Newt gave a weak smile. It wasn't that he didn't like working here. He just truly didn't know the machinery until he was taught it and he was still struggling to keep up half of the time. "It pays the bills. It's a bit stressful sometimes, honestly I'm still learning all of the machinery." He laughed softly before pointing over to a small freezer attached to the counter. "We sell coconut water. Just there. Huh. You know I don't know if there is but there should be." He concurred with a smile.

Newt didn't like to think about where he had come from. That was burden that he and Thomas had to bare. The others in Paradise, they weren't even born yet. Thinking about Minho and Alby were like thinking about childhood imaginary friends. It stung tragically. He could only nod as his lips formed a hard line. "No, here's to that never happening." He said as he lifted his mug to cheers against hers. He truly hoped it never happened. If he and Thomas could stop it, he'd at least try. It had made him start to think that maybe the two should be in Politics. He was use to leading and so was Thomas, but those were burdens thrust upon them. As Lydia spoke of New York being safe, he gave her another nod all the while drinking his coffee. "I've noticed it's a lot less zombified." He joked at his own expense. He did notice that it was seemingly safer here. He had promised Thomas that it was and even went to a school and found himself a job. It was almost like living in the Glade. Almost. "Your hometown almost sounds like it's asking for all the nonsense you had told me about. Beacon, a signal of hope. Like a lighthouse keeping ships from rocks and letting them know they are safe and sound. A safe haven." He didn't really see a lighthouse in person but had read about them and had been taught about them but at the end of the day, Newt did even know what a sea actually looked like. The place where he was taken to was near the sea. He use to be able to hear it but that was another forgotten memory. "I like your optimism. Do you think eventually people will be able to leave?" He asked hopefully.

Moana soft smile had encouraged Newt to smile faintly. "No it wasn't." He replied simply. He was entirely intrigued by this island girl. He wasn't too fond of girls as girls come, simply because he didn't get along with them. He found their plights trivial half the time, but this was based off of the few girls he knew. Teresa, Brenda and the girls of Glade B. It was fair to say all accounts prior to coming to New York, weren't very pleasant. "Well it is a bit odd that money was randomly in your home. I wish there was money randomly in mine, then I wouldn't have to be here." He laughed as he carefully took her coffee and added more cream, sugar and an extra pump of caramel. "Here you are, is that better?" He asked with a smile. She was definitely worthy of becoming his friend. At least a new friend would help, maybe help the both of them.

"They would be quite the sight together, wouldn't they? Feeding off of one another's clumsiness and hyperness." Newt laughed softly and set his cup down. He rubbed his whiskey coloured eyes with the heels of his palms before looking over to the female again. As if sensing her thoughts he let out a sigh. "Don't you worry none. My bloody life starts years from now. It was so bad they had to restart the clock. Unfortunately I don't know when." He started to toy with his hands, wringing his fingers back and forth as she reiterated the fact that he had been tested on. He gave a small nod, a cold sweat racing down his spine as all the memories came racing back. The creatures, the fear and the pain of becoming a cannibalistic monster. "It was the government. I don't know who, but WICKED... World In Catastrophe Killzone Experiment Department... They were the ones who ran the world after it ended. They were the ones who ended the world and that was how they figured they fix it. By experimenting on the young. Mainly children and teens." He said, his good knee bouncing up and down slightly in a scared and nervous twitch. His fear of being taken again now building up again. He had promised Thomas they were safe but his fears were real still. Someone put them here.

Newt sighed softly and smiled weakly. He really wasn't too use to compliments. In the Glade he had stuck to his job and himself. He didn't normally put up with the Greenies but was kinder than Alby was to them. Therefore they were drawn to him but he couldn't be bothered until Thomas. Something about him had made Newt alive again. Maybe that was what was happening now. Maybe Thomas had made him actually alive. Maybe that's why they were both here. "You'd like Tommy. He's a really nice guy. He's a bit clumsy and goofy but it's all endearing and I love him for it." He said with a smile, a red hue taking over his face. Any mentioning of Thomas did this to him. The future he had come from wasn't anything spectacular. It had been quite the opposite really. There was over population and the answer that America and other countries had come up with was planned euthanasia of particular cities. What no one anticipated was a fallout and a zombie outbreak. Zombies was putting it nicely, they were called Cranks. When one caught the Flare, a preconditioned disease that lead to becoming a Crank, you'd become literally cranky before slowly losing it all together. The graphics of it all was horrible. There was nothing Newt could truly say that would even come close to describing the hell that lay before them all if time and history remained on course. That children would be ripped out of their parents arms and tested upon, if only they were immune. He was taken because his parents fought against his sister being taken and ultimately ended up shot. He would have been alone. He didn't remember this thanks to experimental memory swiping. "I don't think I want to do what I was doing and as for the future that I'm from... Yes it was technologically advanced but it had collapsed upon them. It was like living after Armageddon, the apocalypse or simply the end of the world. Except in my case there were terrible people experimenting on me and Tommy and all of our friends." He said sadly. "I'd rather not be a lab rat thinking I'm a buggin farmer and second in command of a bunch of scared boys again." He said sadly. It truly hurt to think about the ones left behind. The ones he lost. "I saw a movie that some what related to what I went through. I think it was called Lord of the Flies." He said with a questioning tone, as if trying to remember the title of the film and films were beyond him.

