Muslims protect Christians in Kenya bus attack
According to the BBC, gunmen ambushed a bus in Kenya, attempting to divide those on board based on religion. However, the Muslim passengers reportedly refused to split. More information on the deadly attack and act of bravery.

Giant hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum) is an invasive herb in the carrot family which was originally brought to North America from Asia and has since become established in the New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Northwest regions of the United States. Giant hogweed grows along streams and rivers and in fields, forests, yards and roadsides, and a giant hogweed plant can reach 14 feet or more in height with compound leaves up to 5 feet in width.
Giant Hogweed sap contains toxic chemicals known as Furanocoumarins. When these chemicals come into contact with the skin and are exposed to sunlight, they cause a condition called Phytophotodermatitis, a reddening of the skin often followed by severe blistering and burns. These injuries can last for several months, and even after they have subsided the affected areas of skin can remain sensitive to light for years. Furanocoumarins are also carcinogenic and teratogenic, meaning they can cause cancer and birth defects. The sap can also cause temporary (or even permanent) blindness if introduced into the eyes.
If someone comes into physical contact with Giant Hogweed, the following steps should be taken:
Wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and COLD water as soon as possible.
Keep the exposed area away from sunlight for 48 hours.
If Hogweed sap gets into the eyes, rinse them with water and wear sunglasses.
See a doctor if any sign of reaction sets in.
If a reaction occurs, the early application of topical steroids may lessen the severity of the reaction and ease the discomfort. The affected area of skin may remain sensitive to sunlight for a few years, so applying sun block and keeping the affected area shielded from the sun whenever possible are sensible precautions PLEASE, DO NOT JUST READ AND SCROLL! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT AND POTENTIALLY LIFE-SAVING INFORMATION!!!
Extra note: if you live in Oregon, New Jersey, Michigan or New York and see one of these, call your state’s department of agriculture to report it, and trained professionals will come kill it before it can produce seeds and spread.
Frankly, if you see one in general, probably call your DOA and see if there’s a program in place.
Do not burn it, because the smoke will give you the same reaction.
If for some ungodly reason there isn’t a professional who can handle it for you (and please, please use a professional), the DOA of New York has [this guide] for how to deal with it yourself.

According to the US Department of Agriculture, these are currently the states and provinces in North America where Giant Hogweed is present. Even if your state/province is “clear” that doesn’t mean that it is not there. If you see Giant Hogweed in your yard or anywhere please call your DOA! This stuff is mad deadly!

Also here is a human for size reference. Since they are huge it should be easy enough to see and spot when fully grown.
The burns can also be very bad, far worse than any poison ivy. Just Google ‘Giant Hogweed Burns’ and you’ll see. It can cause bad blistering, red painful rashes, and more. Please be careful of this plant!
They exist in Austria and Germany too. Please be careful!
Also, if you are in the Iowa/Minnesota area (maybe farther, I don’t exactly know), there is a close relative (also invasive) with yellow flowers called wild parsnip.

It only gets to about half the size of giant hogweed but has all the same toxic effects. The plants in the pictures look small but I’ve seen ones at least 6 feet tall with stems two inches thick.
A lot of pictures available of giant hogweed are fullsized and in bloom. Just because it lacks the flowers doesn’t mean it’s not hogweed! It is dangerous well before that point.
As seen above, another important detail when identifying them can be the stems. They often have this reddish speckling, and are covered in bristly hairs. Like the rest of the plant, you should absolutely not touch them either.
You can see here how the redness is mostly on larger, older portions of the stems.
For those of you in Ontario, here is a link to some more information via Ontario’s Invading Species Awareness Program . It has details on the plant’s growth, removal methods, and groups you can report sightings to.
Unfortunately I lack information on herbicide use, but if the responsibility of removing giant hogweed somehow falls to the owner, please research local laws/restrictions concerning the use of things such as glyphosate (roundup). It is always possible to make things worse instead of better, so exercise caution in all areas, not just the handling/disposal of the plant.
This is not bullshit. My sister works for the Cooperative Extension in New York and this is a big P.R. focus for them. They have trouble because somebody may spot some of these on a neighbor’s property and call it in, but they can’t get permission to go in and take it out because the neighbors think it’s “pretty” or they “natural” and want it to stay.
Here’s another thing about it that makes it dangerous and maybe might scare some people into doing something about it: this time of year, (winter) the dried stuff is tailor-made for attracting kids: long, light, jointed. It looks like bamboo and they will use it to frame up little huts, make beaded necklaces, use as “sword.”, etc. The worst is it’s hollow which makes it perfect for BLOW GUNS. Imagine getting that stuff on your lips….
I work at an environmental science college and can also confirm this. This stuff is bad bad bad news.

