that this new city was where they disappeared to. Or that maybe the new city was the next level of the game, except she wasn't quite certain she even defeated the first level. Well, whatever it was, Nice already made up her mind that she'd win and save everyone she could.
"Foul profanity? Don't even talk to me about profanity! I thought it was dreadful at home, but boy I ran into a shouty little grey man earlier and he was just full of it!" Looking down at the ground, she covered her mouth and laughed. "He was a cute lil guy too. But at my home, bad language is everywhere. Its gotten me into the habit occasionally, but my home is a cussing free zone!" She shook her head slowly before meeting Jessica's eyes again.
"Farrago! This place is called... Farrago? Good, good. I forgot the name for a while; and I've never heard of FarragoNet! But... Perhaps I'll skip out on their candies... How depressing! I guess I can just start up my own sweets shop..." She trailed off, putting a hand to her chin and furrowing her eyebrows in a stereotypical 'thinking position'. "How would I got about doing something like that, though? Do you know?"
Karkat sighed.
I guess I could answer a few more questions.
(x)
"YEAH WE EAT FOOD AND DRINK WATER AND WE NEED HOMES AND ACCEPTANCE AND SHIT SO I GUESS WE HAVE THE SAME BASIC NEEDS FOR SURVIVAL, EXCEPT THE ADDED FORCED ROMANCE OTHERWISE WE’RE CULLED ON THE SPOT.
TROLLS HAVE HORRIBLE NIGHTTERRORS CAUSED BY OUR SUB CONSCIENCES OR SOMETHING AND SOPOR SLIME ACTS AS A SEDATING AGENT THAT BLOCKS THE BLOODY VISIONS AND HELPS US SLEEP. IF WE DIDN’T GET SUCH HORRIBLE NIGHTMARES, WE’D SLEEP IN BEDS LIKE YOU HUMANS DO I GUESS. BUT AFTER PLAYING THAT GAME FOR 600 HOURS WITHOUT THE SLIME, I’VE GOTTEN USED TO THE NIGHTMARES.. OR MAYBE THEY JUST STOPPED EXISTING? WE VISIT DREAM BUBBLES NOW, BUT EVER SINCE I’VE BEEN BROUGHT HERE ALL OF MY NIGHTS HAVE BEEN DREAMLESS.
GAMZEE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE FUCK HE WAS DOING AND I DON’T HAVE TO FORGIVE HIM FOR RUINING EVERYTHING.
AND IN SGRUB, THERE WERE DIFFERENT CLASSES AND ASPECTS. EACH TROLL GOT A DIFFERENT CLASS AND ASPECT, AND THESE TITLES GAVE CERTAIN POWERS. I NEVER REACHED GOD TIER SO I DON’T KNOW WHAT MY POWERS WOULD’VE BEEN. ARADIA WAS THE MAID OF TIME AND SHE COULD JUMP THROUGH TIME MAKING CLONES OF HERSELF. ANOTHER ONE OF THE PLAYERS NAMED VRISKA, WHO’S DEAD NOW, WAS A THIEF OF LIGHT AND SHE COULD STEAL LUCK. THEY WERE THE ONLY TWO TO REACH GOD TIER FROM OUR GAME, BUT THE HUMANS WE MET ALL REACHED GOD TIER. JOHN WAS A HEIR OF BREATH AND HE COULD CONTROL THE WIND AND ALSO TURN INTO WIND. DAVE WAS A KNIGHT OF TIME AND COULD DO BASICALLY THE SAME AS ARADIA. ROSE WAS A SEER OF LIGHT AND COULD SEE THE PATHS THEY NEEDED TO TAKE IN ORDER TO STAY IN THE ALPHA TIMELINE, AND JADE WAS A WITCH OF SPACE AND COULD CONTROL DIMENSIONS AND STUFF. SHE ACTUALLY MADE ALL OF HER SESSION’S PLANETS REALLY SMALL IN ORDER TO BRING THEM INTO THE OTHER HUMAN SESSION. AND I DIDN’T GET TO SEE ENOUGH OF THE OTHER HUMAN SESSION TO BE ABLE TO TELL THEIR POWERS EXCEPT FOR JANE, WHO FUCKING KILLED ME AND BROUGHT ME BACK TO LIFE. FROM HER OUTFIT, IT LOOKED LIKE SHE WAS A MAID OF LIFE BUT THE COLORS WERE ALL FUCKED UP.”
