the next big tumblr discourse is going to be that it’s problematic to make fun of anti vaxxers for some reason
potential ways this could go
“people, especially marginalized people, have EVERY RIGHT to be suspicious of the medical profession because of various human rights abuses” somehow warps into “if you criticize anti vaxxers you hate marginalized people and also who’s to say there ISN’T dangerous stuff in vaccines?”
making fun of anti-vaxxers is misogynistic because anti-vaxxerism often manifests itself in “mommy culture”
making fun of anti-vaxxers is ableist or classist or something because some people don’t have the resources to understand the complex list of ingredients in vaccines and it’s wrong to shame them for being suspicious of something that’s not accessible to them
woke conspiracy theory tumblr comes out with one of those “elites drinking children’s blog to stay young” style posts about how mmr vaccines are being used to sterilize people or keep them complacent or something
it’s problematic to give your babies vaccines because children are unable to consent to them (i’ve actually seen this one before on this hellsite lol)
suggesting CHEMICALS are safer at preventing disease than NATURAL REMEDIES like oranges or ginger is western-centric
telling people to vaccinate is telling people what to do with their bodies and that’s always wrong
this post was supposed to be a joke not a fucking prophecy
And where's Anti-Vax Dad?
You did this

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 reclaiming our time
i don’t want to achieve equality by sinking to men’s level, i want them to get on ours! why should i have to unlearn the conversational art of waiting my turn, unlearn sexual self-restraint, unlearn trust in others’ good intentions, unlearn the impulse to cater to others’ needs, just to have a chance at success among savages? why can’t the men learn some fucking manners so we can all conduct our affairs in a civilized manner? i shouldn’t have to stop saying sorry, you say sorry!
In the 80s when I was in my freshman year in college, they still had entirely separate mens and women’s dorms. I was in class waiting for a final to start and one of the guys was telling someone about how he had had to go into a women’s dorm to drop something off, and he was startled to see posters on the walls, flowers, curtains, etc. He said his men’s dorm had holes in the walls, things on fire, fights, guys walking around with open wounds and he just didn’t understand why they had to live like this. He said, “I want to live with the women, in civilization.”
Am reading Sisterhood of Spies, about women working for the OSS during WWII. One of the stories mentions that the women in London had a male visitor who would eat in their mess hall once a month. He was married and wasn’t interested in hitting on any of the women; he just wanted to eat in an atmosphere where people said “Please pass the butter,” instead of “PASS THE GODDAMNED GREASE”
I dated a guy who brought me along on group activities (movies, video game night, etc.) with four or five other male friends. Once I mentioned to one of the other guys that I hoped I wasn’t intruding on their “guy time” or some such. He got this sort of rueful look and said, “The truth is, I really like it when you’re here because it gives us a reason to act better. When it’s just guys, we all have to try to outdo each other with how vile we are.”
So the moral of these stories are men don’t even treat each other like human beings.
Me to my 6-year-old son: “You seem to like playing with the girls at school more than the boys. Why do you think that is?”
6-year-old son: “Sometimes I just don’t want to be pushed. It hurts and is mean. And the girls always pretend to be princesses or fun animals and stuff when they have tea parties. The boys just dump the tea all over the place. That’s just stupid and I don’t like wasting all that tea. It takes forever to make.”
Me: “Wow, I can understand why you’d rather play with the girls. The boys seem like they’re kind of rough.”
6-year-old son: “And when I play with the girls they make me the king because none of the other boys want to play tea party.”
Me: “Do you like being the king?”
6-year-old son: “Not really – I’d rather be a wizard, but it makes Georgia and Vivian happy.”
I used to play ‘horses’ with my friends. So we’d get a one person skipping rope, put it round our waist - we were the horse - and the rider would stand behind us holding the ends.
A boy called Luke, even up to Yr6 (UK) in primary school, would play it with us. Because he wasn’t into the rough and tumble games the lads would play.
