There’s a lot of jagged edges around events from his life that he wishes remained buried. But for the first time, Ryland has the opportunity to bring light to even the darkest corners, and create a stronger foundation for the relationships in his one-of-a-kind, wild ride of a life.

I feel like we (well, I) need to dig deeper into "it's been a while since I've taken pills from a stranger" Ryland Grace. Yes, he gets easily embarrassed, but only by compliments and genuine affection. this man has Seen Stuff at parties. Arguing with academics by day and maniacally seeking human connection and closeness in the form of crowded dorm room parties by night. Running on 3 hours of sleep and the high of someone touching his shoulder while placing a pill on his tongue. Disappearing into the crowd if things get too intimate. Rinse and repeat.

so many great things about the “i’d let him do open heart surgery on me if he wanted” quote, but i love that it’s another case of grace displacing his wants onto the other person. so he doesn’t have to be rejected. does stratt want me to work on the project? do my friends want me at the party? does the scientific community want me at the conference? does rocky want to do surgery on me? mf do YOU want these things?? can you take ownership of your own desires…
