being a bg3 fan is so annoying because on one hand astarion's companion story really is that good and i actually do really like him as a character and especially as a nuanced portrayal of an abuse survivor using questionable-at-best coping mechanisms to deal with his trauma. but on the other hand oh my god stop talking about him. please. please stop talking about him. at some point It Simply Gets To A Point.

Ok so I’m playing Baldurs Gate right now and I love Astarion, big shocker ik. So obviously when I’m not playing I come on here to read some fics with him and something that I noticed is that there’s a lot of smut, which ik we’re on tumblr what else do you expect? I’m not saying it’s a bad thing It just makes me feel like some people aren’t really seeing his character completely.

Like when tav and Astarion first slept together he’s said that he did it for protection hoping that tav would grow feelings for him but not expecting himself to do the same. Then he talks about how over the past 200 years Cazador had him use his body to lure people back to him without any care for what Astarion was actually comfortable with, and says that he doesn’t really know how to be with someone not using his body, but asks or agrees that holding off on sex for a while until he feels like he’s not genuinely comfortable with tav and with himself. All throughout the story he talks about how he wants people to think of him as more then just sex and a handsome man to sleep with because he doesn’t believe anyone will really love him without him doing those things.

And so on and so forth, so it breaks my heart in a way? To see so much smut about him, especially when it’s out of character and doesn’t show his insecurity and his struggles but instead just shows a hot vampire. I wish there were more fluffy, angsty, or even just a bit more character accurate smuts for him, cuz he doesn’t believe anyone get more comfortable and isn’t against sex completely but he just want to be genuinely seen first.

Maybe I’m reading to much into it because I relate to his character in that sense but yeah
