Steve Rogers is a caster with one very big problem.

He’s accidentally turned himself into a puppy.

When trying to cross the scary, busy street to get to Wanda Maximoff’s Shoppe of Witchcraft to reverse this spell and get himself back to normal, Steve’s picked up by someone trying to do a good deed and rescue a few pounds of pathetic puppy. Instead of getting to Wanda’s place, Steve goes home with Bucky Barnes–his adorably shy rescuer.

Unfortunately, Bucky doesn’t come off as terribly talented with magic and Steve has a feeling he might have to go to extremes to get someone to notice that he’s not a normal puppy. Then again, maybe Steve’s not the only one around here who’s not what he seems.

He can smell them when Bucky comes back to the apartment late at night. Different men, their colognes wafting off him as he lets himself in and walks past the living room where Steve’s always waiting. It may not be every night, but it’s at least two, or sometimes even three, times a week.

Tonight is no different. Bucky keeps his head down as he walks past. He goes straight into his room and closes the door behind him with a finality that means Bucky won’t be emerging till morning. The sound of the shower starts up not two minutes later.

Steve sits alone in the living room, the scent of cologne hanging in the air like an interloper in the apartment. He can’t help thinking Why not me.

I want to recommend Not All That Glitters by Kellyscams! This story is simply one of the loveliest Stucky stories and is just so damn good. I think some people are put off by it because it takes too long for the two to meet, but their meeting is so good it’s worth the wait. All in all, it was such an enjoyable read 💜✨

I am here to highly recommend Black Dog by leveragehunters! It's a new fic and deserves all the love, especially if you're into ghost steve and modern bucky and good magical doggos -- it's a take on mythology that's absolutely unique and interesting and sweet and not too angsty. The author never fails to deliver a lovely fic!

(Rating for later chapters: for the avoidance of any and all possible doubt, this story features a lot of plot and character development. The smut is quite a long way off.) This is the original fic, without post-completion editing.