I want one of those scenes in a dude bro film where “tomboy” chick has to wear a dress to go undercover or whatever, but instead of the guys drooling as she walks down the stairs, they’re like “k. U need to stop. Go put the cargo pants back on. You look super uncomfortable and awkward in that. Brutus, you go be the fake prostitute.”
I’m just imagining this super ripped guy called Brutus being like ‘YESSS!!! I’VE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE THE FAKE PROSTITUTE!! Now is my time to shine!!’
so I got inspired… and had to make a comic….

How are disabled and interracial illegal???
Interracial marriage was outlawed for the longest time, and disabled people lose government benefits when they get married so they cannot have reassurance that they will continue to LIVE if they get married.
Story time: my mom is white, dad is black. They’ve been together twenty four years, married for twenty three. When my parents were dating they did it on the low TO KEEP MY DAD SAFE.
My mom’s parents said “We don’t care who you love.” At that point she’d only ever brought home white guys. She brought my dad home-her mother called her a nigger lover and damned the relationship as much as possible. Her father grew around his prejudices after I was born but never apologized, just wasn’t a blatant fuck.
The day she introduced my father to her family was the last time she spoke to her mother for over twenty years. When I was getting sick and she called and asked her mother and grandmother if anyone in the family had anything strange happen similar what I was going through they told her “it’s because you married a black man. You made your bed, you lie in it.”
Cops pulled them over all the time and asked my mom IF SHE WAS OKAY AND IF SHE NEEDED HELP BECAUSE MY FATHER-A BLACK MAN-WAS DRIVING A 100 POUND WHITE WOMAN AROUND. HE WAS HARRASSED AND THREATED WITH ARREST.
My father ended up getting into a fight in self defence because some entitled hick decided he didn’t like seeing a black man and white woman in the bar together. Thankfully other patrons helped my father but he still couldn’t go to the er for his injuries. My mom patched him up and they were terrified the cops would take him away.
THEIR BEST FRIEND GOT LICENSED TO MARRY THEM SO THEY COULD ACTUALLY TIE THE KNOT BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE WOULD AND CITED JIM CROW ERA LAW AS TO WHY.
When shopping with just me my father wouldn’t hold my hand if there was a group around. Why? I’m far lighter than him and people had stopped and asked him “whose child is that?” Or “little girl where’s your parents?” and were stunned when I grinned and pointed at my dad and proudly proclaimed “my daddy’s right here.” You know where else mixed kids couldn’t hold their parents hands? Apartheid South Africa. We live in fucking FLORIDA.
So yeah. Some history for you.
This post was made in October 2018. The above poster’s parents met in 1994. We were a generation removed from the Civil Rights movement and this was happening.
if you call women “females” i automatically do not trust or like you
you really wont like the military then buddy
jokes on you, i already hate the military
What I think is really interesting about the papyrus account of the workers building the tomb of Rameses III going on strike to demand better wages is really fascinating to me because if you look at the description given by the royal scribe you see that there was an attempt to satisfy the workers by bringing a large amount of food at once but that was rebuffed by the workers who declared that it wasn’t just that they were hungry at the moment but had serious charges to bring that “something bad had been done in this place of Pharoah” (is poor wages and mistreatment). They understood themselves as having long term economic interests as a -class- and organized together knowing that by doing so they could put forward their demands collectively. It so strongly flies in the face of narratives that are like “in this Time and Place people were happy to be serve because they believed in the God-King and maybe you get some intellectual outliers but certainly no common person questioned that”. If historical sources might paint that sorta picture of cultural homogeneity it is because those sources sought not to describe something true but invent a myth for the stability of a regime.
Since this is getting notes here’s a link to a translation of the papyrus scroll and here’s an article that gets further into the economic situation surrounding the strike and giving an explanation of the events. The workers didnt just refuse to construct Rameses III’s future tomb, they actually occupied the Valley of the Kings and were preventing anyone from entering to perform rituals or funerals. Basically they set up the first ever recorded picket line
Again the workers went on strike, this time taking over and blocking all access to the Valley of the Kings. The significance of this act was that no priests or family members of the deceased were able to enter with food and drink offerings for the dead and this was considered a serious offense to the memory of those who had passed on to the afterlife. When officials appeared with armed guards and threatened to remove the men by force, a striker responded that he would damage the royal tombs before they could move against him and so the two sides were stalemated.