Teen Found Dead In Police Custody; Police Won’t Give Family Any Details
16 year old Gynnya McMillen was found dead early Monday morning at a juvenile detention center near Elizabethtown, according to the Kentucky Justice Cabinet. A spokesperson told WDRB she couldn’t give any details, except that it happened early Monday morning, Jan. 11.
According to the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet’s statement, the girl was found unresponsive. Officials did not say where she was found and her autopsy reads that she has “no cause of death,” leaving a lot of people asking questions like how a completely healthy teenage girl was found dead without any cause?
McMillens sister took to Facebook asking that her sister’s death not be ignored. She wrote:
“I’m asking that everyone repost and share my sisters story on your pages and in any groups that will help us get it out there. My 16yr old sister died in custody of a detention center but they’re not giving out any info on how she was found and they’re saying her autopsy shows no cause of death. The news channels only played her story one time. We want justice and Kentucky isn’t giving it to us! Thanks for all the prayers and help. Gynnya McMillen”
The family of the victim is saying police won’t give them any information and not a single media source is covering this story.
Police in the area are said to be “investigating the death.” Which we all know what that means…

This is how you fix things. Or at least try to. When someone can’t afford something, they sure as fuck are not going to be able to afford the ticket you give them for not having the thing they can’t afford.

One more thing about reposting art (preaching here lol)
I heard a lot about this biggest reason for people reposting art is because people think all artists should be grateful when their artworks got spread around, and these reposting attempts are very good to boost artists popularity.
But often, they do not put any source or credit the artists at all. Some would then go on and say, “If the artists wish me to put on their source, I will do it.”
But by then, it will be too late. Why don’t you put an extra effort to find WHO the artist is and then put source on your posts - or better yet, INFORM the artist first before you repost their artworks?
It takes time for any artists to draw any artworks and they share it for people to enjoy. It is a mutually beneficial thing, they get feedback and you get to see & enjoy the visual products. So, as a real token of appreciation (in case of fan art/free art), why don’t you take the time to actually find those sources or ask for permission from the artists?
You see many others on the internet aren’t sourcing their posts either? Doesn’t mean it gives anyone a free pass to do the same. Right? Have some heart, artists generally do not make that much money so at least give them some credit for their own works.

Several korean UT artists have shut down their accounts because of an ongoing severe theft problems.
Not just because of the merchandising. But also for socmed use, rp accounts, blog headers, YOUTUBE videos etc…
I guess i can see why, lots of ppl think it is harmless to use the artworks for personal use. ‘It’s just me and my buddies’ type of mentality. Not a big deal…
It is though. This issue is about respect.
If people really appreciate a piece of artwork, why not ask for the artists permissions first? Even if for personal socmed, small scale use.
They dont make money (generally) from what they do, so…
Permission, credit, respect… is all people ask abt this.
What I don’t get is when called out, some gets very indignant… why? People spend hours on that piece of artwork. Some care about how it is being used more than others.
It is a fanart, but people spend their TIME on CREATING ‘em.
So, if you appreciate it, why don’t spend some time… to contact the artist, give ‘em respect they deserve…and ask for permissions, give credit and SOURCE that artwork?
Also, please do not take their inability to speak English as an advantage and/or an excuse to use the artworks without sourcing or crediting at all. That’s foul as fuck.

Art Theft (I need your help)
Two of my favorite Undertale artists left today.
The reason was because of the repeated problems of art theft they had to deal with. The stress of translating (they were Korean), asking the perpetrator to take them down, and reporting made them decide enough was enough. They had to deal with this almost DAILY.
So they chose to drop everything and leave.
I’m going to take this moment to talk about the prominent problems of art theft within the Undertale community.
I don’t plan to force my stand on this onto you, but I hope I can ask a bit of your time to read on. Because I really need your help.
To start with,
It’s when you take and repost another artist’s work without their permission (even if it’s sourced). This includes reposting, editing, using in MVs, and selling merchandise using the stolen works.
Aside from it being illegal, it is disrespectful to the artist who put in their personal time to create art for their enjoyment. It is their work and they have the rights to do what they wish to do with it. To see their work being used without their permission violates their ownership. It is natural to feel uncomfortable about art THEFT.
This is the part where I would like to ask for your help. I love Undertale and wish for it to be a healthy community for all, globally. But I am only one person who happens to speak both Korean and English.
So, if you see a site/video/merchandise/etc without permission to the original artist, please take the following steps:

She was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer this past summer. For anyone who doesn’t know much about pancreatic cancer, it has the highest mortality rate of all forms of cancer, with no known patients ever being cured of it completely. Our family has been given an overwhelming amount of support from friends, family, and even complete strangers which we are so grateful for. However, chemo treatment and medicine costs a LOT of money, and it’s hard to us to manage only surviving on my father’s paycheck. The affidavits were not counted or even remotely taken into account, and just like Arizona, Hillary swept the vote with numbers not even remotely congruent with Gallup polls and voter surveys. And since she's the establishment, zero scrutinizing will take place, voter fraud will continuously dominate this election, and the lemmings that vote for her will inevitably buy into the establishment time and time again.
