Basic needs have become luxuries.
Food is scarce. Clean water is even scarcer. Hospitals are overwhelmed and under-resourced, and there is almost no medical care to be found. Every night, families go to bed hungry, praying theyâll wake up to see another day. The cost of basic necessities has skyrocketed, and itâs become a daily battle just to survive.
Iâve seen things I never thought possibleâstanding in long lines for a piece of bread, rationing every drop of water, and watching my people suffer in silence. I have lost everythingâmy home, my safety, my dignity.
Escape from Gaza is my only hope,
but itâs almost impossible without financial help. The cost of evacuation is far beyond my means, and without support, Iâm trapped in a warzone with no way out.

You wake up already exhausted.
Not just tired but bone-deep drained, like gravity has doubled overnight. Every joint feels swollen from the inside out, your muscles stiff and aching, nerves flaring under your skin like youâve been sunburned by a storm. You shift just enough to breathe, and even that feels like too much.
Thereâs some comfort in knowing that Joaquin spent the night and that you havenât woken up alone, but that can only do so much in the face of sheer pain.
âShit,â you whisper, barely able to keep your eyes open. âTodayâs notâŠitâs bad, Joaquin.â
Joaquinâs already moving before you finish the sentence. He doesnât ask if youâre sure. He does say again? or I thought you were feeling better yesterday.
He just nods, voice gentle as soothing water when he says, âIâve got you.â
He keeps the lights off and draws the curtains, before grabbing the heating pad from under the sink in your bathroom. He asks not a single question, already knowing the settings you prefer.
Your hoodie, the one soft enough to not set off the burning in your arms, is folded at the foot of the bed. He helps you sit up, one arm steady around your waist, the other adjusting your pillow because you canât lift your arms without the pain cracking down your back.
âIt hurts everywhere,â you admit, biting back tears. âEven my fucking hair hurts, I donât know how thatâs fucking possible.â
You get sweary when the pain is at its highest but it doesnât phase him. He knows that it doesnât have to do with him, itâs just your way of being cathartic. He stays tender and hushed.
âI know,â he says quietly, brushing his knuckles along your jaw without pressure. âYou donât have to pretend around me.â
He never makes you. Thatâs the thing about Joaquinâhe doesnât need you to be strong all the time to love you. He gets the fog in your head when words wonât come, the stiffness in your legs when you try to stand, the way you wince at a breeze thatâs too cold or footsteps that are too loud. He doesnât flinch when you cry. He just anchors you.
He hands you your meds with a cup of water, thumb brushing your wrist before letting go. âBreathe through it, cariño. Iâm right here.â
You rest your head on his chest, the pain somehow sharp and dull all at once. But you focus on the steady rhythm of his heart under your ear. On his voice that wraps around you like a blanket, smooth and low as he reads somethingâhe knows youâre not following the words, but it doesnât matter. Itâs not about distraction. Itâs about presence.
With Joaquin, you never have to explain the ache that lives inside your skin.
He just knows.
And when everything feels too heavy, heâs the one thing that never is.