Eventually the tomb workers were able to win the day and acquire their demands and actually set a precedent for organized labor and strikes in Egyptian society that continued for a long time
The jubilee in 1156 BCE was a great success and, as at all festivals, the participants forgot about their daily troubles with dancing and drink. The problem did not go away, however, and the workers continued their strikes and their struggle for fair payment in the following months. At last some sort of resolution seems to have been reached whereby officials were able to make payments to the workers on time but the dynamic of the relationship between temple officials and workers had changed – as had the practical application of the concept of ma’at – and these would never really revert to their former understandings again. Ma’at was the responsibility of the pharaoh to oversee and maintain, not the workers; and yet the men of Deir el-Medina had taken it upon themselves to correct what they saw as a breach in the policies which helped to maintain essential harmony and balance. The common people had been forced to assume the responsibilities of the king.
[…]
The success of the tomb-worker/artisan strikes inspired others to do the same. Just as the official records of the battle with the Sea Peoples never recorded the Egyptian losses in the land battle, neither do they record any mention of the strikes. The record of the strike comes from a papyrus scroll discovered at Deir el-Medina and most probably written by the scribe Amennakht. The precedent of workers walking away from their jobs was set by these events and, although there are no extant official reports of other similar events, workers now understood they had more power than previously thought. Strikes are mentioned in the latter part of the New Kingdom and Late Period and there is no doubt the practice began with the workers at Deir el-Medina in the time of Ramesses III.
There was also a strike at one point where construction workers refused to continue until they were given sufficient “cosmetics.”
This was thought a highly strange thing until somebody deciphered the recipe for the “cosmetics” the workers were demanding and recreated it.
It was sunscreen. Sunscreen.
Making that the first recorded strike over occupational safety.
It’s called the Turin Strike Papyrus and is indicative of the wider socioeconomic problems of the later Ramesside period.
This is why tomb robbery (my speciality and PhD topic) had already started, as the failing state did not have the resources to pay the workers. Corruption at a local level by the governors of east and west Thebes (one is called Khaemwese and I forget the other). These two encouraged local thebans to rob tombs in order to supplement their income. Both of these guys were basically embezzling ‘funds’ and when the central government found out, both governors blamed the other. This is the context for the strikes. They went ‘beyond the walls of the Medjay’ (necropolis security) and basically had several weeks of strikes in which they insult the vizier in several hilarious ways.
So after the strikes the central government ordered an investigation into the corruption and tomb robbery, which is recorded in Papyrus Abbott. It basically concludes that not much robbery had taken place and the two governors were chill. This of course was 100% horseshit, and the central government was covering its ass so as to not ruin the ideology of perfect burials for the Pharaohs. Some common folk were punished by death but the higher ups got away with it. Nothing changes does it?
This didn’t sit well with the Theban populace because they’d been striking over unfair pay and conditions and the central/local governments were basically covering the whole thing up. So they kept robbing tombs in the Valley of the Kings/Queens/Nobles for another 20 years, until the central government caught wind of it again and ordered a full investigation. This investigation forms the basis of the tomb robbery papyri corpus. A lot of people were executed for it. Some were opportunistic and greedy, others just trying to feed their families (the socioeconomic problems that caused the strikes also led to the downfall of Egyptian civilisation - weak economy and weak government led to invasions by neighbouring civilisations and Egypt never recovered).

crusty white man: i idolize this misogynistic, racist male character with a violent superiority complex that was meant to be a commentary on men like me but i’m too dumb to realize that, he is just like me!
some girl with dyed hair: i idolize this quirky, alternatively dressed female character with a bubbly personality and many friends because i think she’s cute and funny, she’s just like me!
