When I meet another heartslabyul fan but they infantilize Mrs rosehearts and deny that Riddle is a victim of abuse, demonize the diamond sisters and believe in the caterella, dumb all of ace's character to aceyuu and nothing more, doesn't take any of Trey's trauma seriously, and infantilize Deuce so I just walk away

First chapter:
Ace Trappola was a mystery among his peers.
He was a loud and abrasive troublemaker placed in a dorm with a housewarden that had no patience for his antics and was a strict enforcer of the rules. He was friendly enough to the people around him, but only had a small circle of people he truly called his friends. He seemed to be kind of a loner despite his social butterfly behavior around his classmates and upperclassmen. On top of that, no one knew much about him other than where he was from, he was a younger brother, and some other surface level facts like what he favorite food and color was.
Even if you asked his closest friends, they probably couldn't tell you much more than what you already knew.
It was a little more than frustrating, being Ace Trappola's friend. The desire to know more about him was often met with some pushback depending on the question. And even if he did respond, it was usually with some kind of vague answer that didn't reveal too much more about him. Everyone around him was kept at arm's length, and that was just something his fellow first years had slowly come to accept about him. The distance was fine. Ace would open up to them eventually.
Still, they wished they knew more, especially when it came to certain concerning habits.
Exhibit A: his ability to sleep through pretty much anything.
"He seriously sleeps through anything?" Epel questioned as he snapped his fingers right next to Ace's ear a few times.
The redhead was currently passed out on the floor of Ramshackle, with Deuce having propped him up into a sitting position. The two of them and the rest of their friend group had a sleepover after their classes ended for the day, and they were all learning how hard it was to wake Ace up on the weekend. He was woken up with an alarm on the weekdays, but when the weekend rolled around? He might as well have been dead. Deuce genuinely thought he was one time, and he called the housewarden in a panic only to find out Ace was still just sleeping.
"I'm just really good at sleeping," Ace had told him through a yawn, still waking up from his deep slumber. "It's in my genes I guess."
"Yep," Deuce replied, scrolling on his phone. He sat next to Ace, that terracotta hair resting on his shoulder. "Gentle shaking usually works, but I find it's better to just let him sleep. He almost punched me one time because I scared him."
"Sheesh," Jack mumbled. "I could never."
"Hmph! Lazy human," Sebek agreed.
"How interesting," Ortho mused. "He is able to block out even the loudest of stimuli without even a hint of waking up."
"I mean, at certain things he kind of twitches. I remember one morning Riddle was yelling at someone and Ace looked like he was about to wake up," Deuce recounted. "It was still pretty loud through the walls."
"Does he have some sort of sleep disorder?" Yuu suggested.
He shrugged, Ace's head moving along with his shoulders. "Who knows?"
The group all stood around the two for a few more moments, taking in the new revelation. Yuu sighed, "Well, he better wake up before I finish making breakfast. Or else he's getting the cold leftovers."
"I'll help you out," Jack offered, following Yuu to the kitchen.
"Me too!" Ortho exclaimed.
"I will go freshen up in the bathroom," Sebek announced as he stomped up the creaky stairs. Ace seemed to wince at the sound but still showed no signs of waking up.
Epel sat on the couch, propping his feet up on the table. "He really just sleeps through all the loud noise?" he questioned again.
"He really does," Deuce confirmed, shifting slightly so that Ace was in a more comfortable position. "Why?"
"It nothin' really. He's just… He's always so jumpy y'know? Ya think he'd be jumpy in his sleep too."
Deuce knew, and he thought the same at first. Ace was always looking over his shoulder in one way or another. Always wary when someone called his name from across the room. Always on edge when talking to others he didn't know. Always holding himself with tension in his muscles, seemingly ready to run at a moment's notice. It only seemed natural he would be the same in his sleep.
But as Deuce thought about it, maybe sleep was the only time Ace's body allowed him to relax. It was the only time his body got to unwind, so it makes sense that'd he sleep through any noises that threatened to interrupt him. It was a little sad, Deuce thought, but it never interferred with Ace's life to his knowledge. Being a heavy sleeper wasn't something to be super concerned about.
