I genuinely think the fast decline of the heated rivalry fandom is one of the saddest ones I've seen. This was such a groundbreaking and culturally impactful show that has now been completely overshadowed by larrie spawns, "solo" fan wars started by people who are constantly trying to prove one of the actors is more problematic than the other, and people caring too much about actor's personal lives and the people in it. I've seen people claim this wouldn't have happened if hudson was never casted, or if they hired an all-queer cast, but I doubt that's true. I actually think if hudson was queer people would be even MORE parasocial. I miss the days when it was all about the show and queer joy, when shipping hudcon didn't really go beyond the jokes of "they come as a pair, do not separate, and nothing was serious. We were just happy to see them together, having a wholesome bond. And if by any slim chance, they were both queer and into each other, great. We will happily support. But you tinhatters have managed to achieve in months what took larrie and kaylor shippers YEARS. Spreading misery in all the tags because you've convinced yourselves the straight one is actually gay and his girlfriend of who knows how many years is willingly and happily pretending along. Opening up the doors for people who live for internet drama and allowing yourselves to be trolled by fake stories, sightings, etc. If the show actually means something to you, get it together and ignore the people you claim to not care about, drop the conspiracies and choose peace lmao.

i know shane was probably a montreal fan growing up, because yuna was a fan. but when he gets drafted by them in ep one, he says they're his mom's favorite team specifically, not his. And shane grew up in Ottawa, so he definitely went to centaurs games as a kid. And baby shane hollander definitely had arguments at recess in elementary school debating the centaurs playoff chances. he had the jerseys, he had the posters and fun merch, he probably watched all the games. baby shane hollander was a centaurs fan.

what i'm getting at is, obviously ilya went to ottawa to be closer to shane, and to be in canada and get citizenship. the plan made sense. but also. also. it was shane's idea. and shane hollander literally sent his favorite hockey player, one of the best players in the league, to probably his favorite team as a child to make them good again. and it worked.
