i have become obsessed with the idea of him
Q&A with Serizawa Katsuya (from the fanbook!!!)
credits: Muzđ§đ on Twitter
Q1. What are your grades at night school? What's your best subject?
A. I'm best at language and history. My grades aren't bad, but I'm not trying to compete with anyone.
Q2. How did you end up at Spirits and Such?
A "If you have nowhere to go, how about you work here?' Seems like other people got that offer too, but I guess I'm the only one who took it.
Q3. What do you usually talk about with Reigen?
A. Things we liked eating at the konbini recently and so on. He often asks me about what's going on at school, or about games and anime that are good for passing time.
Q4. Do you plan to keep working at the consulting office? A. It's rare for me to get hired, so I'll keep working there as long as my employment period lasts. I don't really know what I'm capable of doing, so it's enough that I have a job I can do.
Q5. Do you stay awake for New Year's or do you sleep when the time comes?
A. Awake.
Q6. Who did you talk to most when you were in Claw?
A. The President and Shou, I guess. They have very different personalities, but they treat everyone equally. I'm the kind of person other people usually look down on, so I can tell.
Q7. What's your alcohol tolerance? Do you go out when you're free from work?
A. I don't drink. Reigen doesn't either. We went out for drinks once, and we basically licked the surface of our beers before we started going madly at the edamame. Actually, Reigen fell asleep in the store just like that.
Q8. Serizawa-san, you're reliable and trusted by your boss. Give some advice to the rest of us working adults!
A. When you're just starting out, it's enough just to be able to say hello, thank you, and apologize! But doing these correctly is actually rather difficult.
Q9. What did you do with your first paycheck?
A. Reigen-san lent me money for my suit, so I used it to pay him back.
Q10. Is there anything you wish Reigen-san would stop doing?
A. At first, I thought he kept farting loudly and with no hesitation. Even if he's my boss, I'd hope that he can at least control the volume. It seems like that was actually the sound of the chair being in poor condition and rubbing against the floor, though, so hope he can fix the chair. Also, wish he'd stop joking around when there's dangerous evil spirits in front of him. Kageyama-kun says those aren't jokes, but if that's the case, there's really some situations I don't understand.
Q11. What's the most useless information you learned from Reigen?
A. He said there was a secret method to eating pizza without burning your mouth and then immediately burned his mouth. Also, there's supposed to be some trick to throwing salt around...? My school exams are coming soon and I'd like to remove those memories from my memory, even though I respect him very much.
@officialreigenfacts reigen, how do you do it?
Hah? Oh, the rasengan?
Itâs all about chakra control and rotation. Please be mindful of it
Ah⌠thatâs not quite what I meant. To specify- how are you so ugly?

What people say about Mob in Mob psycho:
"Masterpiece writing, the way they show his emotions building up and exploding is so clever, I like this subversion that the explosion of emotions serves as character growth moments as well as impact in storytelling. I sleep well knowing they can't ruin Mob psycho like they ruined OPM."
Has anybody ever hated the depiction of Mob's power being emotions? Honest question.
Then people about Saitama also showing explosion of emotions being a source of power:
"Flanderization of Saitama ("power of friendship/emotions", goofy generic shonen protagonist)"
Idk man it's almost like it's the same writer. MC bottling emotions.
What people love in Mob psycho, cannot apply to OPM. It confuses me.
Is it because of the demographic? That we can't have nice things in OPM cuz its supposed to be cynical adult version? Or because it's a subversion that he can feel emotions and should feel them like humans normally do? Or because they stop relating with the mc because he shows emotions?
Idk man, but I'd expect OPM to have more themes from Mob psycho now that Saitama is expressing more emotions too. That's just how ONE rolls. Emotions are going to be basis for character growth moments, believe it or not.
They're piss-poor at analysing stories, having slept through literature classes, and they're too close to the story in that they've not taken a step back and reread to see the themes.
And one of the worst mistakes I see made is to think One-Punch Man a mere parody. The trouble with categorization is that it's only as useful as long as what you're categorizing fits in the bucket you're stuffing it in: when it doesn't, your understanding is messed up.
OPM has a lot of parodic elements but it's also partially a satire and in sending up shonen tropes, a lot of the time, it's done by playing them absolutely straight -- and then looking at the consequences.
So, Saitama is a huge romantic and a great fan of shonen manga. He's long wished he could have the experience detailed in many of his favourite manga:
And he got it, right down to the power of friendship. Only, it wasn't an exciting, uplifting experience but the most horrid, obscene, senseless, dehumanising thing he'd never wish on his worst enemy. He lost everything of value and came incredibly close to losing his very humanity. If he had not forgotten, he'd be having severe PTSD right now.
Maybe the not-actual readers will understand better if the anime director does a good job of actually conveying the wrongness of the situation and doesn't allow it to be lost in the spectacle of the fight.
Learn to make better wishes, Saitama!

feels like we only go backward mp100
This is actually it. Like this is the point of the show
Season 1 mob was without social connections besides reigen who had guaranteed that his moral presence in mobâs life would help him control himself. Mobâs fixation on nonviolence and kindness was not a legit ethical standpoint but rather a barrier he deployed in order to protect those around him from what he believed was an inherent danger within himself. His pacifism was a defense mechanism and not a legitimate tool for empowerment. We can see this in how insecure and unable to explain these morals he was during the beginning, how easily moral opposition unsettled him because HE HIMSELF didnât truly know enough about what he was preaching to provide rebuttal, only enough to know that it kept others and especially ritsu out of harms way.
It is only through his interactions with the people around him that he begins to construct his own perspective on life, that which amalgamates the stubborn altruism reigen preaches (because reigen thinks he understands what mobâs going through, and gives advice and offers platitudes in his delusional empathy) and the critical messages that characters such as mogami offer. I think itâs really interesting to look at the season 1 finale and season 2 finale with this in mind; in the former we see mob drop all responsibility onto reigen to solve the situation because reigen is someone he trusts to make smart decisions and consequently replicates without thinking for himself (manifesting in 1000% gratitude); in the latter, however, mob brushes off reigenâs offers to help because he has morally matured and wonât be lost in a morally compromising situation (eg his clash with toichirou) without anotherâs guidance. This isnât a comment on whichever was the âcorrectâ decision but rather a celebration of mobâs character development
Mob psycho 100 is a story of empowerment, about choosing to be kind in the face of the worlds horrors not because of naivety but because of experience.
why does he always laugh like a villain
my baby
I just think its very sweet that mob was the motivation reigen needed to quit smoking <3 so I made a comic about it