Karkat thought for a minute. He hadn’t really gone out much since coming here so he didn’t really know about anything fun to do. He did remember the conversation he had had with Amelia though.
"APPARENTLY THERE’S A LOT OF STUFF TO DO IN THE SHOPPING DISTRICT, ALTHOUGH I HAVEN’T GONE THERE YET."
"Eat food; drink water..." Nice trailed off and nodded. She hadn't eaten much or drank much for that matter since she arrived, and she was quite surprised she hadn't drawn that conclusion earlier. Without paying much attention to Karkat (she could hear faintly the words "nighterrors and sedatives, which would be enough for her to make her own judgement on sopor slime or whatever it was) she paused to think about her dinner options. It was hot out, so cold food would be preferable.
Then her mind started to drift at the sound of several key words and with it her mouth opened. "Classes and aspects? Oh! Classes! Did you go to school? Oh man, I miss school... I had a lot of fun classes. What kind of classes did you have? Oh oh!" Nice stopped for a moment and bounced. "Or did you mean classes like categories? Categories for what now? Did you guys get elements? Or classes like... Social hierarchy again? I'm sorry I spaced out! Well--you don't have to explain again though." She scratched the back of her head and snickered. "My bad!"
"The shopping district? Well, I'll head there next then! Perhaps I'll find something super interesting!"
♦ Experiment | Intro
Hearing the voice come from behind him, the man turned to be faced with a brunette girl, hair tied into pig tails. She didn’t seem to be someone who stood out in the crowd, but compared to all the other people who turned away from him at that moment, she was more than enough. This, if she wasn’t also new here. Where was his luck today? Probably stuck on the city he left.
She seemed excited to join him, then why not? The man tilted his head to the side, a smile rising his lips. She seemed to know good places, and the more knowledge he had about that place, the better. Didn’t matter from who it came from.
What surprised him, though, was her name. Nice? Like… Nice? Really? That was completely different from anything he heard before. Not that he was the right person to comment about people’s names… Well… Nobody chooses their own name, so…
But was that really her real name?
"Ah, it’s nice to meet you. I’m Nakura." Nah, why give his real name? Mainly in a completely unknown place. "We could use my map to find our places together. I’m not so good with them, to be honest. And I would love to know these places you’re talking about."
"Naaakkuurra!" She took his hand and shook it with just a bit too much enthusiasm. "I'll remember that for sure!"
Nice fished out her homemade map and squinted. In looking over it for a second time she realized, sadly, that it was a complete useless piece of shit decorated in red scribbles. She shrugged and laughed at it, figuring she'd just decode it later as she stuffed it in her back pocket. "Yes, yes! Let me see your map, that'd be great! But..." She paused a moment to fan herself off. "Ahh, I'm burning up! Isn't there a shop nearby with an AC? Or... Wait! Are we in the slums? I guess the slums don't have ACs?" She flipped around to take in her surroundings and determine where she was. "We're in the... Wait. I don't know the difference between the slums and the commoners area. Well I guess the commoners area is nicer? Well no this place still looks kind of crummy... I forgot to look into this..." Nice trailed off for a moment muttering to herself about how the slums were kind of really shady, how she woke up with spiders on her, and how she'd already met some new--albeit also shady--friends before snapping herself out of it. Usually she wouldn't have been that much of a ditz, but carrying spiders out of her apartment all night had taken up quite a lot of sleeping time.
"Oh yeah! The cool places I know of!!" She clasped her hands together and got on her toes. "What do you have for me? In return and stuff? I mean, I've spent a lot of money on cookies and decorations, so I'm in need." Nice scratched the back of her head, obviously still slightly preoccupied with determining whether there was a nearby store with an AC.
Karkat perked up a bit at the mention that her questions were over. Finally.
