I know its been said before but pretty much all of the gem fusions with the exception of like Garnet shouldn’t have the personalities they have. 

The first not Garnet fusion we see, Opal, is just… way too fucking calm man. Like I love Opal (as much as I can bc we haven’t seen her in years) but she was hardly reflective of either of her components. I wouldn’t consider Pearl to be calm, and I wouldn’t consider Amethyst to be graceful, and neither of them are particularly composed in the least. Opal was shown to be pretty much perfect with the slightest amount of instability and forgetfulness, but Pearl and Amethyst’s relationship didn’t reflect any of that at all at the time.

Man, Sugilite? God, don’t even get me started on Sugilite. Appearance aside (I’ll make a separate post for that) I can’t see how Garnet and Amethyst combined would make Sugilite. Like, reckless? Sure, I get that. But to the point of endangering and injuring Steven? To the point of endangering other humans? The way she acted towards Pearl? No! Garnet and Amethyst were easily the closest with Steven, especially then! Logically, their fusion might be a little showoffish to the kid but to the lengths that it was taken was unrealistic. Garnet was (and still is) kind of awkward and distant from humans, but Amethyst is easily the most human-like of the CGs! (excluding Steven obviously) I think that even in anger, neither of them would intentionally put a human bystander in harms way, so why would Sugilite? And Pearl? God, the way she and Pearl interacted was honestly just… so bad to watch. Sugilite’s entire existence was handled horribly tbfh.

Alexandrite actually made sense tho I think like their entire group dynamic would definitely make for a fusion awkward in a human setting. I really do like Alexandrite I wish there were more instances in which we could see her.

Sardonyx. Tbh I think aspects of her personality would have suited Sugilite pretty well. Showing off, being confident but not overly destructive, etc. I kind of expected a more… stiff? Personality for a Garnet/Pearl fusion. Like I’ve already mentioned how awkward Garnet used to be and Pearl is no smooth talker so why?? Did we get suave, funny master-of-ceremonies Sardonyx from these two? And she definitely should’ve been less stable and bouncy after her debut, with the amount of tension that’s SUPPOSED TO still be between them after Cry For Help. (what even happened to that anyway? Shouldn’t things still be a little terse sometimes? it hasn’t been that long even by human standards? but whatever)

anyway I digress but the fusions don’t really make sense like at all lmao

regarding lauren’s latest post, what irritates me most is their attitude, how they act like they’re doing us a favor with the way they wrote lapis and peridot’s “relationship”.

yes i admit i am/was an amedot shipper. but this isn’t about me being upset that my ship won’t be canon. i can deal with that. what i can’t deal with is amethyst yet again being used as prop for a white/white-coded character’s development (pearl, steven, and now peridot).

it also bothers me that some white fans/lapidot shippers are gonna eat this right up as great gay representation (you can already see people doing that in the notes of their post). as if there’s anything revolutionary about using characters of color as tools for another character’s development and then tossing them aside when there’s no more “use” for them.

“I don’t want to have people have to sit down and put together puzzle pieces to see if they were represented. Not in this day and age. That game is so tiring.” 

wow it’s so funny that you say that lauren, because that’s exactly what you put me and other fans of color through. i was so excited about amedot possibly being developed, that a character like amethyst who i relate so strongly to, could be shown love when people like her (mentally ill, fat, woc) usually don’t on tv. 

but nope! no love for fat woc huh! as long as your skinny white faves are happy who cares right??

i tried to give lapidot a chance, i really did. if it was actually written properly i wouldn’t have any problems with it. i’m just so frustrated not just because of it’s shitty development, but because amethyst had to be sidelined AGAIN just to further the ship. 

this is why so many f/f ships on tv right now don’t do it for me, because they’re mostly catered towards white lesbians. i shouldn’t have to choose between both aspects of my identity (being black and gay). i know media representation isn’t even the biggest problem in our community right now but damn, it would be nice to see a character like me actually being treated respectfully by the narrative just once!

it just hurt me emotionally a lot because ive been in similar situations where someone destroyed something important to me just to make me upset and let me tell you, that fucking hurts. i know peridot was in the wrong, and i cant say lapis wasnt ENTIRELY justified in being angry, but it was just……it crossed the threshold for me of what was okay and what wasnt. idk, maybe someone else can word this better than i can?

Everyone used to apologize for the shitty things they did. It was great! Because, like real life, sometimes people do shitty shit, but you have to take responsibility. The gems always showed that they cared about each other’s feelings.

