(Here's take 2 of my pinned intro post with more coherent writing as well as details (e.g. tag navigation) that are more reflective of my current blog. I made the old version in early 2023 and, now that I'm becoming more active on Tumblr, I felt it desperately needed an overhaul. Important boundaries and other things are under the cut due to post length.)

BIO:
I go by Minami or Alex - either is cool!
I'm basically a ✨multidisciplinary nerd✨, so you'll get a bit of everything from art (both original projects and fanart) to ramblings/notes on anything I'm interested in.
The fanart I create/post is multi-fandom so fandom/media interests may also vary.
Here are a couple of my primary ones currently (in no specific order): Portal, Doctor Who, Welcome Home, and Monkey Wrench.
Other interests include biology (especially botany, anatomy, zoology and marine biology), art history and artmaking, museums, animation, and a whole heap of others I cannot remember off the top of my head.
BLOG NAVIGATION:
I have divided my posts into a few main tags to make it easier to navigate the posts on my blog, which I will list below (no specific order):
#minami’s art = divided into #personal projects, #sca projects and #other art projects (art WIPS, process documentation and notes will be under #wip)
#minami rambles = any of my writings/text posts
#reblog = self-explanatory
#inspo and #thingstonoteforfutureprojects = for bookmarking ideas/inspo for future art projects
#non art projects = projects that aren't necessarily art-related but still fun (YTPs, edits, sound art, etc.)
#silly nonsense = for all the goofy stuff if you're curious
Note that this list may change slightly as time goes on.
I also have a bunch of content warnings for certain subject matter tagged accordingly so you can block said tags (cw tag masterlist to be linked later as a separate post).
IMPORTANT BOUNDARIES/DNI:
I doubt this needs to be said, but predatory individuals and the like are NOT welcome in my audience.
Racist, queerphobic (biphobic, homophobic, transphobic, aphobic, panphobic, etc.), ableist and other discriminatory language will NOT be tolerated.
Such comments on any of my posts will be deleted and I won’t hesitate to block if needed.
Scammers and spam/bot accounts will be blocked and reported on-sight.
Blogs posting and/or supporting generative AI imagery, videos, speech, etc. will also be blocked.
Please DO NOT use my artwork/characters/stories for anything related to generative AI (c.AI, AI image generation, etc.), especially not without consent.
OTHER BOUNDARIES TO BARE IN MIND:
SFW fanart of my characters and stories/AUs is 100% encouraged and appreciated!
2. While I’m personally not comfortable with the idea of NSFW fanart being made of my characters, most of them (unless stated otherwise) are consenting adults. If you’re desperate to make NSFW stuff, PLEASE:
Ask for my consent/approval first - ignoring this rule will result in getting blocked
Make sure the scenarios are consensual (i.e. no immoral/illegal stuff)
Keep it to yourself (i.e. please don’t send it to me without warning for lord’s sake) OR post it on a private, age-gated (18+) platform where those under the age of 18 AND those uncomfortable with NSFW art cannot see/interact with it
Respect the confirmed sexualities (non-het and/or non-allo) and other identities (e.g. gender) of some of my characters - it’s just human decency
If unsure or have any questions about fanart of my characters in general, please feel free to ask
3. You can absolutely reblog my posts on here to your heart’s content - it’s also greatly appreciated!
4. That said, please do not repost my artwork on other platforms (e.g. Insta) OR in posts on your own blog (i.e. not in reblogs) AND especially NOT without credit (i.e. implying you made it yourself) - if you do both, I’ll assume that you’re an art thief so don’t be surprised if I block and/or report you.
If you are confused or have any questions on this section, please do not hesitate to ask.
Earlier today I saw a bunch of Aussie bird drawings on my Insta feed that were in colours of different pride flags so I thought I'd direct your attention to Kayla Reay and her beautiful work:
Kayla Reay is a pencil artist who creates Australian made gifts that celebrate the joy of the birds we love.
And here is the pride bird series specifically:
Range of Australian Bird Pride art prints by queer Australian artist, Kayla Reay.
I know this blog is generally just for jokes, but given my previous post about Lup’s grandfather and his wanting to keep up that identity of ‘gentleman thief’, his face-journey and body language here is fascinating to me and I wanted to talk about it.
Up until this point, Lupin has been proud and confident when he gets into Laetitia’s apartment to find more information on the diary. He’s got no problems poking around her belongs, fiddling with them, and making himself completely at home and being a general nuisance. He looks through her thesis, which gets her defensive and reminds us what he is – a thief (”I see~ So that’s what your interest is?” “That’s right. I’m not like you.”, and the way he doesn’t even fight that comment).
