So the Sundrop is naturally more inclined to good things, but can still be used to harm., and vice versa for the moonstone.

I’m not at all good with poetry so I just shoved the original incantations into a rusty blender but uhh here’s mine

The sacrifice incantation

“Flower gleam and glow

My characters powers simply transfer pain so he cannot truly save a life unless it’s at the cost of his own, so I made this incantation to show that(and in case I feel like making him die)

In episode 83, we got our confirmation that Pluto is missing an eye, his father being the reason he’s missing an eye, like with the owner in the Black Cat and the exact details about what happened. However, we still don’t know what Pluto’s eye looks after what happened and how much time passed between Pluto losing his eye and his death. Well, I was thinking about this and I came to a pretty sad realisation. Thanks to Ironscorpion on the Nevermore discord, the current timeframe we have for Pluto is 1923-1928. The NHS was formed in 1948, so at the latest, twenty years after Pluto lost his eye. Before the NHS was created, people were generally required to pay for their healthcare, although free treatment was sometimes available from charitable voluntary hospitals, as well as some local authorities operating hospitals for local ratepayers. Now from what we’ve seen, Pluto and his dad don’t seem to be well off, far from it. In addition, considering what we’ve seen from his dad and the obvious factor of him being the reason Pluto lost his eye in the first place, I doubt he would pay or even allow Pluto to seek out treatment. So, depending on how much time passed between losing his eye and his death, it’s possible that Pluto was never able to go to a hospital for his eye and had to do his best to treat it himself. Furthermore, even if he was able go to a hospital, chances are that he would have to sneak out and pay for it himself

My apologies but how did this person get the time frame that they did? Cause I made a theory of my own that says Pluto was alive in the 30s-40s. I got this from using his train ticket that says LM&SR on it, which was an actual railway system around from 1923-1948.

But then since his spectres coat resembles that of a military uniform I presumed he must have died during a war and that memory couldn’t have been more then 3 years away from his death because of how similar it is in appearance. So I looked up British wars in the 19th century(photo and link of said site below)

The earliest war present during the railroads time was WW2 unless the source was faulty, so the earliest that memory could have been is 1936. And the earliest his death could have been is 1939.

Of course it is possible the whole coat thing was a stretch so I’d like to hear the reasoning of this person, I’ll also download discord to see if I can find them in person to ask!

In “the black cat” which is the story Pluto is from, he is quite literally a cat who’s owner becomes an alcoholic and slowly gets more aggressive towards Pluto. One day he cuts out one of Plutos eyes with a pen knife cause Pluto bit his hand in self defense. At first the man felt bad, but slowly got mad Pluto was practically hiding and running from him constantly, to a point the man took Pluto and hung him on the tree in his backyard.

With the given information about canon Pluto and his inspiration, it would make sense to confirm that Pluto was likely abused by his dad, and that, since Pluto should be around the age of an elderly cat, be 15 years old the latest. I don’t know who hung him in this story but we can still pinpoint his father was probably at least some of the cause.

Using even more of the info we get(the description of cryptids) it would add on to the sadness of his specter cause that likely means that

A. He wanted to run away from society cause he was scared EVERYBODY would just try and hurt him due to the way he was raised

B. The thing he wanted to achieve that society believed he couldn’t is either wanting a loving home, or he believed society didn’t believe in him cause he was constantly treated like trash and ultimately felt useless. Maybe even both.

C. He died feeling relieved which COULD hint at he killed himself, but an even sadder option is his dad did hang him but Pluto was just relieved it was the end for everything, including the torture he was going through, not even caring his own dad killed him and even half expected it.

When the truth is revealed it’s gonna hit like a pile of bricks, but at least having a general idea of what happened before it’s confirmed can lighten the load. The reason I like this kid so much is because there’s so much to unpack about him, it’s just people don’t notice it. I mean if people did he wouldn’t be dead right now, his entire life as both a character and human is to be overlooked, and I like looking at things like that. He’s honestly underrated.

I'm aware of the story Pluto is based on. However, most of Nevermore is only inspired by the works of Edgar Allan Poe. This is pretty apparent with the way it's handling "The Cask of Amantillado". I won't go into too many details because it's a spoiler for the fast pass episodes, but while the way it plays out is similar there are a lot of very notable differences.

I do think there's credence to the "Pluto was murdered" theory, but while he's got obvious self confidence issues and anxiety he doesn't really read to me like someone who's suffered such a large amount of abuse. It's possible that he just hasn't remembered much about his life so we'll see it more later, but it seems more like there was probably emotional abuse going on rather than physical.