"I DON’T KNOW WHAT MY HORNS ARE MADE OF PROBABLY CARTILAGE OR SOMETHING. AND A RECOOPERACOON IS SOMETHING TROLLS SLEEP IN. IT’S FILLED WITH SOPOR SLIME TO KEEP TROLLS FROM HAVING THE HORRIBLE NIGHTMARES THAT ALL TROLLS HAVE. AND I MEAN I *GUESS* WE’RE LIKE EARTH BUGS BUT A LOT COOLER AND MORE BADASS.
GAMZEE *WAS* MY MOIRAIL. PAST TENSE. AND EITHER WAY HE SORTA FORCED IT TO HAPPEN IN THE FIRST PLACE BY CALLING ME HIS BEST FRIEND AND NEVER LEAVING ME THE FUCK ALONE. AFTER HE KILLED TWO OF MY FRIENDS AND ATTEMPTED TO KILL TEREZI, HE DIDN’T REALLY FIT THE ROLE ANYMORE. WE’RE VIOLENT BUT NOT BEYOND REASON. WE STILL HAVE FRIENDS AND KNOW WHEN TO NOT MURDER OTHER FRIENDS IN COLD BLOOD LIKE A RAVING MURDEROUS BACKSTABBING DOUCHE BAG.
NO YOUR WORLD ISN’T A VIDEO GAME. IT WAS CREATED *BY* A VIDEO GAME BUT IT EXISTS OUTSIDE OF IT. AND MY UNIVERSE WAS ALSO CREATED BY A VIDEO GAME; PROBABLY ONE WITH TWENTY FOUR PLAYERS SINCE WE HAVE TWENTY FOUR CONSTELLATIONS WHILE YOU GUYS HAVE TWELVE, ONE FOR EACH OF THE PLAYERS FROM MY SESSION. THERE’S NO PAUSING, AND THERE’S NO SAVING UNLESS YOU COUNT TIME SHENANIGANS AND DOOMED TIMELINES AND SHIT BUT I’M NOT THE TROLL TO ASK ABOUT THAT SINCE I WASN’T A TIME PLAYER. AND THE AVERAGE PLAYER GETS TWO LIVES KINDA, YOUR MAIN SELF AND YOUR DREAM SELF. AND IF YOU DIE ON A QUEST COCOON, OR A QUEST BED IF YOU’RE A HUMAN, AND STILL HAVE YOUR SECOND LIFE, YOU BECOME GOD TIER AND BECOME IMMORTAL AND HAVE DUMB POWERS.
THERE WE’RE DONE. CASE CLOSED.”
"'Probably cartilage or something?' So then, you aliens are made of similar things as humans? Its so weird how we're so similar but so different! I always imaged aliens to just be so... incomprehensible! Like, something unimaginable, y'know? I always thought that maybe alien life would be so different from my own that I couldn't even contact them. Or recognize them as life. I mean, do you guys have the same basic needs for survival? Oh! Sorry sorry, no more questions!" She grinned, taking a quick breather from her constant talking. Nice was amazing at talking more than acting.
"Slime? You sleep in slime? Well, each to their own I guess..." Nice trailed off, looking him up and down. "Yes, killing other friends isn't quite the friendliest thing to do--but I'm sure it had some purpose behind it. Maybe. You should think though, that maybe it was something he couldn't help. But I guess you never know."
"Wait--what do you mean a time player?" She asked then covered her mouth. "Oh oh! No more questions!" Nice's word wasn't gold, but that wasn't too distinct to be a problem. "Never mind, I lied, I lied! I have one last question, where is the fun stuff here? Have you ran into anything worth running into yet?"
Karkat sighed. The questions were never going to end, were they?
"THE HORNS DON’T GET IN THE WAY UNLESS YOUR HORNS ARE FUCKING GINORMOUS LIKE TAVROS’ WERE. HE HAD HORRIBLE NIGHTTERRORS DUE TO THE FACT THAT HE COULDN’T COMPLETELY SUBMERGE HIMSELF IN HIS RECOOPERACOON, SO I GUESS THEY COULD BE A BIT INCONVENIENT BUT THAT WAS HIS FAULT FOR NOT BUILDING A RECOOPERACOON THAT WAS WIDE ENOUGH. AND I GUESS THEY CAN BE USED AS SELF DEFENSE AND LIKE I SAID THEY CAN BE PRETTY SENSITIVE AT TIMES SO SOME TROLLS LIKE TO USE THAT FACT FOR GETTING INTIMATE OR WHATEVER AND THEY’RE NOT HEAVY THEY’RE NOT MADE OUT OF BONE AND THEY DO GROW BACK EVENTUALLY IF THEY’RE BROKEN."
