Last Biology notes of this term. Ready for finals🌿
I’m constantly torn between the ‘be kind to everyone’ and the ‘fuck everyone you owe them nothing’ mentalities
Do no harm but take no shit
DO NO HARM BUT TAKE NO SHIT
There is literally nothing in nature that blooms all year long, so do not expect yourself to do so.
January 14 2018
today i am tired and sleepy and lazy but there are things i have to do so im just doing them……very lazily.
I’m glad that the only class that really requires me to “learn” is my ochem class because my other classes are just me going thru the motions with stuff i’ve learned before, im just applying them to busywork assignments now. (aka chem lab with the plethora of assignments)
Studyblr Intro Post
Greetings and salutations! My name is Jemma and I am beginning this studyblr to log my first year of university. To properly introduce myself, here at a few facts about me:
1. I was born and grew up in England, but my family is South African and we moved back to South Africa in 2013. I was 14 at the time and I am now 18.
2. I am a great lover of maths, science and coffee. I find it very relaxing to study for maths in particular and I easily fall into a flow and lose track of time when studying for maths exams. I am a complete coffee addict and snob (I don’t use instant coffee unless I absolutely have to). I am a trained barista too!
3. I am studying Actuarial Science at university - hence my blog name. If you know what that is, I’m impressed! I had no idea what act sci was up until my final year of high school. In a nutshell, act sci is all about complex maths and statistics in a business setting. Actuaries assess risk for insurance and finance companies predominantly, but they can branch out into other fields such as healthcare.
4. I have changed my degree choice three times. I originally applied for medicine and I completed hundreds of hours of community service to boost my applications over 2016 and 2017, but I wasn’t 100% sure I wanted to give up maths. I then changed to a degree in maths and physics, and finally to actuarial science.
5. Without sounding arrogant, I do believe that I am a pretty efficient and effective student when it comes to learning, studying and exam technique. Part of this has to do with my switching high school curriculums when I emigrated and having to learn completely new and different subjects for the South African syllabus! I was very good at kicking procrastination, as well as remaining calm and collected during high pressure periods of my high school career. I managed to come in the top 1% of my country in my final high school exams as a result.
6. I love teaching. I was a volunteer tutor at a local orphanage in my final year of high school, and now I am employed as a tutor in my university town. I love explaining concepts and breaking down difficult problems and I find teaching very rewarding. Please feel free to shoot me a message if you ever need help with anything - I promise I don’t bite!
If you read this far, well done! I hope everyone has a productive 2018 and have a great rest of your day!!
6/100 Days of Productivity // Saturday 13 January
The main goal for today is to read as much of Augustine’s The City of God against the Pagans (which is 1182 pages long RIP me). I’m also going to college brunch, and I have rowing training in the afternoon - I’ve already got a blister from yesterday, so today is going to be painful! Hope you all have a productive weekend!
