nanowrimo day 2 excerpt
The dirt beneath the plant is less dirt and more rock. The scrub nearby is not quite green. Sharp, small fragments of white rock dig into your palm where it rests to support you. You know these are your own teeth, spit out on impact with the ground. Your hand sits in your lap, limp and useless. You stare at the cactus, the Wrong cactus, and the lump in your throat becomes a sharp and pointed intrusion. You cough, the intrusion rattling and vibrating with the sound of it. You clear your throat. It doesn’t help. You do not even need to verbalize the complete Fear, the emotion piercing through your mind faster than you can pin words into sentences. There is only the pang, deep in your gut, and the intrusion in your throat turned malicious. You gasp, and feel something sharp rake along the soft palate of the back of your throat.
Fanfic writers be like: goddamnit, this idea is so fucking sad it’s making me cry just thinking about it. Let me write it down so I can inflict it on others.
nano day 2 excerpt
You have always been here. There is no Script, only the vast expanse of a barren desert in all directions. The world lacks a horizon, and, yet, you are distinctly aware of an unforgiving Sky stretched above you. Light blooms from all directions, casting a radio-static shadow in one direction or other, until you look at it and then it jumps to cast someplace else. You shade your eyes with your good hand, then become aware of the fact you have a “good hand,” currently. Your limp arm tingles and buzzes with the lack of breeze, pickling and tanning in the harsh light of the desert sky. Your breath hitches at the memory of a car, a driver too-close, and you sit down hard on the dirt. Your good hand braces against the ground, offering some semblance of stability, though you wobble and teeter regardless. Your vision is tunneled, black vignette filtering your world through a narrowed lens, and you wheeze around the prickling lump in your throat. You glance to a cactus, nearby, and Know it is Wrong. You study it, fixated, desperate for any excuse to avoid the present panic which grips you.
nanowrimo excerpt day 1
Hyp sits alone in the vast expanse of barren desert, an angry sun beaming down and blood beading on every inch of bare skin. He spits out dirt and fractured fragments of bone, or tries to, but it sticks to his lower lip and he resigns himself to wiping it off with his bare wrist. He doesn’t remember being left-handed. Maybe he’s ambidextrous. He knows how to draw, that’s where the anatomy comes from. He cannot recall how Dream rendered meat textures before he learned to place muscles underneath skin to structure a face. He had certainly been stabbed, gutted, and flayed apart before today. It was always meat, wasn’t it? Hyp’s sweat stains the front of his shirt, a wet patch under both his arms and running the length of his collar. Fucking heat. He doesn’t even recoginize the driver of the car, somewhere off in the distance and steering with a fractured forearm. Saltwater catches on his eyelashes, and turns dust on the back of his hand to mud when he drags it across his eyes once more.
Happy (Belated) Creator Day!!!!
gender ramblings presented in zine format
Just in time for the day, and a little too late in the evening to promote properly, I have finished the second edition of my very first zine -- The Feminine Urge to be a Man! You can read it in the browser, or download your own copies.

SMALL UPDATE!
Today, I set aside some time to finish my first game in a LONG time: Entomology Simulator! A lot of folks loved playtesting it and I think there's some real potential. So, first on the chopping block, is how to generate all those bugs! I initially created exactly 52 bugs, to coincide with a deck of physical playing cards. However, I believe I can vastly improve replayability value if I make the bugs completely randomly generated. So, I whipped up all the turn-taking and time-tracking and expedition-progressing code this afternoon. Tomorrow, I'm going to finish up the random bug generator (an easy series of arrays and temp variables) and fix that freaky annoying if/elseif!else error on the turn-ender. Hopefully that will finally free up the ability to create the bugpoint calculator -- i have to decide if i want users to input bug names and have the program spit out a value, or have the value pre-paired to specific phrases as a datamap to be pulled from at specific positions. we'll see!
worst case, i can create a datamap of pre-generated names like from the BugTables and stick with 52 bugs only. and their precalculated values. Less room for error, but also less variety. Decisions decisions!
Zine Updates!
1. Fair Game is now available!
Fair Game is a rigged DIY activity zine ("playzine") released in honor of all the carnival games we couldn't win in childhood. A single-sided sheet of letter paper transforms into a playset of 5 carnival games & 2 panels of cut-&-play game pieces, including moveable game elements, prizes, and tickets to return to the fair anytime.
2. Who's Haunting My Headphones? is now available!!
A total fucking mess!! A speculative, introspective zine about what it means to die online and also what it means to be advertiser unfriendly.
3. Diagnosis is now in progress!
This perzine is a half-letter essay-centric zine detailing my experiences as a closeted trans man seeking medical attention for symptoms of chronic illness which affect my quality of life to this day.
4. Who's Afraid of Cishet Queers?, To What Do I Owe These Ruins?, Collateral Damage, and The Fool's Errand are all on temporary hold
Who's Afraid of Cishet Queers is on hold due to the sheer depth of necessary rhetoric rigor in order to communicate my argument effectively
To What Do I Owe These Ruins? is on hold due to its lack of development, its liberal incorporation of illustrations, and and its narrative weight.
Collateral Damage is on hold because it makes my head hurt, vaguely, but specifically because the headspace required to write Rick Sanchez in character in the same room as Stanley Pines is uhhh migrain inducing. I love this pairing but god help me, they're insufferable even while fucking.
The Fool's Errand is on hold until Thomas finishes the guided meditations and then I can write our retrospective and then we can package it all up for print.
Novel Updates!?
That's right, I'm drafting my novel (finally). It has been in development for over 3 years, and now is ready for the real test of mettle -- banging out the events scene by scene and inserting believable dialogue! I'll likely construct a page element exclusively for posting writing updates, teasers, and tidbits of world building abt my novel! It's the first of at least 5 books in a series, with potentially more on the way! How exciting!!
more ideas for my projects!!!but theyve got a lot less rigor and less work done!

para-antisocial: an essay examination of bad faith antagonism towards online content creators in current year
even MORE ideas!
a minecraft short story about loneliness
a short pillowtalk narrative exploration of queerness using stanchez

Start Date: May 5th, 2022

Project Type: Collected Essays in Quarter-Fold Zine Format
Might be shooting myself in the foot with this one, but, I feel it needs be created. I believe policing/gatekeeping queerness is always detrimental to solidarity and unifying efforts within the community...but in absence of definitive lines and labels, how do we even decide who "belongs" under the umbrella? "Who's Afraid of Cishet Queers?" is thus an exploratory series of essays envisioning a radically inclusive definition of queerness in a post-same-sex-marriage United States.
