I am alive. Still. 30. Halfway to death? I forgot to stop. Halfway through that second decade. It just kinda. Fell by the wayside. It fell to books. It fell to music. It fell to games, and kind strangers in classes, and a little bow on the front. And so I didn't, I kept going another 10 years. I fell in love. And again. And again. Caught glimpses of myself in the reflections of other which pulled personality to the surface. Learned how to find those who pulled better things forth. 6.5 years of therapy. Starting to be people's first experience in polyamory and learning about how Horrendous that is so often. Looking around each year and realizing the last year's us were pretty stupid, pretty consistently. Finding new tenants in our head every year or blowing the dust off some when we're finally painting again. Having people fall for me, over and Over and over again. To be someone so fucking Amazing that people reach out over half a decade just to try to be friends on tiktok or something small like that. And then they fall again. Cause I'm just kinda. Me. Again, and again. People have to actively stay away from me otherwise they just keep Feeling such things towards me. Starting up actual ass Hobbies that take Hours and Hours from our weekends and cause us to do shit in wildly ambient taverns with incredibly delicate little fuckers crossing the table in front of us while we eat poutine. Learning how to build yourself up, learning you always have the possibility to fall. Learning you're always going to get back up. And now I have a home. I have a house, Jesus Christ I have a Home. I have three people who are over the moon about me and each one tastes different. I have people who want to plan events and do fondue and turn me into a twitching spasming mess or turn into origami under me and who take me out to get my favorite books and bring me downtown to share in Japanese street food and who cling on to my jacket in shitty dive bars and who pray to gods the thanks and Love they have in their soul for meeting me. I have a family. I have people to pluck me along the melody of this life and Gods is it beating a staccato on the inside of my chest I am Marching with determination to the peaceful waters and warm fires of this Home. I'm happy. Almost 3 weeks to sit down and do my damn birthday writing because I'm so fucking busy but I'm Happy. I did it because I kept walking. I'm going to keep walking. And in another 10 years I'll look around and find I still have a family. It will look different, of that I'm certain. But they will be here. And I will be lucky to have them. And things will be better! By The Gods I will Make Them Better. Trite, yet true, To This Day: It Gets Better.

I feel you in there, trying to wiggle this into some kind of I Don't Deserve This. You can be lucky And deserve it. You have so many people in your life telling you they see you working as hard as you can and that you deserve good. The harder you work the luckier you get, because you are Loved. And it is not from air they pulled this love. It's easy to love you. From the things you say to the precedent you set. You might have inherited love from them but you have Shone that love into the world so clearly. Maybe scratchedly, maybe foggy at times. But I can say honestly you have had a positive effect on all, even the ones who raised you. You deserve this because you're lovely. You deserve this because they love you. Even when you have nothing to offer. Even when you're spent and used up and being torn up at the seams and have been for Months. Your worth is not dependent on what you can give. It's not even dependent on others Deciding you're worthy. You just are. You just are.

A nerve ending doesn't die until you choose for it to die. It can suffer, sure. Be pulled and bent out of shape, pinched between an uncomfortable situation and an impossible choice. But a nerve ending doesn't die until you choose to let it die. It makes sense to let various nerve endings die, all throughout your life you're faced with disappointment. Embarrassment. Anger. Dampening a nerve feels like the responsible thing to do, to make it so you're less reactive in a world that's a simmering vat of chemicals trying to dissolve and ignite you all at once. But it doesn't Die, until you choose to let it die. You ask for something, you reach out, you take a risk and it doesn't pan out for this that or the other thing. Yeah, that's fine, robust minds will refute a pattern of one and try again. But once it becomes a pattern, once the trend has established itself and the establishment is poor then such similarly robust minds will want to protect themselves. Don't reach out, don't take a risk, don't give it a chance to hurt. Living is giving it a chance to hurt. So many parts of relationships and stagnation of self and relationships are simply refuting a chance for it to hurt. When every shred of logic and evolution are begging you to choose protection to Live is to refute them. This doesn't mean make poor decisions, keep running back into pain headlong until you're black and blue. It means have a standard, have an acceptable standard of pain. Mark it every year, every month even. How much pain can I achieve today. Give life every chance to throw you to the street so every now and again you land better off than you started. Relationships stagnate when you refuse to try anymore. When your brain and thresholds together refute to keep this routine of pain, that is when a relationship dies. And you can choose for it not to. You can choose, in little ways, every day, to not let it die. To be that one stubborn asshole who invites a friend out for tea every sunday evening even though they've never taken up on it in the decade you've known them. You can choose to live, a hundred times a day in a hundred different moments you choose to live. Be aware, choose to live.
