Hi guys… it’s me again…
Here I am again…
So if you’ve ever seen the theories people make about all the rouges reflecting exaggerated traits of Batman, and I don’t often see Hatter or if I see Hatter I don’t always agree with it, so here’s my perspective on what he’s supposed to represent
In my opinion, Jervis represents escapism. Bruce Wayne does use escapism via The Batman, out of a desire to protect people, but also to control a situation that he was previously helpless to. He becomes a hero in a way to escape reality of a dire criminal landscape in his home city.
Likewise, Jervis uses escapism into Alice in Wonderland to escape his lonely, drab life of unexciting and unfulfilling work, as well as severe social isolation that ended up driving him mad. He escapes into the Hatter because not only does the hatter have a permanent companion in the March Hare, his life is exciting and unpredictable and he is important in the story. The Hatter even looks like him. It’s everything Jervis wants to be, and everything he doesn’t have in the everyday life. So naturally he clings to the persona and ‘becomes’ him in a resolve to fix all the issues he sees within his own experience.
Both characters use a persona to escape, but the reason Jervis is a warning to Bruce is because he cannot draw a line between reality and his fantasy of being the Hatter. The obsession with control over his life extends to his adaptation of mind control and eventually forcing people to adhere to his perspective of the world by violating their sense of choice. In turn he’s become a selfish, crazed, amoral lunatic who doesn’t care about the wills of other people, only really that they can be bent to his own because of how lost in his own reality he is.
If Bruce lost himself in the role of The Batman eventually it would become selfish, and he would lose his actual empathic reason to save others. Jervis is a direct example of that, and has fallen into the temptation of creating his ‘perfect world’ by ruining lives and destroying the current one

Rogues and research papers
Saw a post by doxxed0367 about how Jervis Tetch/ the Mad Hatter had been researching the brain for years and probably published research papers
And this couldn't leave my mind :
A lot of the Rogues have diplomas that require research and as someone who's currently in a master's degree, it made me laugh because I was imagining being a student there and having to avoid to quote that one person because they became a rogue.
Because as someone's who's done a bit of research, I've noticed patterns such as :
1- the person did a fundamental discovery which led to them being quoted often BUT their moral actions do not matter because they're fundamental anyway and cannot be avoided in the construction of the field or of your research.
2- the work wasn't fundamentally new, it was just a rework or linked to topics not previously discussed.
In the case that the person is morally okay, then, yes it will be discussed. If it's not the case, well, there's a chance people will find the work replaceable.
3- the person and their works are bad and best avoided. By ''bad'' here i specifically mean that it was either conceived poorly and could be taken as problematic or that the work is problematic in itself due to the ideas conveyed.
(for instance, last year I've worked on reinterpretations of Alice in Wonderland and some papers I came across were clearly racist when talking about non-Europeans adaptations)
4- Someone can genuinely choose to work on someone else's work because they like their ideas, and possibly them, if there's known information about the author's life.
5- There's a consensus that this person is/was bad and most of the time their theories are used it's to dismantle them.
Anyway, just imagine being a student in Gotham and having to quote one of the rogues because their work falls under these umbrellas. I think the worst would be 4 or 5 since
4- means that you have to admit that you like the rogue and their ideas and possibly make you seem as dangerous
5- doing your thesis or work that way could get you killed by said rogue.
Just imagine being in science where you probably have to read and maybe quote Dr Pamela Isley if anything you're doing is related to plants, Harleen Quinzel and, way worse, Jonathan Crane, for psychiatry and Jervis Tetch for neuroscience. And that's just a few.
(also imagine doing your work on the rogues or what they've done. And thinking you're dead at any moment because of what you said. I also feel like some would congratulate you for using their research too)
(I'm also pretty sure the rogues are a constant source of academic research in Gotham and in this version of America in general. Maybe even in the world ? )
