Brenda was hanging out at Lake Placid, she brought a picnic to the docks and was sitting with the girls and a few of their toys. She wanted to escape the - god she couldn’t believe she even had to say it in her head - dinosaurs. She had no idea how to explain to students that dinosaurs went extinct 65 million years ago whilst dinosaurs were roaming the streets. But, well, she didn’t think there were any water dinosaurs. And at least she didn’t need to deal with sharks anymore. She felt the presence of someone else there and yelled, “You’re welcome to join us! Made enough to feed a small army.”

He was pushing the pram in front of him, with one hand, while moving the blanket to cover Beatrice a bit better. The reason he was out there was to get fresh air, and in hopes of getting away from the noise of the dinosaurs that were roaming closer to the centre of the town. 

When Addison heard the voice, he stopped and looked around, and spotted the residential teacher, from what he had learned during his short time in Perfection Valley. “Hey, that’s kind of you. We wouldn’t mind joining. Though, I think Bug here might be sleeping for a while longer.” He said with a chuckle and steered himself over to where they were.

He had just gotten his daughter down for a nap, when he heard it. A noise he’d never heard before. It was strange, and he poked his head out through the window. That’s when Addison saw it. “Shit, fuck, that’s, not normal.” He muttered to himself, not wanting to wake Beatrice, if he could help it. So far she hadn’t woken up from the noise. “Please tell me you see that too?” He asked the person closest to him in the saloon. He was glad that he’d gotten the goahead to keep a portable crib in the saloon, in a corner where there usually wasn’t much movement, and close to the kitchen door.

“That’s something at least. I’m glad she’s not hurt. I just wish there was a way to get her away from all of this.” they took a sip of their drink, not sure if they should say that they’re not sure anywhere is safe, there was a childish part of them that felt like if their dad was here he’d know exactly what to do. “No, no, I imagine you’re much better off in here. I hope it doesn’t though.” was all they could say. “I could watch her right here if you like, so you can see her but there’s someone else to rock her.” they offered, but they weren’t sure if that would work, babies didn’t always react all that well to people unfamiliar with them all the time, after all.

“Well, she was safe before I got her. But, well, her mother died.” He said with a slight shrug. “And to be honest, I like it here. Even with all the random dangers. And well, I’m good with a bow, so I can keep us safe. And I’d rather keep her with me, than leave her with someone I don’t know, in another part of the country.” Addison was being honest as he spoke quietly, all the while rocking his daughter back and forth. “Sure, you can try if you want to. But I don’t know if it’ll work.”

“Well- fair enough. At least it’s not a giant worm who can dig through the walls and stuff. Cause that was horrible.” He said with a chuckle. “Well, it’s safer than being outside. Or in something that can be flown away, like a car.”

Making Baby Food

Simon let out a small chuckle at the mention, nodding with approval. “They kind of have a weird texture to them unless you’re eating them with fish, have to agree with the little one this time.” How many plates of food didn’t you end up cleaning up through the years of dismissed attempts at serving something tasty? Too many, was the answer. “I would recommend carrots if nothing else. They’re easier to mush and go well with almost anything you blend it with. That and chicken, the broth especially makes it easy to consume.” 

Addison was quick to brush off the topic and Simon, not being one to linger, decided it was best to leave it brief. “I can only imagine! Kids do kind of change your life overnight and there’s not much to do about it besides adapt. However, if you ever need to talk or anything you know where to find me.” At least he seemed to have some outside help, which was a good thing. “Oh yeah, I can probably give you some tips if you need them. If you have questions, just shoot!” By the end of the day, it meant talking about his own daughter and he would happily dig into that topic among most. “Want me to taste test your new dish? I can tell you if the cosistence is right or if you need to blend it more, for starters.” 

“I only ever ate peas if it was in a soup. Like garden pea soup. But yes, i do agree, it is a strange texture, so I do understand why she swatted it away.” Addison said and nodded with a smile. “Oh, that’s a good tip. Thanks. I’ll have to try that next. Though, right now, it’s pork, with some onion and potatoes. I figured that would be a good mix, it’s just, a bit bland.” He hummed, and then added a bit more spice, before tasting it, again. 

“Yeah, I always wanted kids, the ex, not so much. I just, yeah.” He pushed the thought away and then focused back on the food. He tasted it again, and shrugged. “Okay, I can’t get this right. So, if you are up for it, could you taste it, too?” He asked and looked up at Simon. He really needed the help at this point. “And I do need to bring Bug in, so she can meet you guys. But need a crib or something first.”

“Oh my goodness! Is that a baby?” Phoenix said, possibly a bit too excited about seeing the little one. She absolutely loved other people’s kids, but having one of her own wasn’t really something she wanted. She got up from her seat and walked over. She waved at the little baby and smiled at her. “Oh my gosh, she’s adorable,” she said, looking up at the other man. “Sorry. Kind of acting a bit weird, huh? I just haven’t seen such a precious little baby in forever.” 

