This is often cited as the single most powerful feat in bending in the entire franchise, and I’m inclined to agree. Kyoshi Island also manages to wind up quite a distance from the mainland–let’s assume it’s still on the continental shelf, otherwise MY GOD–and is large enough to sustain a reasonably-sized village with agriculture. Unless there’s an earthbending equivalent of the great comet going on, this is nuts. Avatar Kyoshi also lived to 230 years old. All of this begs the question to me–what the hell was up with her? Did she get a spirit-world power boost or something? These things are all very much outside the norm, even in a world of such extraordinary people. What’s everybody’s theory on this?

My thought has always been that Kyoshi was one of the few Avatars that was completely at peace with who and what she was.  Every other Avatar we’ve seen – even the best of them like Aang and Korra – are conflicted over what they have to do and how they do it.  Guilt and self-loathing over their responsibilities and actions, regret over what they could have done better.

Kyoshi, however, never doubted herself.  Even without being arrogant, she always saw that what she did had to be done.  She took what were the only options.  You see this even in the advice she gives to subsequent Avatars: Be decisive.  Be final.  Commit.

Because of that, she was one of the few (Maybe only) Avatars who was able to completely encompass the powers available to them.  No part of her subconsciously didn’t want to use them.  There was no hesitancy buried so deep that she even didn’t realize it,   Unlike Aang, or Roku, or Koruk, or Korra, or Yangchen, or even Wan, she was able to give herself over totally to whatever she was doing and hold nothing back.

That’s why she was able to accomplish feats of bending and skill that no other Avatar could equal: Because she, alone of all the Avatars, had she SHEER CHUTZPHA to do it.

something I came up with recently, but i’m sure it’s been done by others, I just wanted to share just in case this method worked for someone else too: I actually had a dream about this. I saw the water, dark and blue, and then the rune chips falling in, bouncing around and then floating up revealing their message. Depending on how you want to mix them, is completely up to you, but with the shrinky dinks, they don’t really float, so i’ll close my eyes and stir them with my hands a bit. Wooden chips SHOULD float, (i’m currently making some. check below for links to resources) and my plan with them is to hold them in their container, ask the question and send out the energy and then dump them into the water. Whatever floats face up is part of the answer/explanation. Now, as for the results, it could really be up to your interpretation, but how I read it is: Rune in the center reflects the question/subject of the question. Also the rune to invoke to help with this question/issue at hand. The runes face up, and around the center, are meant to help, aid, or give you guidance to see it through. The runes that are obstructed by others can be perceived as problems that could make it so the issue can’t be resolved, or things that need to be resolved first before the main issue can be taken care of. Note: For wooden runes, probably want to seal, but if you’re ok with making more, can just use as is, you just need to dry them off afterwards, For Shrinky Dink, the sharpie marker will reactivate after baking, so draw the rune on one side and then spray paint/paint that same side to lock it in, but be careful as it can/will smear. However, you can also write with the sharpie on one side, spray paint the other and it should still keep the sharpie on there after baking. Once my friend Henry was accused of wearing wireless headphones by a substitute so she said for him to hand them over so he took them off and handed them to her. Then later on she asked him a question and he didn’t respond so she said it louder and he still didn’t respond. My sister once had her insulin pump ripped off of her because her exam proctor (a sub) thought it was some cheating device. He soon figured out that it was, in fact, not, when the port on her side (the place the needle goes in) started bleeding through her shirt. Her pump started beeping frantically, because that’s what it does, and it was general chaos until my sister ripped what’s basically her pancreas out of his hands, told her friend “Let the next proctor know I’ll need extra time,” and walked out of the room towards the nurse.

Literally schools are shit with disabilities. In elementary school I was having a high blood sugar reaction(cold sweats to rapid passing in and out of consciousness, vomiting and finally leading to a massive seizure before you die) and I KNEW I had to go to the nurse cuz I was getting worse. Kept telling my teach I needed to go and he kept saying no till finally I felt myself about to throw up and I’m screaming LET ME GO (i was a little kid to me i couldnt do anything in an institution without an adults say so or id basically go to hell) and the bitch said SHUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH AND PAY ATTENTION TO THE LESSON where I proceeded to projectile vomit all over my desk and he jut kept going on with the lesson. Finally I just booked it out of the room but I was too far gone to even REMEMBER where the nurses office was let alone where the hell I was that my class literally just left and helped me to the nurses office. I immediately went to the hospital and officially died for 5 minutes before I was revived. I could have stayed dead all because some fuck twad thought his lesson was more important than a students life

After Columbine, a local school installed metal detectors and made everyone walk through them and put their bags on a table for a teacher to search. 

