I considered this too! We dont actually know anything about Adriel and where he came from and what he can do or has done. Nothing we can 100% trust at least. If the OCS's 1000 year old mission can all be based on a lie, why couldnt anything else?
So in Areala's memory, Adriel comes out of a portal that may or may not be hellish, with a tarask hot on his heels. He kills it and shoves the halo in Areala's back, and from then on there's demons, wraiths and tarasks and who knows what else coming to Earth and trying to get the halo (tho we dont know that there werent wraiths before. There just wasnt anyone who could see them)
So. Who could say what the truth is? Everything Adriel said has been a lie, and it actually seems like the place Adriel came from and the place Reya came from and the place the Halo came from and the tarasks and everything. Maybe there's not a heaven and a hell. Maybe they're both the same place, and everything good and bad came from there.
(Not quite what OP said but here are my hopefully not too rambly thougts)
@foulbearobservation ^^. i also think it makes adriel’s vendetta aggainst reya and his sense of ownership over the halo make a lot more sense, because if the halo is from hell, and reya isn’t but you are, you’re clearly a lot more entitled to it than her even if it isn’t actually yours (adriel’s possible line of thought)
we know that the ocs knows little about the halo, and they’re just looking on with rose colored glasses, assuming it’s from god and that it’s actions are because of godly reasons.
which makes sense because the ocs is still an organization in and under the catholic church and not only have they been around since the crusades, their literal founder was actively participating in the crusades (notorious for being good) on the behalf of Christianity
As for evidence, it’s the color coding and the similarity of powers.
wraiths: red - orange
tarasks (earth): fiery orange-yellow portal, orange-yellow-red core, mouth and eyes
lilith: red, orange-yellow
adriel: black, orange-yellow
adriel’s crosses and the look of the earth when he puts his final “plague” into place:
Compare that to the color coding for Reya and the things associated with her (contd. in another reblog)
reya: white
the arc, portal to reya’s realm: white, blue
Michael, self titled “God’s Vengeance”, agent of reya: blue
Reya’s realm: white, blue, light black (?) and light-dark grey that almost look blue in the light
Tarask’s (reya’s realm): no more orange-yellow, mostly red with a bit of orange sometimes, colors are a lot less bright
Tarask bones aka Divinium: blue
Reya’s walmart wraith demon: blue, white
Now if Reya is God, then that probably makes Reya’s realm heaven, so if the halo is from heaven, then presumably the halo would also be blue or white. But as we all very well know, it isn’t. No, it’s orange-yellow instead.
Now this one is admittedly more of a reach, but the warrior nun intro card has a wisp of what is a very distinctive wraith wisp (- the skull) and color floating around the halo. There’s 0 blue in this intro, which is probably just a coincidence but definitely a tad 🤔 combined w the facts of the previous stuff.
Aside from the color coding, there’s also the similarity of powers between Adriel, Ava, and Lilith (contd in next rb)
There’s also the similarity of powers between Adriel, Ava, and Lilith. Adriel, Lilith and Ava can all see wraith demons, (can in ava’s case) have enhanced speed & strength, enhanced healing. Both Adriel & Ava have the ability to blast away people, and both Lilith & Ava have power of being able to fuck around with objects and space, Ava’s being able to phase through things, Lilith’s teleporting.
Lilith & Ava’s teleporting & phasing, respectively, also look strangely similar at times. Like look at this screenshot.
Did Ava just phase or did Lilith just teleport? If you haven’t watched the episode, who knows! (It’s lilith teleporting in the s2 finale). They don’t just look similar in how the particles in their phasing/teleporting move, they share color a bit.
And Adriel & Ava’s healing back a chunk of skin both looks very familiar. It’s harder to tell with adriel because this screenshot is of shitty quality, but both have tendrils of flesh connecting the pieces of flesh to each other (also again, note the shared color coding)
Not evidence but as the cherry on top, the halo being from hell certainly makes the lilith & ava parallels of both being damned to hell and yet coming back stronger, not despite but because of being touched by hell, so much stronger and continues the deconstruction of Christianity that warrior nun does.
