yall recommend small unproblematic musicians, youtubers, artists, etc because i am very tired.
a lot of y’all need to hear this ( especially minors ) but: celebrity worship in no shape or form is okay. all of your faves ( and yes, i mean all of them are! ) are not needed and do not care about you! stop projecting on to these people and stop using actors and musicians/bands as coping mechanisms!
stop defending them for shitty behavior and actually stop paying attention to these rich powerful people. they only care about your money, not about you, or anything going on in the world.
stop writing fanfiction about them and projecting on to them. they are NOT your friend, and will never be.
and on a similar note, you should be EXTREMELY critical of all of the media you consume. all of it, and i mean all of it. steven universe, mao mao, hunter x hunter, the adventure zone, spider man, pokemon, etc too!
and yes, even smaller indie bands/musicians, actors, cartoons, etc.
and like i’ve said, stop using these things as a coping mechanism, they prey on younger people on purpose.
you should not be consuming these things, especially now. you should have healthier coping mechanisms, and should be finding better things to watch, listen or to read. support smaller muscians, artists, writers, etc! and make your own art and things to appreciate!
and fandom/stan culture is dangerous, especially for younger people. critical thinking is non-existent and people are always up their fave’s asses when they get away with things without critique! it is unhealthy, for many reasons, and it’s time to stay away.
but don’t project on to them and worship them. do not put people on pedestals and make them uncomfortable. be critical at all times. non problematic things things to like exist, but expecting these things to change will never happen.
the only reason why celebrities are even still worshipped is due to the fact that that’s how they are marketed. this also applies to other kinds of media too.
if you really want someone to appreciate, actively support community activists. and do note, they are NOT celebrities. do not project on to them and treat them like your friend.
celebrities and your favorite pieces of media are all very problematic!!! stop consuming these things and letting these people and things escape accountability and critique and improvement!!!
why not just let people be happy, not police everything they enjoy, and let them determine what’s right and wrong for themselves? Is that really such a revolutionary idea?
this is the exact problem with the whole “ let people enjoy things “ thing. media should be criticized, especially when it’s targeted towards younger people. all pieces of media should be heavily criticized, and i am critical of celebrities, books, tv shows, movies, etc. it’s hard to leave that mindset, but it’s for the better and it’s healthier.
i fell for this stuff so many times and i have realized i am better and healthier without it.
like you’d rather kids uncritically get into things like whatever problematic musician is popular right now and k*ll*ng st*lk*ng without them realizing how bad it is for them?
there’s so many artists and content creators who are struggling because people would rather consume what’s hot and big rather than people who are making non-problematic content that’s safe and way better to enjoy.
but i see you are a fandom blog, and i most likely can’t help you, but mindlessly enjoying things without critique ain’t it.
I understand most of your points, it’s just that I’ve never seen someone take such an aggressive stance on the issue. I agree that children are frequently exposed to negative influence, but it’s extremely heavy handed to say that everyone should be critical of everything, all the time. It’s a cynical way to live, and for someone who is mentally ill (like myself) constantly worrying about whether the thing I enjoy is problematic or not can be draining and upsetting.
Fandom culture is often labeled as toxic, and it often is! I’m not disagreeing. But I know that I grew up in it and managed to not get involved in any drama by thinking critically and deciding for myself what was problematic. That didn’t mean I stopped enjoying the fandoms I was involved in. That didn’t mean I constantly worried about the people behind the media I consumed.
I’m not sure I’ll be able to help you either, as you seem to be a blog dedicated to complaining about the things you hate. I only had to comment on this post because I thought it was interesting that you tagged a few specific pieces of media (which was how I found this post in the first place). Do you have specific grudges against these pieces of media? Are you looking for someone to argue with you? Nevertheless, it’s an interesting discussion.
and about that last part, i am critiquing the media i have heard about, from what i’ve seen/heard on here and on twitter. they were tagged because they are popular and are some of the things people will watch/listen to without critique and will mindlessly enjoy them.
people are not aware of this, and should find better things to read/watch/listen to, without forming unhealthy parasocial relationships with them, and will find them to be better, and will form better attachments to these things.