Deuce shrugged his shoulders once more, answering Epel, "I thought so too, but nope. Sleeps like a log. Even if I come back from track late and accidentally drop or hit something he's out."
"Does he ever sleep through his alarm during the week?"
"Yeah, but he usually sets a few alarms beforehand depending on how early he has to get up. I've been woken up at six before because he didn't wake up and turn off his alarm."
"Great Seven," Epel muttered incredulously. "I'd be pissed. Probably would've killed him to be honest."
"Well I get up pretty early for track anyway, so it's not that bad."
The Pomefiore freshman glanced at Ace's peaceful sleeping expression, still a little baffled at how deep of a sleeper he is. "What are we gonna do if he doesn't wake up before we all need to go back to our dorms?"
"He'll wake up before then. The latest he's ever slept on a weekend is three."
"Jeez. At least he's not sleep deprived."
Deuce almost spoke again but thought better of it. He knew from some nights he woke up in the middle of the night was that Ace wasn't always sleeping well despite being hard to wake up. Maybe that was another reason why he was such a heavy sleeper, Deuce considered. His sleeping pattern was already so inconsistent that whenever he could get sleep he tried to get as much as he could.
He shook himself out of his thoughts. There was no use trying to figure that mystery out. Ace was just a heavy sleeper, and the world kept spinning.
Even though the two knew he wouldn't wake up from the noises, Deuce and Epel still occasionally glanced over at Ace's face to see if he stirred at all. He barely moved when Sebek descended from the creaky stairs. He didn't react when Grim had curled up in his lap to take a nap. He didn't even flinch when Ortho accidentally set off the sensitive fire alarm trying to speed up the cooking process. Through all of those different events, Ace showed zero signs of waking up.
"He's even worse than Silver," Sebek sneered, as he went to close a window that had to be opened due to the smoke in the air. Despite his harsh tone, everyone could tell he was concerned about Ace's strange sleeping habits. No one could blame him for that. "He really sleeps through anything."
Well, that wasn't exactly true. While Deuce and Epel kept a careful watch over their friend, they noticed him react the most to anything that sounded like glass.
He twitched when Yuu had forcefully set down the glass mixing bowl they were using. He winced when Jack accidentally clinked a fork against one of the glasses on the table. He flinched when a glass bottle nearly broke when Yuu accidentally knocked it over. Everything he did react to, no matter how miniscule, was something related to glass.
Cruelly, Deuce wondered if he could smash a glass to wake his roommate up to get back at him for all of his pranks. He shut that down quickly, ashamed by the intrusive idea.
As the smell of warm, fresh waffles and scrambled eggs filled the air, Jack came over and peered over the couch. His gaze fell on Ace and Deuce. "He's still not awake yet?" he asked.
"Still dead," Epel replied.
"Jeez. Is he sleeping enough during the week or is this just an every weekend thing?"
Deuce shook his head in defeat. "I couldn't tell you."
"Well, I'd hate for you to get punched if you try to wake him up, but I'd feel kind of bad if we all ate without him."
"If I nudge him gently enough he probably won't try and attack me."
"You inspire a lot of confidence," Epel chimed in sarcastically.
Jack shook his head and returned to the kitchen while Deuce replied, "He'll be fine. If he doesn't wake up on his own, something surely will."
As if on cue, Yuu was shuffling around the kitchen and accidentally bumped into the beastman, causing them to drop the plate in their hand.
Ace shot up from Deuce's shoulder, recoiling from the shrill noise of porcelain dinnerware shattering. His heart beat rapidly in his chest as his head whipped around to find the source of the noise. "What happened?" he asked, his voice groggy from sleep.
"Sorry," Yuu replied sheepishly. "I dropped a plate."
Everyone watched the boy carefully, watching his chest rise and fall from the quick and shallow breaths he was taking. Of all the things that woke him up, it was that? They didn't know why, but they were more concerned with how scared he looked. His entire body was tense with terror, and his eyes were trained on the broken shards of the plate.
"Oh," he breathed after he finally registered what had happened. "Okay. It's okay."