“Yes, she is one. This is my daughter, Beatrice.” He said with a chuckle, amazed at how excited a person could be over seeing his daughter. “It’s alright. She is precious. When she isn’t cranky. As long as she has her paci, it’s all good.” Addison said with a nod and watched Beatrice look at the woman wave. She was newly awoken, so her attention wasn’t that good, and she quickly leaned against him, making soft noises.

“Well, look who’s woken up. Hey little Bug. Do you wanna meet daddy’s coworkers?” He asked as he picked her up from the stroller he’d gotten. It wouldn’t work much longer for putting Beatrice down for naps in, since she was getting too big for it. But the best part was that it converted to a sit up stroller, which he could use until she got older. “It’s okay, you don’t have to be sad, daddy’s right here.” Addison murmured and kissed her cheek and carried her out into the main area of the saloon. There were several patrons there, and he’d made food for them, and he’d have to make more eventually, but for the moment, there were no orders. Which meant he could hang out in the saloon and get away from the warmth of the kitchen for a bit.

Simon watched in silence as Addison started to fumble around with some spices, wondering if it would make a difference yet. His mind tried to recollect the many articles he had read through upon Hayley’s arrival, but some of the information had already mixed together at this point – especially in regards to what age each development happened. “I’m sure the kid will show you whether it is appreciated or not, they know what they want and what they like from an early stage.” 

Then, not much later, his eyebrows rose high. “Excuse me, but did you just brush over the fact you had someone die?” He wasn’t certain what parts to focus on first, staring straight at his co-worker. “Jesus, Addison… you can’t just go to work and keep that shit to yourself! Are you alright?” Because surely you didn’t dump off your child with a stranger, right? “I mean… yeah, I have a daughter too. Hayley. She’s four thought, so a bit of a difference there.” 

“Oh, I’m sure she will. I have noticed that she does not like peas.” Addison as he thought back to the night before when he’d tried feeding her some mushy peas, and he’d gotten it back into his face. It was why he was avoiding peas at the moment. 

“What? Not on purpose. But she died, and I basically became a dad over night, without even knowing about it beforehand. So... Don’t have much time to think about it, and I need to make sure that Beatrice is good. Thankfully Charlie is helpful.” He said as he checked on the food, and decided that it was good enough, and he’d try it with Beatrice. “Yeah, there’s a difference. But I’m sure it’ll still help. Especially if you have tips for me.”

There were a few familiar people scattered around the Salloon including Charlie and their sister who had decided that the Salloon was a better choice than their basement — the establishment basement was stronger, had other people which undoubtedly worked in their flavor, with loads of drink and food if they were going to be cooped up for a while. 

They pushed themselves off the ground and followed Addison, gentling tapping him on the shoulder to gain his attention. Charlie offers a small smile, it’s a feeble attempt at comfort but it’s the best they can muster in such a  whacky Perfection Valley situation. “How you holding up?” They whisper, not wanting to scare the small child in his arms who already had a startled expression. Their hand slips in their bag, pulling out their set of keys on which a big, fluffy rainbow pom-pom key ring was bound . “Hey——hey, Bug.” Jiggling it in the air, it bobbles up and down. ”What’s this, huh? I know it’s not your favourite but look it’s super colourful.”

“I’m good, Charlie. Bug, not so much.” He said as he rubbed the toddler’s back, and watched her watch Charlie. Bug was still crying, but at the same time watching the other. “I’m not so sure that Bug is too happy about our current freak weather storm.” He kept rubbing her back, but it wasn’t helping, much. Not until Charlie pulled out the key chain, and jingled it in front of Beatrice. 

She looked at the keys, and started to reach out for them, a quiet sniffle before she calmed down, almost completely. The colourful pompom was what she was grasping for, and making noises at.

“Is she okay, she’s not hurt is she?” hearing the cries they were quite concerned, naturally, despite the fact they’d been waiting on their lasagne for about half an hour now. It wasn’t exactly on the forefront of their mind right now. No, that was more on the raging sharkstorm outside. They couldn’t believe that this was real, but they had seen the pictures. Loris were starting to think that maybe they needed to start believing in the utterly crazy a bit more. “Is the storm scaring her?” it was fair enough it had them pretty scared too, a baby had every right to be terrified.

“No, no, she’s not hurt. The sirens scared her, and the sound of the storm isn’t making it any better. And well, the trailer isn’t safe. It can fly away.” He said and moved around the counter. He was supposed to be working, but with Beatrice crying, it was hard. “And, well, with the crazy sharknados, I don’t really want to leave her with anyone else either.” Addison said as he walked closer to the crib, only to hear her wailing pick up again. “Hush, it’s okay Bug. You’re safe here.”

Ákat smiled as he said she could stay with the two of them.  “Oh please don’t worry.  If I had the opportunity to scream and cry about the storm I would too,”  she chuckled.  “But I completely understand.  That’s one of the reasons I ended up in here.  It was either my trailer home or the garage with the possibility of cars flying around, and none of them sounded particularly inviting.”

He chuckled lightly at the comment about wanting to cry and scream about the storm. Addison could understand it, especially with how loud Beatrice was being. However, she was slowly starting to calm down, as he kept walking back and forth, rocking her. “Yeah, I also have a trailer, but I work here, so it felt more okay to come here, than someone else’s place, y’know.”