Now that I’m thinking about it your probably right about the abuse, he doesn’t have any form of scarring we can see, though he covers up most of his body I don’t think there’s any form of scarring underneath. But I think with the way his coat looks might be some form of hinting towards how he might’ve had a lot of hand me downs in life, which is a BIGGG stretch, but ya know the coat IS big on him.

With the way he’s acting about Plutos disappearance(this is also a stretch and mostly a gut feeling) that Pluto has seen somebody disappear before when he was alive… it could easily just be he’s worried for his friend but he’s just a lot more frantic compared to everybody else, and a lot more urgent too. While some are trying to find him Pluto seems to have it planted in his head the best that there’s a time limit to finding him.

And I mostly believe Pluto merely commited suicide but I just have to leave the potential of murder open since we can’t prove otherwise quite yet.

Finally, using my own personal experience slightly, when we first met him in the maze his actions gave off a “if I don’t do anything I can’t be in the way” vibe to me. I also struggle with this sometimes where I just feel like I’ll get in more trouble trying to do something then if I just let the chaos happen, stay out the sight of whoever’s mad so I can stay off their mind. When Pluto finally gets a chance to shine its with 2 main things:

A. The tightrope where he realizes he HAS to do something in order to not be abandoned

B. It was brought up by accident he knew what the words mean and made a conscious decision not to say so previously feeling like there was no point, adding on to my theory of the “doing nothing won’t help but it won’t cause problems, and I’d rather do nothing then cause problems” mentality on this kid!

I'm sure he could be hiding scarring, but I feel like if he had been abused to that point he would be more avoidant to physical contact even subconsciously (much like his story counterpart), which he very much isn't.

I think him being so frantic over Duke's disappearance is mostly because Lenore and Duke appear to be Pluto's first real friends, and the two had already become close judging by the fact that Duke was going to walk him to class. Also, while everyone assumed Duke was playing hooky, Pluto knew the entire time that Montresor had done something to him so of course he was more worried about it.

Also, I don't think it was as much trying not to be in the way as it was that he's uncomfortable interacting with new people. When they trade him for Morella, Prospero outright says that Pluto basically stuck to him because they were roommates and didn't interact with anyone else. He also assumed that the other two knew what the phobias were already so he didn't know he needed to say anything in the first place.

I just read a thing about how people seem to ignore Pluto freaking out about Dukes disappearance and listens to everyone else EXCEPT him. They brushed it off as a writing issue

But this seems to happen quite a bit.

In episode 17 when Pluto expresses a want to not go through the trial instead of asking what exactly he’s scared of Duke proceeds to practically self project(by that I mean say what he would want to see the eyes as) on Pluto by telling him to image he’s on a big stage.when Pluto says it makes things worse Duke immediately gives and just expresses how Pluto is annoying, and how it was better when Pluto wasn’t around. They then proceed to forcibly drag him across.

In the next room Duke immediately assumed Pluto will be useless and TRYS TO ABANDON HIM!!!! Pluto literally has to convince them he knows how to do this before he can be dropped in. Lenore admits she underestimated Pluto and he’s immediately happy over it ignoring fact HE WAS NEARLY DITCHED FOR HAVING FEELINGS

Nothing of importance regarding Pluto being emotionally neglected until episode 18. After finding out about how Pluto studies Etymology they get frustrated they weren’t told sooner(understandable) then he admits he can’t swim AND FINALLY they tell him it’s ok instead being peaved off about his existence. YAYY FOR ACTUALLY COMFORTING PLUTO 👏👏👏

On the original point, I kinda agree with the op about Pluto's hypothetical suicide, especially given the recent updates. Not only because of the way Pluto manifested but also because suicide, especially in his case, can be seen as a way to escape society by doing something "beyond what humanity deems admissible". Except that there's a contradiction : committing suicide won't make you escape and triumph from society's pressure, it will make them win, because you'll be put down and bend under it. Which could highly explain why Pluto's Cryptid is domesticated : he wanted to escape, but ultimately society broke him to his core and made him bend down to put a collar around his neck. It's like loosing a game on purpose thinking you'll prove your superiority because you'll make it end faster. So, suicide is it. But I'm still unsure if it's passive or active suicide.

Now I think @autismnerd (I like your username btw) already brought up the idea of passive suicide, which is honestly extremely possible, with Pluto being abused until he just couldn't stand up anymore and just stopped fighting, letting his father kill him. (active murder + passive suicide)

But if you want to find a link between the original Poe's "Black Cat" and the theory of him actively killing himself, I think you could see it that way : his father killed him indirectly by abusing him until he couldn't keep going and committed suicide. (passive murder + active suicide)

Now both cases include the idea he've been murdered AND the idea that he might have killed himself. No need to thank me for the amount of confusion I just bought to the table. You're welcome.

