Hannibal’s relationship with god is really interesting bc on one hand, I feel like he’s this little toddler, mimicking a parent as he runs around in their suit and tie, pretending to do paperwork — or murdering innocents in this case. Finger painting blood and getting it all over himself before holding it up to the sky with this toothy little grin and being like “look, dad! Aren’t you proud of me?” Basically doing “god’s work” as he sees it.

But on the other, I also feel like he’s rebelling against god, in a way. Like some kind of classy, rebellious teenager. He’s staying out late, turning the ugliness of those lacking in social graces into ethereal, macabre works of art. Holding up both his middle fingers while blasting an angelic hymn in his room like “SEE, I CAN DO IT TOO. YOU’RE NOT FUCKING SPECIAL DAD”