He looked down at the girl sitting and jotting down notes. Didn’t she realize he was kidding when he said to take notes? It was a little creepy. He shrugged it off and continued answering her endless stream of questions.
"NO I DIDN’T HAVE ALL OF MY QUADRANTS FILLED I NEVER HAD A KISMESIS AND MY ATTEMPTS AT FLUSHED FLIRTING ENDED DISAPPOINTINGLY BECAUSE I GAVE MIXED SIGNALS. MY MOIRAIL WAS A DOUCHE BAG MURDEROUS BACKSTABBING JUGGALO ASSHOLE SO THAT ENDED, AND I NEVER WAS NOR DID I EVER NEED AN AUSPISTICE.
AND GENDER IN TROLL SOCIETY IS ACTUALLY KIND OF DUMB CONSIDERING THE ONLY REAL DIFFERENCE IS IN PERSONALITY AND ALSO THE CHEST AREA BUT WHATEVER MAKES THEM HAPPY IS OK I GUESS.”
Great. Now she was asking about SGRUB.
"WELL MY FRIENDS AND I PLAYED THIS SHITTY VIDEO GAME CALLED SGRUB AND I WAS THE LEADER. BASICALLY THE GAME CAUSED THE DESTRUCTION OF OUR UNIVERSE AFTER WE ENTERED BUT WE WERE SENT ON THIS DUMB ASS QUEST TO SAVE THE GAME WORLD EVEN THOUGH WE WERE DOOMED TO FAILURE ANYWAY AND CREATE ANOTHER UNIVERSE. WE DID THAT AND BEAT THE GAME BECAUSE WE’RE BADASSES BUT THEN THE UNIVERSE WE CREATED, YOU GUYS, FUCKED UP AND MADE AN UNBEATABLE ENEMY THAT COULD TRAVEL THROUGH DIMENSIONS AND DESTROYED OUR ONLY CHANCE OF LEAVING THE GAME AND SOMEHOW WE ENDED UP WITH THE HUMANS FROM THE UNIVERSE WE CREATED IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GAME SESSION CAUSED BY THE HUMAN KIDS SCRATCHING THEIR SESSION AND SHIT WAS REALLY GOING DOWN BUT THEN WOOP-DE-FUCKING-DO GUESS WHAT I WAS ABDUCTED SUDDENLY AND HERE I AM. SO I DON’T EVEN KNOW EXACTLY HOW WE MADE YOU GUYS I JUST KNOW IT INVOLVED A LOT OF FROGS AND IT WAS A PAIN IN THE ASS. AND NO I DIDN’T TIME TRAVEL BECAUSE I’M A BLOOD PLAYER BUT ARADIA DID AND SO DID DAVE BECAUSE THEY’RE TIME PLAYERS.
ANY *OTHER* QUESTIONS?”
"T-they grow back? What are they made of?" She drew another picture--this one was a bit more random, with large horns and several labels. "Recooperacoon? What is that?" She cocked an eyebrow as she wrote down the word, misspelling and underlining it. "Recoop... Like, is it something to energize you? Your species is a lot like bugs! Is that what you guys are? Bugs? Your like a bug/human hybrid..." Nice wrote that down as well. It'd be interesting if she had a test subject she could dissect, but she wouldn't get her hopes up about that. Looking Karkat up and down, he didn't seem to fit the description of something violent with badass horns. Nice assumed he wasn't too popular.
"So a... 'DOUCHE BAG MURDEROUS BACKSTABBING JUGGALO ASSHOLE'? Isn't that a bit harsh for someone who is supposed to be your platonic soul mate? Shouldn't you care about your moirail a lot...? Like, you said your species was violent." She lectured, not bothering to ask about who all he'd killed.
