thinking about the period of time between the mechanisms performing DTTM and their deaths actually occurring...

thinking about how the mechanisms know how they die but they might not know when they die or in what order.

thinking about them trying to prevent each other's deaths. none of them wants to be the last to go.

raphaella begs the others not to leave marius alone on the ship. tim refuses to leave ashes's side in the hopes he can stop the accident from happening. brian pilots them around pockets of temporal instability and away from backwater asteroids. marius pleads with ivy not to retire. nobody talks about how they die in front of the toy soldier. they don't want to make it sad.

jonny selfishly seeks out bar fights, hoping this time it will finally be the one, and he won't have to watch his friends disappear one by one until a milllenia has passed since the last time he laughed. even if the others mourn him, he doesn't want to still be alive when the rest of his crew are all gone.

none of them know for sure who dies first, but they all know who they don't want it to be, and they all hope it's themselves instead.

i know we talk about crowdsing no children all the time and it is fantastic and I do love it but ever since I heard the woke up new 06-15-2014 bottom of the hill crowdsing I've wanted nothing so bad as that. it's a song about being profoundly lost and lonely in such a specific way that you can't imagine what tomorrow looks like and you feel like nobody else could ever understand it. and the crowd sang it together. so many people all together alone but mostly just together no one voice distinct in collective anon, this piercing individual loneliness cried out by so many; and I sang, oh, what do I do, what do I do, what do I do? what do I do without you?

i will never ever ever ever ever ever get over the gang's first interactions with lucretia in the first lunar interlude. griffin is playing the Regal and Very Serious and Deadpan Madame Director, and they're all meeting her for the first time. they have absolutely 0 rapport with each other, but she plays along with their jokes, and even makes jokes of her own. other NPCs are actively annoyed by their goofs, but not the Director. shes Regal and Serious and Sarcastic and Familiar.

and griffin probably wasn't planning this far ahead at that point, but knowing what comes next. knowing how it ends... it all just lends itself so perfectly to the fact that these interactions are Lucretia Reuniting With Her Friends. realistically she's a stranger to them, but they get along so well and so immediately, that on re-listens it really does make you think "they are her best friends, there's nothing else it could be. they are long lost friends."

not that this is anything new, but I keep thinking about the Starblaster takeoff. I mean, like, to be a person who volunteers for that sort of mission, you do need to be at least a little bit ready to die, you know? Whether or not you admit that to yourself. And we see that Magnus will throw himself into the line of fire for anything, we see Davenport so dedicated to the mission that of course he'd readily put his life on the line, we see Merle already old and looking for a new adventure, we see the researchers and writer so curious and driven (perhaps in part by the Light) that they simply needed to be here, no matter the cost.

and what a delicious irony it is. to board your ship, ready to die for the world, and instead watch the entire world die while you survive.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone draw her hair with anything other than like white and/or dark brown and black. I really enjoy this look she has for the Stolen Century arc!! I think pink fits her (I’m extremely biased bc I love her and my fav color is pink)
