LAST BOOK I READ Last completed read was actually A Darker Shore: Letters from Ketterdam by our queen Leigh Bardugo. So fucking cute and felt very true to the series. Still waiting on someone to post a performance of the music.
A BOOK I’D RECOMMEND Too many to list here but The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haidt genuinely changed the way I think about... everything. He goes through how people form moral judgments and how that affects our political ideologies. Extremely informative and I learned so much about human beings, including myself.
BOOK I COULDN’T PUT DOWN The first book in the Godkissed Bride series White Horse Black Nights by Evie Marceau was like absolute crack to me. It's the best one in the whole series and my god this woman knows how to write a scene. I won't say it's high literature (If I have to read about this guy's balls tightening one more fucking time...), but I think we need to release 99% of published media from this ludicrous expectation.
BOOK I’VE READ TWICE OR MORE I never re-read books. So that should tell you how much I love Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, because I did re-read those.
BOOK ON MY TBR What isn't on my TBR? The Haar by David Sodergren has been on it forever. I try to read a horror novel every Halloween to get in the spirit of it all, so that'll be this year's festive read.
BOOK I’VE PUT DOWN Jade War by Fonda Lee. I heard SO MANY GOOD THINGS about this trilogy but had to call it in the 2nd one. I can see why people like it but her prose is just too utilitarian for me. Too purple is a thing but I need it a little... lavender. At least. That, and maybe AO3 has spoiled me for good smut (and it hurts me to say this), but the sex scenes felt mechanical and kind of irrelevant. Like they were just there to check some kind of marketing box.
A BOOK ON MY WISHLIST I would kill to have a physical copy of The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus. I love foraging for books and this is one that I absolutely must encounter in the wild to have. (Buying online is cheating)
FAVORITE BOOK FROM CHILDHOOD Do graphic novels count? Hands down Captain Underpants. My brother and I got so much giggly mileage out of those books I could not even tell you.
A BOOK I’D GIVE TO A FRIEND Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett was such a fun, wholesome book I'd give to any fantasy-loving friend.
BOOK OF POETRY OR LYRIC THAT I OWN TBH I don't think I own a single poetry/lyric book at all. Unless I can dig out my copy of Wasps by Aristophanes from undergrad.
WHAT I’M CURRENTLY READING Too many things but right now it's Before They are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie (God I love Glokta for obvious reasons), Lady Chatterley's Lover by D.H. Lawrence (love a banned book), and Internal Medicine Board Review, 12th Ed. by Mayo Clinic (a real tear-jerker).
WHAT I’M PLANNING ON READING NEXT Gotta finish Abercrombie's First Law Series with Last Argument of Kings after I'm done with #2. Then it's finishing Lady Chatterley's Lover and thinking about I See You've Called In Dead by John Kenney on my mother's recommendation. The TBR list grows too fast for me to keep up!