A few days into the school year, a teacher ripped a boy’s insulin pump off him because she thought it was a weapon, despite he and his sister insisting it was an insulin pump and he needed it to live.

I don’t know how many of you are still in school but I have some valuable knowledge that might actually help with this problem! In the United States there’s this thing called a 504 Plan that you can get which basically gives you legal protection from disability/chronic illness discrimination in public schools. 

Students can qualify for 504 plans if they have physical or mental impairments that affect or limit any of their abilities to: walk, breathe, eat, or sleep; communicate, see, hear, or speak; read, concentrate, think, or learn; stand, bend, lift, or work

 Examples of accommodations in 504 plans include: preferential seating, extended time on tests and assignments, reduced homework or classwork, verbal, visual, or technology aids, modified textbooks or audio-video materials, behavior management support, adjusted class schedules or grading, verbal testing, excused lateness, absence, or missed classwork

 I’m a type one diabetic and my school nurse would do stuff like keep all my meds in a locked cabinet, not let me take my insulin or test my blood sugar unless she was watching me, and lie to my mother about me inducing low blood sugars in order to get out of class. She wouldn’t even let me keep glucagon (emergency sugar injection) on my person in case I passed out from low blood sugar. 

 So one day I casually mentioned all this to my endocrinologist and she was really mad. She was really angry at the school nurse for mistreating me like that and informed me of this thing called a 504 plan. A 504 plan protects students with disabilities and chronic illnesses from discrimination by outlining exactly what a student needs to meet their special needs. For me, this meant I had to be able to keep ahold of my own meds in case of emergency and keep track of my own glucose levels, that I would never be marked late for a class if I was busy treating a low, and I could pause the clock on a standardized test to check my blood sugar and treat it. If you have a disability and you’re still attending public school, PLEASE read up on 504 plans because they saved me so much grief when I was still in school. It might help you too. Norse Magic: A Simplified Introduction

The terms “seiðr”, “spá”, and “galdr” are a few of the terms that get thrown around when discussing Norse magic. What do all of these words mean?

For starters, “seiðr”, “spá”, and “galdr” are not different words for the same type of practice. While these can all fit together, and usually those that do one often do the other, they each hold individual roles in Norse magic.

Seiðr

Seiðr, at its basic form, is trance induced magic that can be done while soul traveling the nine worlds. You can alter your destiny or even affect the destiny of others. If you are familiar with chaos magic, seiðr is like a school of shamanistic chaos magic (for example you can control your reality through actions done in trance work instead of through sigils). You can make use of energy work and heal yourself or others, alter someone’s opinion, thoughts, or actions concerning a certain situation, and even commune with the gods themselves and act as a channel for them to speak through. There is so much more concerning seiðr that can’t be covered in this paragraph, but will be expanded upon in future entries.

Spá

Spá or spá-craft is the art of seeing one’s fate. Just like the work of a seer, a spákona or spámaðr is able to tap into the threads of one’s fate, seeing what is to come or what they and their ancestors have experienced in the past.

Galdr

Galdr, meaning “incantation”, is the practice that uses the chants or songs of runes when practicing runic magic. Since you are working with focused vibrational energy, the practice of galdr can be extremely powerful when used properly.

While these are tremendously simplified descriptions of tremendously complex practices, it’s a good jumping off point for the different articles I’m going to write that will further explain them in detail. In future entries, I’ll start with discussing the foundations of seiðr and sharing ways in which you can start learning how to utilize it in your practice. Eventually, I will have articles concerning spá-craft and galdr. I look forward to sharing what I’ve experienced with everyone!

Stage one of my new divination method. I thought these might float, but only one or two do. Still there method works, because you have runes in the water and using your hands, just stuff through them until you feel it's time to open your eyes. The runes closest to the center are at the heart of your issue/question the ones surrounding that are influences, and ones that are obscured are issues you're dealing with. Next will be sealed wood chips.

Dreams

Last night I woke up, and all of my art of the Norse Gods was turned into tigers. Except, the images weren’t gone, just that what I could see in the dark were outlines of roaring tigers. Lately i’ve been wanting to get back on a more strict path with my Norse studies and art. I love comics and video games, but there’s been something calling to me. 

For instance, i’ve always wanted to make an oracle card deck, maybe even out of the norse gods art, but that means i need to pick it back up again. so tonight I decided to experiment with something and it turned out better than I expected.  the star nebula background is from ESA/Hubblle, but the painted tiger and moons is by me.