"So, wait, then is my world a video game? Well, wouldn't that mean YOUR universe was created by a video game as well? Perhaps its NOT a video game then maybe, but something created by a one true God? If we were created by a video game, what kind of video game is it? And how do you pause the game or save? How many lives do you get? I'm sure there would've been an easy way to figure all that out if you had played your cards right!" She exclaimed, topping off her notes.
"There, thats the last of my questions!"
♦ Experiment | Intro
Slender fingers fluttered against blacks strands of hair, moving them to one side of his forehead, just to arrange them again. His head hurt, but no more than his consciousness - what was that all about? The stranger’s words still flew in his mind, and he was gradually letting his anger aside to observe the city ahead. He was taken from his beautiful, cozy hometown. And seemed to be observable. It was frustrating. Ridiculous. Who would like a situation like that?
But even so, a smile appeared on his face. A new city. With new people. The place where he lived wasn’t so bad and this location seemed somewhat interesting. Not many people lived there - for now - then getting his old job back again wouldn’t be a problem - after all, he was the best at what he did, no matter where.
Not counting that… That brute didn’t exist on this place.
Turning to a new stranger, he quickly showed up with a soft smile, speaking in a calm tone. “Hello, I’m new here, would you like to help me to know which places around are nice to know? After all, maps can’t show us the real locations, you feel me?”
The sun burned down on the top of Nice's head and she whined. Ruffling her hair around in frustration she peered around. She combed her fingers through in an attempt to fix it and dug out ties from her back pocket. She pulled her hair into pig tails.
The first time she had ended up lost in Fargo or Arago or whatever the city was called (she still had yet to bother with learning the name) it was pretty intriguing and not to mention exciting, but this time the hot sticky weather clung to her and she was almost miserable.
Everyone around her looked too off-putting to actually approach; which was odd, Nice never had trouble with intimidating strangers. Now she had some sort of bad omen. "Oh well..." She sighed, shrugging off her backpack to dig around through it again, just to check for the fourth time if she had really lost her map. All she had was a makeshift map she had scribbled herself spotted with various locations she had seen that day.
"Huh?" Nice looked up at the guy and grinned. "Oh! Oh! Hello there! You're new?!" Thank god, she thought, maybe she could get directions from this guy since he appeared to still have a map. "I'm new here too, so I'm afraid I won't be much of help with that, but I have been wondering around for quite a while, and I've found some cool looking stuff! My name is Nice! What's yours?"
Karkat tapped his foot impatiently. Why did she have to ask so many questions?
"A SWEEP IS ABOUT 26 OF YOUR EARTH MONTHS. THAT’S HOW LONG IT TOOK OUR PLANET TO GO AROUND OUR SUN. AS FOR PSYCHIC POWERS, MY FRIEND ARADIA, WHO WAS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HEMOSPECTRUM, COULD HEAR THE VOICES OF AND SPEAK WITH THE DEAD. TAVROS, WHO WAS RIGHT ABOVE HER, COULD COMMUNICATE WITH AND CONTROL ANIMALS. SOLLUX WAS YELLOWBLOOD AND A PSIONIC AND HAD RIDICULOUS POWERS KIND OF LIKE YOUR CYCLOPS FROM YOUR XMEN SERIES BUT WITH MORE POWERS INVOLVED LIKE TELEKINESIS. AND WHEN A TROLL IS HATCHED HE OR SHE IS TAKEN IN BY A LUSUS OF THE SAME BLOOD COLOR. I DON’T KNOW HOW THE LUSUS KNOWS, I GUESS THEY CAN SMELL IT OR SOMETHING. AND MOST TROLLS WEAR THEIR BLOOD COLOR ON THEIR SLEEVES… LITERALLY. AND SINCE WE’RE PRETTY VIOLENT, IT’S KIND OF HARD TO HIDE IT."
He paused for a second. Didn’t she listen at all? He literally just said that he didn’t know what psychic powers the limebloods had. Nobody really knew anymore. They just knew that there was a gap in the hemospectrum.
