okay time and setting are very wibbly-wobbly on purpose for fun and games but let's assume VSMP is set vaguely in the late 1800s/early 1900s, in keeping with Dracula and other classic gothic lit. Let's say 1897 (Dracula's publication year) just to have a solid number.
If Owen is from ~200 years before that, it means he's from the late 1600s. Louis XIV, the Sun King, is reigning in France. The Salem Witch Trials are taking place in North America. Shakespeare's plays were less than a hundred years old.
And if Scott is from ~600 years ago, that puts him from around 1250-1300CE (at least as far as when he was last active). Genghis Khan is conquering the steppes. Notre-Dame Cathedral is brand new. Robert the Bruce is a baby. Le Mort d'Arthur hasn't been written yet. The Canterbury Tales are either brand new or coming soon to a broadside near you. Also he's Scottish.
What I'm saying is -- their dialog should be hysterically incompatible.
Legundo [skritching away with a fountain pen]: The tale shall surely seem to saner men, in saner times, to be one of nightmarish proportions, and my descriptions of wolves and poison and blood, of ghosts and demons shall not recommend me well to my peers. Be assured, however, that I am resolved to keep an accurate accounting of my days, that in future times I may look upon these words and perhaps find some sense herein.
Owen: I warrant you thinketh otherwise, but I wish no company -- neither faire nor foule. Had I but died an hour before thy arrival thence, I had lived a blessed time.
Scott: A! blynd folk full off all foly! Haid yhe umbethoucht yhow enkrely, Quhat perell to yhow mycht apper, Yhe had nocht wrocht on this maner!
I am begging someone to write a fic where the gang shows up to Oakhurst and literally no one can understand Scott and everyone starts calling Owen Shakespeare.