i am mentally ill myself, and i realized that not being critical led me to participating in unhealthy behaviors, and depending of media/celebrities as a coping mechanism.
i will be truthful, i have fell for it, and i never really realized how bad these things are, and liked them uncritically while ignoring smaller artists who make even better content, and i still see people like this on twitter, tumblr, etc and it isn’t right.
being critical all the time isn’t bad. the fact that younger people and adults use these things as coping mechanisms and will defend them even when they turn out to be super bad should be talked about, not mindlessly enjoyed. that’s how we end up with better, and healthier things to consume.
i’ve fell for fandoms so many times, even though the red flags were everywhere, from when i was way younger on my first tumblr, to a year ago when i joined a new fandom ( + some older ones ). they are were extremely toxic, and critical thinking is non-existent. fandom culture goes without critique on twitter, where it’s actually supported and praised while failing to realize the negative influence it has on younger people ( aka the b*s army, anime fandoms, etc ) and also failing to tell younger people to critique these things and hold them accountable.
especially today, i feel like younger people should be supporting struggling artists who no one pays attention to, support them, and get their ideas out there, because i am sure that they have/make way better content than what’s currently out there. like, instagram, twitter, soundcloud, bandcamp, etc has so many artists people never praise or talk about, and it should be more common, while also being more critical of them and not relying on them as coping mechanisms and going back to celebrity worship.
that’s because these artists aren’t conventionally attractive, don’t make what everyone else makes, they are activists in their communities, and critique the industry that they are in/want to be in heavily.
or even, people should be looking up to activists instead. doing these things means that people will find better things and people to appreciate better content.
i think critiquing everything all the time should be promoted, and alongside it is healthier, safe, and unproblematic content and artists, but call them out when they inevitably mess up, especially when even smaller artists seem to be prone to that.

hey @ billie eilish stans/defenders, read this!!! and my callout post abt her!!: https://libcom.org/library/billie-eilish-woke-washing-highland-park-gentrification
call me a stereotypical teenage girl or a "fake emo" or whatever but billie eilish's music is actually good and really soothing and some of yall are just mean towards mainstream artists and their fanbases cause you think youll get internet brownie points or that you're special and quirky for it
nah, we don’t like her because she steals from black culture, has a blaccent, wrote nasty things on twitter/her old tumblr, supports people like xxxtentaction, and uses the r word
since no ones gonna bring it up:
billie eilish nearly said the r word in a live, but it’s in her vocabulary so its just as bad, has been stealing from back culture for years, has called rap and hip hop fake and criticizes the genre, supports people like xxxtentacion, sabrina claudio, justin bieber, etc and hasn’t learned her lesson or apologized for her behavior. and don’t forget about the wish you were gay situation and her tweets/old tumblr
meanwhile her fans are literal children who look up to her when they’re copying and taking on her behavior.
stop idolizing celebrities who do this, stop letting children listen/look up to them, and stop letting them get away with it.
im super disappointed in swsh, like, how do you let it get this bad? mario, ssbu, fortnite, minecraft are all good and working titles on the switch and this happens. like the designs are cute and i know the TCG is gonna be great but geez. i was looking forward ti transferring my usum/sumo guys over and wondertrading but i guess not. :(
also: actual kids and teens getting into fandon and stanning is bad. like its inherently bad especially for their mental health and person and im sorta surprised this hasnt been brought up?? like theres so many better things to do instead of blindly worshipping mediocre celebrities and media yall
ar*ana gr*nde and b*llie e*lish are #relatable as a gimmick and dont give two shits about yall fans in the slightest and are also pieces of shits lmao
bongwater eyeligma dont seem that bad idk but im still :/
thosr freaks w the rick and morty and simpsons edit pfps r rly gonna be loud today huh
something tells me wonder trading isnt a thing anymore :/
unpopular opinion: tbh i hope sword and shield is a smaller gen in terms of pokemon. like i want like 100+ pokemon and not like 150+ new guys. but when next gen comes, i want that much
imagine catching the new corgi pokemon and not naming it ein smh
couldnt be me
i really, really , REALLY hope wondertrading is still a thing in sword and shield bc i wanna do a wonderlocke on shield