Then the show got mean. More and more actions and words seemed out of character, then they got downright abusive (read: pearl). my last post has more on something like this I guess? but it just really feels like peridot isn’t ALLOWED to have things she likes. she isn’t ALLOWED to have comfort items.

where did all of the stuff she loved go? where’s all the stuff that made her interesting and comfortable and relatable? her tape recorder was smashed, her limb enhancers were tossed in the ocean, her tablet was almost destroyed, and then it stopped being a thing all together. her paint cans? just disappeared. and she didn’t seem too broken up about any of that. she should have been. she should be pissed all of her good stuff was taken away or destroyed. it would have been so interesting.

but she’s a joke now, a punchline. she isn’t allowed to have nice things. she isn’t allowed to be anything other than a happy-go-lucky funny gremlin baby. she has to be a gremlin now because it’s easier to write or smth. I’m waiting for another dumb excuse from the crewniverse as to why she’s treated as a joke lol.

“Everyone knows I’m one of the biggest Disney fans ever and I don’t like having to call them out. Especially because they’ve been working really hard on representation in all of their recent films. But something happened to my buddy Kyle Paala this week that really has me upset. Kyle is Samoan, he’s a tall brown guy with long curly hair and tattoos. He kinda resembles a certain demi-god. Kyle is an annual Passholder to Disneyland and when Moana first came out he was stoked to find out that his culture would be represented in film. Imagine his surprise when one of the main characters truly looked a whole lot like him! After the film was released, Kyle would be stopped literally everywhere he went, the mall, walking around downtown, and of course at Disneyland. Little kids stopping him and calling him Maui. Well, a few days ago he was approached by Disney security and told that he was being watched and he needed to consider even changing his appearance. It should be noted this isn’t coming from top Disney execs but just some nosy park security. However, it’s got Kyle pretty upset and he’s been trying to get the word out that people need to stop calling him Maui. But how are you going to stop excited children who don’t know better? He doesn’t dress like him at the parks, he doesn’t go by that name, he introduces himself as Kyle. He’s just Samoan. He is truly one of the most loving, kind, and generous people ever. He’s also a diehard Disney fan. It’s a real shame that he’s being shunned instead of embraced. Don’t kick Kyle out! Hire him or something. Because clearly, people love him. I sure know I do!”

Its so so so so strange, I was young, but I distinctly recall anti-war sentiment being a huge thing around the end of the Bush era right? Nobody has been able to explain to me what the hell happened to that. You’re right, because of him it’s hard to criticize Trump on nearly anything about the military. What has been his one blunder so far that’s caught news? The death of a SEAL in Yemen. Unless he launches us into another armed conflict it is hard to see that changing. Trump is currently proposing to inflate the military’s incomprehensibly huge budget by 10%, and even that probably won’t draw enough flack to be used against him. Obama probably set anti-war efforts back by decades, all after winning a nobel peace prize before ever entering the office. But I think the bigger fact we have to reckon with is that the majority of Americans don’t give a shit about the impact of our military interventions unless Americans are dying.

I don’t think people realise how easy it is to feel ugly when you’re South East Asian.

I know so many popular East Asian bloggers, who always get so many notes because of how elegant and refined and. Pale. They are. Those are standards most of us can never achieve. I’ve never seen a selfie set of a southeast Asian girl break 1k: but I’ve seen plenty, and I mean plenty of pale East Asians break 3k easy.

I know East Asian bloggers who go on about racism against East Asians and act like it’s universal. I know some who will talk about East Asian racism but never breathe a word about racism against southeast Asians.

I know East Asian bloggers who literally don’t follow any South East Asians. The ones who say that it doesn’t matter because “we’re all East Asian!” Technically. Or those who act like we’re a different breed and a different species.

I wonder if most East Asians know that their beauty standards get passed down to our countries. I wonder if they know how it hurts a lot of us.

So I’m giving a shoutout to every southeast Asian girl. Every one of you,if us, deserves to feel pretty.

I’m talking about the Indonesian gals with broad noses. The Malay girls who wear Tudung and are mocked. Chinese Singaporeans who are still not “Chinese enough” for mainlanders. Filipino girls who feel guilty about their curly or frizzy hair. Indian Singaporeans who are feel like they need to be pale to be worth something ( you don’t). Thai girls who are told their country is only good for farming rice. Myanmar girls who get asked mockingly if they’re domestic workers. Even if you are, there is no shame in that. Every Cambodian girl who felt bad about having thick lips. I know I left a lot of people out, and I’m sorry. But if you’re reading this and haven’t seen yourself here - you are just as worthy and my spirit and strength and good wishes are with you