"NO NO NO I WASN’T THE ONLY ONE THAT CREATED YOU. MY ELEVEN FRIENDS AND I DID WHEN WE PLAYED THAT STUPID GAME. I’M NOT THE ONLY CONSTELLATION IN YOUR SKY. AND I’M NOT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HEMOSPECTRUM. I ACTUALLY DON’T KNOW WHERE I AM IN THE HEMOSPECTRUM. I’M KIND OF A MUTANT…"
He took offense to the comment about his horns.
"YOU KNOW WHAT? MAYBE MY HORNS ARE NUBBY BUT SOME OF OUR KIND HAVE INCREDIBLY INTIMIDATING HORNS OK? ARADIA’S WERE LIKE YOUR EARTH RAMS’ AND TAVROS’S WERE LIKE YOUR EARTH BULLS’. SURE, ERIDAN’S LOOKED SILLY BUT THAT’S JUST BECAUSE THEY *WERE* DUMB AS SHIT, BUT GAMZEE’S WERE REALLY LONG AND SHARP.
IT’S SPELLED C-O-N-C-U-P-I-S-C-E-N-T. AND NO, IT’S NOT LIKE A ‘BEST FRIEND.’ A MOIRAIL IS A PROTECTOR OF THE OTHER MOIRAIL’S HEART. IT’S NOT ‘PLATONIC BEST BROS FOR LIFE.’ IT’S A WHOLE LOT MORE EXHAUSTING THAN THAT.”
Karkat sighed. Human’s just couldn’t understand moirallegiance, could they? He had tried to explain it to Rose and Dave on the meteor, but they just sort of looked at him funny.
"I FORGOT THAT YOU HUMANS USE BLUEBLOOD VERNACULAR. LOAD GAPER IS THE COMMON WORD FOR ‘TOILET.’ "
Oh, now she was asking for it. Fine. He would tell her all about troll reproduction. All of the gross details. All of them.
"OK LET’S TAKE TROLL BIOLOGY. I HOPE YOU HAVE YOUR PEN AND PAPER READY TO TAKE SOME SERIOUS NOTES.
SO ONCE A TROLL IS 10 SWEEPS OLD. HE OR SHE HAD BETTER HAVE BOTH A KISMESIS AND A MATESPRIT AND HAVE DONE THE NASTY OR ELSE THEY GET CULLED. AN IMPERIAL DRONE COMES AROUND WITH THESE GIANT ASS BUCKETS, ONE FOR RED AND ONE FOR BLACK, TO COLLECT THE GENETIC MATERIAL PRODUCED BY THE TWO PAIRS. THE DRONES THEN BRING THESE BUCKETS TO THE MOTHER GRUB IN THE BROODING CAVERNS DEEP UNDERGROUND. THE MOTHER RUB COMBINES THIS GENETIC METERIAL TOGETHER INTO A BIG DIABOLICAL INCESTUOUS SLURRY AND LAYS HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF EGGS AT ONCE. SPECIFIC TRAITS COME OUT THROUGH VARIOUS MEANS, DEPENDENT ON DOMINANT GENES AND HOW STRONG THE KISMESISSITUDE OR MATESPRITSHIP WAS. NATURALLY, THE LOWER THE BLOOD CASTE, THE MORE DOMINANT THE GENES. THERE ARE A HELL OF A LOT MORE LOWBLOODS THAN HIGHBLOODS.
WHEN THE EGGS HATCH, TROLLS ARE WRIGGLERS OR ‘GRUBS.’ THEY WRIGGLE ABOUT TO FIND A COZY STALACTITE TO CREATE THEIR COCOONS. WRIGGLERS’ EYES ARE THE SAME AS THEIR BLOOD COLOR AND SO ARE THE EYES OF ADULT TROLLS. IT’S JUST US TEENAGERS WHO HAVE GREY EYES. THEN A SHIT TON OF WRIGGLERS ARE CULLED FOR BASICALLY NO REASON OTHER THAN POPULATION CONTROL BECAUSE ALTERNIA WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO HOUSE ANOTHER MILLION TROLLS EACH TIME THEY PUPATE.
AFTER WE PUPATE, WE UNDERGO A SERIES OF DANGEROUS TRIALS WITH OUR NEWFOUND LIMBS. IF WE SURVIVE THAT, WE CAN BE CHOSEN BY A LUSUS WHO TAKES CARE OF US. TOGETHER, WE VENTURE TO THE SURFACE AND BEGIN TO BUILD OUR OWN HIVE.