Also edit because I forgot to add this BUT : I think Pluto did lost someone he deeply cared for when he was alive, and I think it might be his mom.

Thank you so much for adding an input bro, ngl Pluto was one of the first characters I’ve made theories with which is why I keep on switching around and around. And I’d like to bring up some time period research based on the newer free episodes to you!

Plutos train ticket has “L.M. & S.R” on it which was an actual train system. The letters are short for London, Midland and Scottish railway. This railway was formed January 1923 and stopped being around January 1948.

On top of this his specter actually has a coat that resembles that of a military uniform which may hint he was enlisted or joined to get away, or maybe it’s just a coincidence. Either way that would explain why his collar looks a bit like a belt, with him utilizing what little he had.

I looked up a timeline of British wars of the 19th century and considering he hadn’t yet joined the military forces in the flashback then any war between 1923 and maybe like 1953 latest would work. With this we can narrow it down to WW2, Greek civil war, or and Malayan emergency(which is a BIGG stretch so for the sake of damm the chances are real low I’ll exclude the Malayan emergency).

Because of how he looked in the flashback I doubt this flashback can from more then 2-3 years before his death and the earliest war I found was WW2 so the earliest the time period could be is 1939. Also just from a writers perspective WW2 is more well known and therefore more interesting to write about for a character so I presume he’s probably from WW2, but possibly not.

With said information the memory we saw of Pluto was likely 1939-1948. Which means Pluto DEFINITELY WITHOUT A DOUBT came from the 40’s

Here you go! Episode 25. His spectre is for those who wished to run away from society and/or prove society wrong about them. The fact he is a domesticated cat is quite strange as most of his specters kind are wild predators. He died relieved and by being hung which hints to his issues being related to feeling loved, longing for a home but ultimately just being a stray.

His specters coat has a jacket that matches what a ww1 jacket looks like, so it’s possible he lived during ww1 and was sent out to war and just wanted to go back home to his family, but knew if he did he would probably be shamed for it and named a coward.

This is only using info from his specter so take everything with a grain of salt.

I'm aware of the story Pluto is based on. However, most of Nevermore is only inspired by the works of Edgar Allan Poe. This is pretty apparent with the way it's handling "The Cask of Amantillado". I won't go into too many details because it's a spoiler for the fast pass episodes, but while the way it plays out is similar there are a lot of very notable differences.

I do think there's credence to the "Pluto was murdered" theory, but while he's got obvious self confidence issues and anxiety he doesn't really read to me like someone who's suffered such a large amount of abuse. It's possible that he just hasn't remembered much about his life so we'll see it more later, but it seems more like there was probably emotional abuse going on rather than physical.

Now that I’m thinking about it your probably right about the abuse, he doesn’t have any form of scarring we can see, though he covers up most of his body I don’t think there’s any form of scarring underneath. But I think with the way his coat looks might be some form of hinting towards how he might’ve had a lot of hand me downs in life, which is a BIGGG stretch, but ya know the coat IS big on him.

With the way he’s acting about Plutos disappearance(this is also a stretch and mostly a gut feeling) that Pluto has seen somebody disappear before when he was alive… it could easily just be he’s worried for his friend but he’s just a lot more frantic compared to everybody else, and a lot more urgent too. While some are trying to find him Pluto seems to have it planted in his head the best that there’s a time limit to finding him.

And I mostly believe Pluto merely commited suicide but I just have to leave the potential of murder open since we can’t prove otherwise quite yet.

Finally, using my own personal experience slightly, when we first met him in the maze his actions gave off a “if I don’t do anything I can’t be in the way” vibe to me. I also struggle with this sometimes where I just feel like I’ll get in more trouble trying to do something then if I just let the chaos happen, stay out the sight of whoever’s mad so I can stay off their mind. When Pluto finally gets a chance to shine its with 2 main things:

A. The tightrope where he realizes he HAS to do something in order to not be abandoned

B. It was brought up by accident he knew what the words mean and made a conscious decision not to say so previously feeling like there was no point, adding on to my theory of the “doing nothing won’t help but it won’t cause problems, and I’d rather do nothing then cause problems” mentality on this kid!

I'm sure he could be hiding scarring, but I feel like if he had been abused to that point he would be more avoidant to physical contact even subconsciously (much like his story counterpart), which he very much isn't.

