They look like a duo that dropped exactly one studio album of some of the most experimental woodwind and jazz combo youve ever heard in your life

Every look ICONIC! Our lady can NOT flop!
It was kind of interesting to me that out of all the people in our training group, the ones that were the quickest to form social bonds were the people from way out in the country and the city people just kind of quietly kept to themselves.
But I was definitely accepted as one of the bumpkins.
Oh! This is actually an example of Rural vs Urban manners.
In rural/less densely populated areas, the polite thing is to offer people your time and social energy which is why country people will talk your ear off at the slightest acquaintence- itās kind of lonely when you have to make an effort to see people, so you Make An Effort ā¢
In Urban/Densely populated areas, youāre meeting people whether you want to or not, because you are physically close to each other constantly. So the Polite Thing there is to kind of ignore other people and keep strictly to business, so youāre not imposing upon thier (probably already drained) soical spoons.
The city folks will warm right up to you once they get to know you well enough to know that talking to you wonāt piss you off.
I grew up rural and live in the SF Bay Area now, and this is exactly how it is.
Appropriate city behavior is about *efficiency*, creating the least friction possible in every interaction because everyone has somewhere to be and is trying to pretend they donāt have strangers in their personal bubble *all day long*.
In SF, chatting with the bank teller a second longer than necessary is rude AF because there are 10 people in line and the teller is running behind and you are inconviencing *everyone*. They will deal with 1000 customers today and they genuinely donāt have it in them to form a friendly relationship with you.
In the little forest where I grew up you could stop your car in the middle of a one lane street to chat up a friend on the sidewalk. Any other cars would just go around you. There wasnāt much traffic, it was fine. If youāre one of 50 people the bank teller is gonna see today and thereās no line, itās actually nice to ask how their day has been and commiserate about the roadwork at the single downtown traffic light.
City & country folks are operating under very different pressures and both are ārightā, but it can be hard for city people to remember how to justā¦shoot the shit with strangers.
the thing about modern suburbia is that it is the worst of both worlds in this regard
I was walking around the neighborhood one day and suddenly came across this tree with a branch the formed a spiral

remember when you were 10 and you would hang out with your friends in order to Look At The Computer together like you went to their house and experienced the information superhighway together. and then leave
How fucking old are you people?

You see, there used to be a time (not all that long ago) when being offline was the default. And going online was the rare and wonderful thing that we (briefly) enjoyed.
It even came with happy modem noises.
They weren't happy noises.
They were polite and reasonable noises! The sound of protocol being followed! Negotiation and compromise!
The box would scream
#they were happy noises bc the computer was exited to be used!!#modern computers don't have mouths to eat cds so they yearn to scream ans just go rocket mode FSHHHHHHHHH
It has no mouth and it must scream?
Iām very excited for my latest craft experiment, where I rhythmically slap sale rank oil paint onto a canvas and I see how long it takes to dry so that I can finally touch the paint textures I stare at so longingly in museums. 12 hours in, still wet. I am beginning to think this might take longer than I thought which you can imagine is quite a burden, as I am absolutely horned up to rub this paint.
You guys sound like you know what youāre talking about but Iām gonna touch it every twenty minutes just to be sure
Iāve put this canvas to age in the basement like a fine wine, along another recent masterpiece of mine āI put the paint on me hand and I slap the canvas like a bongoā
Paint slapped on 6/9, as of 6/22 (I mean actually it was a couple days ago but I didnāt fully check the dryness then so I canāt be sure):
It is rubbery feeling and the peaks of paint move when you flick them. The texture is not at ALL what I expected tbh and it makes me excited to try a different experiment, thick brush strokes, you know, those mad thicc ones that swirl real good
Hereās an additional shot with my coffee cup for a further sense of scale so people will understand that these canvases are small and therefore stop sending me asks about my supposedly gorilla sized hands, you bastards, you rotten bastards scared of the hands your minds gave me
I donāt know shit about art but isnāt this like a great example of art that pushes the boundaries of what art is? Like youāve got your canvas with paint on it, but your reason for putting the paint there is totally different than why most people put paint on stuff. Itās like a study on texture or something.
Agreed, this is really cool and also I love the fact that you really wanted to touch some paint, so you just went out and bought a bunch of paint and made your own painting for touching purposes. Thatās striking me as really really cool right now for reasons I canāt entirely articulate.Ā
For reference: Really thick paint on a piece of art is called impasto. Another really fun way to do it is with a painting knife: you can make each stroke SUPER SMOOTH like cake icing, but with visible, touchable texture between the strokes.
More impasto:
art by Jan Ironside, who does THICK IMPASTO FLOWERS THAT I SO WANT TO TOUCH
You LITERALLY sat down to watch paint dryā¦
Museums should have stuff like this on display JUST so you can touch it. With a sign like,Ā āFeel me up! I wonāt alarm!ā
make good art
Only thing about thick impasto is that the paint can get a bit sharp sometimes. Like, Iāve cut my hand on dried impasto paint because the paint stroke was that pointed. -.-;
Every reply on this post is delightful
sorry this is not relevant at all but ive seen this post many times and EVERY SINGLE TIMEĀ ā stop sending me asks about my supposedly gorilla sized hands, you bastards, you rotten bastards scared of the hands your minds gave meā makes me spiral ive never laughed so hard thank you
This entire thread is wonderful. What better reason to create art than pure human curiosity? š„°
What else would you do at the dentist?

WHERE ARE THEY GOOOOOING
ON A FAMILY VACATIOOOOON
The last picture is, in fact, a duckling! The parents lost their baby and adopted an orphaned duckling and raised it.
FAMILY VACATION
Okay so like, I canāt get over this adopted baby duckling. In relation to loons, ducklings are an r-selected species. Like, thereās the understanding that some baby ducklings get eaten by turtles and so they lay big batches of eggs to make up for it.
But loons are k-selected and invest a ton of time into their babies. They only have one or two babies, both parents take care of them, and they ride around on their parents so they donāt become turtle food.
This is like, the best taken care of duckling in the world. They are gonna be such good parents, even though their kid is a weird vegan who canāt swim underwater.
I love these birds š
