This is my side blog for @a-gentleman-of-note, still an aesthetic blog, but for buildings. Here i capture some interesting designs, both interior and exterior, often critiquing or giving my humble opinion on. I love castles, cottages, and anything not at right angles. The house in my header is a beautiful home where i rented a room years ago. Its a mansion in Atlanta called Rockmont.

I don't think I've seen a more cheery entrance hall in a Victorian. The whole house is a combination of modern/vintage.
The reception room off the main hall is also very light and bright.
From there, enter the spacious dining room. Both doorways have original pocket doors, but according to the listing, the fireplaces are decorative, so they're non-functional.
There is a modern open concept family room/kitchen. I don't like it, b/c it's too modern for the house.
Normally I would complain about the modern kitchen, but since the house is so light, I guess that the white cabinets fit in.
It does have a somewhat vintage look.
There's also a casual everyday dining area.
Very spacious primary bedroom with plenty of room to sit before the decorative fireplace.
And, it has a walk-in closet.
Plus, an updated bath.
The entrance hall is so large that there's room for another table in front of the window seat.
On the 2nd fl., there's a cute little space for a reading nook.

So, it's not only the "Grey Lady" outside, but inside, also. Maybe it was that way before gray became so popular.

The bedroom is large and has a nice tower shape.
All 6 bedrooms are large and all have been redone.
The baths have all been updated.
This large room looks like it may be in an uppermost floor.
There's a small new deck in the back of the house.
There is so much to love about this Southern home, but there are a couple of things that are very detracting. Let's start with the exterior.
From the outside it is a beautiful design, I love the choice of colors, the embellishment, the tower, the roof angle, and of course the wraparound porch. The architecture is appealing and very photogenic, and the front stairs, very wide and open, have a sense of welcoming and invitation.
The interior has the most interesting rooms (I love any room that's not at right angles), tall windows, and lots of space.
I don't like that the property is so small, at less than half an acre, and I'm not happy with the interior design that they chose for this old house. It's a beautiful example of Victorian and Southern architecture, and should have been given an old-school treatment. But that can always be redone, although at great expense.
However, all in all, at less than half a million for this jewel is a real steal. Georgia is my home state, and I know that Americus is close to the center of the state south of the piedmont. That's mostly farm country out there, but there are still plenty of plantation homes in that area. Those are good folks, but it is country living if that's what you like.
I love tall rooms, but not for kitchens. However, the architect made an excellent choice of creating a curved ceiling (obviously following the slope of the gable) over the arched window. It is eye-catching and interesting, with an overall al fresco feel to it. Plenty of shelf space and a homey coloration to it. (I would have used an earthier brown for the walls to match the tone of the hardwood floors, but it doesn't cost him his A.)
My only knock is the plainness of the cabinetry, but i guess you don't want anything distracting you from the humble chandelier and the useful island.
Very comfortable and yet compact for a wide space .