I think him being so frantic over Duke's disappearance is mostly because Lenore and Duke appear to be Pluto's first real friends, and the two had already become close judging by the fact that Duke was going to walk him to class. Also, while everyone assumed Duke was playing hooky, Pluto knew the entire time that Montresor had done something to him so of course he was more worried about it.

Also, I don't think it was as much trying not to be in the way as it was that he's uncomfortable interacting with new people. When they trade him for Morella, Prospero outright says that Pluto basically stuck to him because they were roommates and didn't interact with anyone else. He also assumed that the other two knew what the phobias were already so he didn't know he needed to say anything in the first place.

I just read a thing about how people seem to ignore Pluto freaking out about Dukes disappearance and listens to everyone else EXCEPT him. They brushed it off as a writing issue

But this seems to happen quite a bit.

In episode 17 when Pluto expresses a want to not go through the trial instead of asking what exactly he’s scared of Duke proceeds to practically self project(by that I mean say what he would want to see the eyes as) on Pluto by telling him to image he’s on a big stage.when Pluto says it makes things worse Duke immediately gives and just expresses how Pluto is annoying, and how it was better when Pluto wasn’t around. They then proceed to forcibly drag him across.

In the next room Duke immediately assumed Pluto will be useless and TRYS TO ABANDON HIM!!!! Pluto literally has to convince them he knows how to do this before he can be dropped in. Lenore admits she underestimated Pluto and he’s immediately happy over it ignoring fact HE WAS NEARLY DITCHED FOR HAVING FEELINGS

Nothing of importance regarding Pluto being emotionally neglected until episode 18. After finding out about how Pluto studies Etymology they get frustrated they weren’t told sooner(understandable) then he admits he can’t swim AND FINALLY they tell him it’s ok instead being peaved off about his existence. YAYY FOR ACTUALLY COMFORTING PLUTO 👏👏👏

Pluto analysis ( backstory and how he died )

From the episode 17 we find out pluto has a fear of staring.

Each of the fears in this episode seemed to relate to a characters backstory ( most likely trying to Reed jog their memories of how they died, essentially helping them discover their spectres )

In his fear part, they are in what looks like a fancy neighborhood, where everyone is evil, and always judging.

I also think the way the transformation transitions from human to spectres for the first time, it is similar to how they died / how they were killed

For example, ada was stabbed in the chest and fell to the ground because her lover killed her

When she was transitioning, she fell to the ground on her knees the exact same way.

When Anabelle lee was transitioning, it made a scene of her being shot in the back ( on the night before her wedding if im correct )

When pluto transformed, he had a noose around his neck and it pulled up, cutting off air flow and quickly after breaking his neck.

His spectres is a house cat ( being a house animal is rare for this kind of spectres )

So here is what i think his backstory is :

He was born and raised in wealth. Nice neighborhood, so nice people? Wrong.

Pluto has always been different due to probably not being as sociable, and seen as "weird". Which only made things worse.

Plutos parents always just told him to be normal. Dont be weird. Dont mess it up. Why cant you be like other kids?

Other kids bullied him.

Relentlessly bullied him.

Their parents judged him

His parents judged him.

He was hated.

He hated himself.

What i think started all of this is he was born with something wrong with his eye, that's why he covers it up. His parents told him to but eventually he did it also out of insecurity.

He stayed in his house most of the time unless he absolutely needed to go out.

Either in his room or wandering around his home.

Also might i add this :

Pluto is based of Edgar Allan Poes short story about an Plutos love for cats until he starts abusing them

Pluto is that cat hes abusing.

Pluto is depressed

Pluto is self harming himself.

In the poem, pluto increasingly becomes more agitated with the cats behavior

( Pluto is getting more angry with life, and with himself.)

In the poem, pluto in a sudden fit of rage, ties a noose around the cats neck and hangs it from a tree, where it dies.

You understand what im saying.

Thank you so much for making this. I suck at theory making so my ideas were… conspiracies basically 💀👍

But his specters jacket is the same as a ww1 jacket, and he is shown to be good at agility(knowing how to cross a tightrope and his specter having super speed are hints to this)

So I like the possibility he was sent to war and injured(probably what happened to his eye) and people judged him for “quitting” the war and seeing him as week. On top of this he suffered trauma from said war having barely made it out alive on top of everything you said. He could have also committed suicide while serving which would explain why his weird leash noose thing looks an awful lot like a belt. He had to make do with what he had and hung himself with a belt instead of the usual noose.