The man’s in his element – confident and relaxed, being evasive and yet surprisingly straightforward (”You’re after the same treasure I am.”).
Then he pulls out half of the key, which makes Laetitia ask about it. His body language here is amazing – the way he looks over to her (with the same wide-eyed look a dog has when you ask what’s in their mouth), down at the key-half, and stands up straight with a slanted smile, because oh, this is something she wants, isn’t that interesting? He’s proud of this, that this is his inheritance from his grandfather, said to be the world’s greatest thief. His shoulders are back and his eyes are lidded like a cat’s. He’s waiting for the surprise, for the awe that comes from the mention of his grandfather.
“So, it was stolen?”
And that facade of suave confidence sinks like a stone. His eyes flutter and blink wide, his eyebrows pinch together, his mouth opens into an almost frown, his weight slightly shifts away. He’s put on the actual backfoot for the first time in this whole encounter with her, and seems almost… flustered? Betrayed? At the very least shocked. He didn’t expect this question, this accusation aimed at him and his grandfather. He looks genuinely hurt, which is… not something we often see with Lupin.
Then that shock gives way to indignation. He squares his shoulders, his eyebrows rise and his eyes go wide, his mouth goes into a thin-line. This man is about to throw hands with this woman he’s only had a face to face conversation with for maybe a total of seven minutes, all because she insulted him / his grandfather as a thief.
That then gives way to defensiveness, and surprisingly? Aggression. Lupin can be a taunting lil’ jerk of a stringbean, but when it comes to actual confrontation, he’s not forwardly aggro about it. Here, though, he gets in Laetita’s face, teeth showing, brows pointed down and glaring eyes, with a gritted “That’s a very serious accusation.” He immediately throws the question back at her, asking where she got her key-half from, to the point where Laetitia backs off. Notice he doesn’t actually answer her question, he just reflects it back at her. To me, that’s telling.
Lupin’s grandfather is such a prominent, driving force in his stories and motivations for thievery, and this movie makes that a strong theme. He’s proud of his legacy and who he hails from, and the movie makes it a habit to remind us that Lupin is what he is – a professional thief. When Laetitia confronts him with that idea, that he stole what was given to him by someone he values so highly (because that’s what he does, right?), that confident mask he wears crumples like wet paper and his immediate response isn’t some witty quip or shrug off, it’s anger and accusations.
Props to the animators, this is a hell of a look into Lupin’s personality and motivations, and it goes by in a matter of seconds. Unbelievably good.
This art is from last year's pride and I still love it so much (you may have noticed I changed my profile picture). I think it was around this time that I decided to identify as aroace after several years of going as unlabelled and questioning. As for my gender, I've been openly trans since 2021 and next month will be 2 years since I started HRT :DD
I'm the happiest I've ever been in my life all thanks to my transition. Transitioning didn't exactly save my life, but it sure let me have one. I'm proud of who I am now and I hope you all are too!! Happy pride month to all my sisters, brothers and gender-nonconforming siblings<33
This Pride Month, we’re celebrating the beauty of diversity above and below the surface. The ocean is full of vibrant life in every color imaginable. It reminds us that nature thrives when everyone has space to belong.
Environmental advocacy and the LGBTQ+ rights movement share a common purpose: protecting vulnerable communities, caring for the spaces we all call home, and creating a world where we all can flourish.
Our world is brightest when people can live authentically, love freely, and be embraced for who they are. From rainbow reefs to shimmering tides, diversity makes our blue planet stronger, healthier, and more inspiring.
Here’s to protecting our ocean, uplifting every voice, and honoring the colorful communities that make this world so wonderful.
Since Pride Month is here, this is a periodic reminder that those attracted to multiple genders (bi, pan, poly, omni, etc.) are just as valid and important as any other queer person.
(Oh, and that bi folks were among the many people pivotal to uplifting recognition for LGBTQ+ people.)
Here it is, your Monday morning moment of zen 🪼〰️
This stunning spider-legged jelly (Octogonade sp.) was observed at 238 meters (781 feet).
Using underwater robots, we can observe these delicate deep-sea drifters without damaging them or disrupting their behaviors. We now know that jellies are some of the dominant predators in the ocean’s inky depths. They are also a food source for many animals and offer shelter in an endless expanse of open water.
Human actions, such as fishing, pollution, mining, and climate change, threaten to unravel the complex web of life that thrives below the ocean’s surface. Our everyday actions impact the deep ocean. Choosing sustainable seafood, avoiding single-use plastic, and reducing your carbon footprint can all help our ocean. Together, we can grow a community of ocean champions committed to protecting the deep sea and its inhabitants.