Newt gave a small nod at her question. "Yeah." He replied meekly, honestly hoping she wouldn't have asked but at least she didn't think he was crazy. "Dismal. Desolate. Dusty. Dilapidated. Oh and dangerous." He said as he used his fingers to count what he thought were all perfect descriptions of the era he had come from. "I don't know why they are start with the letter D but that was the future I came from." He sighed sadly, but couldn't help but be intrigued by her unwavering happiness. "Like an island?" He asked as he watched her excitement and wished he could harness that kind of emotions. "I wish I found money laying around. We didn't have places like this were I'm from either. All of this was dilapidated and in disarray." He said with a weak smile, laughing lightly as she sniffed the drink but his whiskey coloured eyes widened as she took a full on sip. "Yes very, are you all right?! I could put cream and sugar in there if you want but really, are you all right?!"

Newt didn’t want to talk about where he was from. Where he was from was a nightmare in comparison to what everyone had gone though, enough for him to stop talking about it. He let out a sigh and shrugged. “Kind of. I’m from a place far from here in a time far from now.” He murmured as he went to fetch her drink, bringing it back to her to see that she had already set the proper amount out on the table. With a smile he gave a curt nod. “Yeah, actually. That’s the correct amount.” He smiled friendly, happy to have possibly made a new friend, maybe.

Newt laughed. "Oh it's allvomes unfortunately with the job." He smirked and leaned against the counter a bit. He noted that the kid was no older than him and laughed at his question. "If I wasn't behind this counter and in this stupid uniform, I'd tell you it was hell. But then again I've been through worse. It's okay. It pays for my place." He shrugged and stood up.

Newt couldn’t help but watch Thomas with interest as he picked up the black coffee. It was a acquired taste and in his opinion, it was overwhelming. The reaction he witnessed was almost that of when Thomas tried Gally’s whiskey. “I’m just glad you didn’t spit it out on me.” He smiled as he watched Thomas and smiled, “Just take mine.” He smiled as he walked back over to the counter and fixed the other drink up in a different flavor. “Unless you are more interested in this one, Tommy.” He said as he sat back down. The next set of words that Thomas spoke made him frown. “Why aren’t you sleeping you silly shank?” He asked fondly as he set his slightly cold hands upon Tommy’s. He liked being around Thomas and was thrilled that the other was here with him. Out of all the Gladers, he was happy it was Thomas, more so that he was living with him. He couldn’t help but blush as Thomas said that him working at the coffee shop was a plus. “Yea, now you can see me all the time.” He mused though blushing wildly. He liked how good Thomas made him feel, he liked all the adorable comments he had made. “But seriously, if you can’t sleep, I’ll have to keep ya company.” He said point blank, his face now crimson at his own words.

Newt nodded softly at the request. Just as he was about to ask the other man had replied to the type of muffin he had wanted. “It’s all right, I’ve been there before.” He said with a soft smile, bending down to gently grasp a muffin, setting it upon the counter as he turned to pour a cup of black coffee. “Here you are, sir.” He said with a soft smile.

Upon hearing a very familiar accent, Newt couldn’t help but smile. He appreciated running into other British people even though he had never been to London, or not that he remembered. The awkwardness of the other brought a small laugh as he listened to what the other wanted and tried not to laugh again. It wasn’t the strangest thing he had heard, just the strangest thing he had heard that day. “Um, well we have hot chocolate, an array of teas and all sorts coffee. I’ve never put ash in them, but I’m guessing a nice coffee could handle some ash.” He replied with a smirk. “With that being said, are you taking it black?”

The British teen nodded and quickly rang up the other male, giving him the total before going to fetch the muffin. After handing the other the muffin. “Here you are.” He smiled as he quickly began to work on Spencer’s coffee. Feeling the need to make small talk, he smiled. “How are you this evening?” He asked as he finished preparing the coffee, passing it over the counter.

Newt gave a curt nod and rang her up, giving her the total. “Anything hazelnut it is.” He smiled. He had to admit, Hazelnut was pretty delicious. “Oh, the paper should be right there.” He pointed down at the shelf of magazines and newspapers below the counter before turning to quickly make her the coffee she had requested. “Are you new here?” He couldn’t help but wonder, his British accent wavering a bit.

Newt couldn't help but wonder after a statement like that if she even had money, yet her words reminded him of the Glade. They all did their part and shared what they had. "Where I'm from it was like that too." He stopped before he had to explain that was the life he knew for as long as he could remember and as long as he could remember was the past four years, at least until his death then what was happening now. If she didn't have money, he was willing to use his one free drink on her. "Caramel macchiato it is then, I'll pay for it." He smiled and swiped his employee card before turning to his co-worker to let him know that he'd make her drink. "Are you alright? You look uncomfortable."