His breathing seemed to slow down and become deeper. His shoulders slowly slumped back down to align with his collarbone. He blinked slowly, clearly disoriented from being jolted out of his deep sleep. Deuce and Epel couldn't help but exchange worried glances.
"You okay?" Epel asked.
Ace looked up at Epel on the couch, a sleepy, strained smile gracing his face. "Yeah. Just scared me a little is all."
"You got Deuce's arm in a death grip there."
He turned to see that he was in fact clutching onto Deuce's forearm tightly. His fingers trembled as they let go of him. "Sorry man." His eyes went wide in alarm. "Oh shit man did I fall asleep on you? Were you stuck sleeping like this all night?"
"No I just moved to sit next to you," Deuce assured him.
"Oh, okay, cool, cool." Ace slowly pushed himself up and stretched, letting out a yawn. "I'm gonna go wash my face. Try to wake up properly."
"I'm sorry again," Yuu apologized.
He flashed them a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes and gave them a shaky thumbs up. "All good Prefect!"
Ace disappeared up the creaky stairs. Once they were all sure he was out of earshot, Epel immediately started, "Okay, not saying that you're not allowed to not wake up at something shattering, but how do you wake up at that and not the alarm?"
"Not to mention he looked absolutely terrified," Jack added, helping Yuu clean up the plate with a pinched expresion. "Like he was expecting something to happen after it broke."
"Has he ever done that Spade?" Sebek inquired.
"Done what exactly?"
"Reacted like that when something breaks."
Deuce pondered for a moment, thinking back to the few times one of them had dropped something while setting up for an unbirthday party. "I don't remember him ever looking that scared. Maybe it was just because it woke him up?"
"But he is normally frightened by breaking things or things being broken in his presence?" Ortho asked.
"Yeah. I'd say so."
Silence fell over the group for a moment as they processed the new information. It was normal to have a little bit of anxiety about breaking something. However, to be so terrified at the noise itself that it's the only thing that can wake someone up? That was a little more than concerning. And Ace looked like he was about to have a panic attack. Over a plate that he wasn't even near.
"Well, I'd ask him about it, but I already feel bad about him waking up like that in the first place," Yuu sighed as they threw away the shards.
"Note to self: Ace is easily woken up by stuff breaking," Jack mumbled as he crossed his arms, ears flattening.
"Try not to break things in his presence," Epel followed.
Sebek scoffed, gnawing on the inside of his lip. "At least he is woken by something."
The stairs creaked, alerting everyone that Ace was done upstairs. Ortho immediately rushed up to him as he descended. "We have made breakfast Ace Trappola!" he exclaimed. "I promise I haven't put any hot sauce in it!"
An easy chuckle fell from Ace's lips. He clearly still held a tiny bit of tension in his body, but most of it seemed to be eased by Ortho's excited demeanor. "I'm choosing to trust you on that," he replied, another yawn escaping.
Yuu stepped to him next, an apologetic look on their face. "I'm really sorry about waking you up like that," they said.
"Don't worry about it Yuu."
They held their arms out invitingly. "Can I hug you to make up for it?"
Ace wordlessly walked into Yuu's arms and the two hugged for a few moments. His shoulders sagged in relief. "Apology officially accepted. No more worrying about it."
"Surprised you slept so long," Jack remarked. "You didn't even wake up when Ortho set off the fire alarm."
Ace shrugged his shoulders. "I excel at sleeping. What can I say?" The lack of acknowledgment of the state he was in after he woke up said all everyone needed to know. Ace wasn't going to talk about it, per usual.
"Silver has you beat there, I'm afraid," Sebek replied.
Deuce's stomach suddenly growled loudly. He cringed as he held his hand over his midsection. "Sorry. I'm starving."
"Let's eat then!" Yuu exclaimed.
Everyone took their seats at the table, trying their best to forget how frightened their friend had been moments before and what that could possibly mean about him.
You tag "pre-established couple" for the fluff and hurt/comfort so that character A has someone there for them
I tag "pre-established couple" for the angst of character A getting the one good thing ripped away from them
Do you guys think that the boys at NRC have multiple magestone pens/wands whatever you wanna call them?
Like, there's no way at least one of them hasn't lost one at some point I mean they GOTTA have multiples right??