OUR NAMES ARE GIVEN TO US BY OUR LUSUS.. BASICALLY WHATEVER SIX LETTER FIRST AND LAST NAME IS CLOSEST TO THE INCOHERENT BLUBBERING AND SCREECHING A LUSUS MAKES IS THE NAME WE ARE GIVEN.
WE DON’T EVEN HAVE ACTUAL GENDERS OTHER THAN OUTSIDE APPEARANCE. WE HAVE THE SAME REPRODUCTIVE ORGANS AND MATESPRITS AND KISMESISES CAN BE THE SAME GENDER OR A DIFFERENT GENDER REALLY.
WHEN A TROLL BECOMES AN ADULT THEY’RE BASICALLY TAKEN OFF OF ALTERNIA TO AID HER IMPERIAL CONDESCENSION IN HER INTERGALACTIC CONQUEST. ESSENTIALLY ALL OF THE TROLLS ON ALTERNIA ARE CHILDREN.”
Karkat didn’t bother explaining that this reproductive system wasn’t even how he and his friends were created. Ectobiology wasn’t part of troll culture and therefore wasn’t important to this discussion. She didn’t ask about that, and therefore he wouldn’t tell her.
"AND SHIT I DON’T KNOW IF TROLLS CAN BE SUNBURNED. I’VE NEVER SEEN A SUNBURN. THE ONLY DAMAGE I’VE SEEN THAT WAS DONE BY OUR SUN WAS TEREZI’S BLINDNESS AND SHE ONLY HAD HER EYES OPEN FOR A SPLIT SECOND BEFORE SHE WAS BLIND. SHE DIDN’T GET ANY BURNS THOUGH."
Nice, though she would never admit it, was pretty taken aback. Did this little boy shout all the time? She figured the poor guy must have some problems with his throat since he had just sat there screaming for a good 5 minutes while explaining his weird troll lifestyle. Well, whatever. With a shrug, Nice jotted the basics of what he was talking about. From a young age, she had had some sort of weird alien obsession, and shady as he was, Nice couldn't keep from studying Karkat as best she could. But the shouting thing was just so distracting. She combed her hand through her hair (which was slightly tangled due to the humid heat).
"Amazing! So, then your sun must've been gigantic and horribly bright! If you were that far from the sun that it took 26 Earth-months to orbit it... but it was still that damaging... Damn..." She muttered, perking up and staring at him, for a moment there, she forgot to continue writing, but she just shrugged off the information she missed. It wasn't that big of a deal anyway.
"So lower bloods have stronger powers to help them survive then? To make up for the fact that they're worse off, so they can protect themselves?" She inquired, making a little doodle of how she had imagined 'Aradia' to look. It was such a pretty name, she thought.
"Don't the horns get in the way of your everyday life? Well--no, I guess you've adapted to them very well so that was a dumb question! But do you ever think you'd be more productive if your race had no horns? Do they serve any purpose other than looking cool? Do they ever get in the way? Aren't they inconvenient and heavy? Well, I guess you wouldn't know about that..." She jotted down ram horns on her drawing of Aradia and snickered a bit, hoping she had struck another nerve.
"More exhausting? Well, friendships where you're trying to protect each other can be pretty exhausting... Maybe not 'platonic best bros' or whatever... But like... Platonic soul mates!" She exclaimed, praising herself for making the connection (however inaccurate it was). "So, Karkat! Did you have all your quadrants filled?"
Nice's face twisted a bit when the conversation turned to troll sex-ed. It was pretty fucked up, she'd admit, but fascinating as well. She kept her lips sealed though, as she might've been pushing him a bit too far. Again she reminded herself not to over do things.
Whatever though, she got the rest of her notes jotted down then grinned. "So, you've got no separate... Uhm... Genitals, but yet you still have presenting gender? That manages to match up with human gender? Well, I guess... You guys were here first so human gender matches up with troll gender then. But, when did YOU create us? Are you immortal? Earth has been here for a while now, when did you make us? Have you time traveled?" Nice drew out her question slowly, the realization making her doubt Karkat even further.
