It felt strange to have someone to share a secret like this with— it wasn’t as if others knew he lived within the Clockwork City, and certainly he didn’t have family visit. Sulkan had done all he could to clean his home and to try and wash as much as the oil from his clothes as he could manage. The fabricants had been ushered out into the garden to run around rather than poke around (or, three forbid, frighten his guest). Halanor had already seen his mount, but perhaps it was best not to push anything too much.
Dinner was meat, or as much as he could manage, though it was Vvardenfell fare; almost dumpling like things stuffed with fish (usually vegetables as well, but it was good to be cautious). For something so simple, his heart beat in his throat, and the Dunmer simply poked around at his food. Eating too quickly was rude.
“Uhm… is it alright— a-all of this, I mean…”
The bosmer wasn't quite sure what to expect out of the Clockwork City. He'd seen clocks– at least the Summerset variety– and had certainly become accustomed to Sulkan's mechanical nix-ox. But seeing the place in person... plants and animals and even people made of metal... it truly was another world. Everything about it overwhelmed his senses: the reflections off the metal, the scent of oil assaulting his nose, the very air weighing down his lungs.
But just when he thought it would be too much... there was Sul. The dunmer became his anchor in this new and strange place, and Hal felt nothing but honored the dunmer would share it with him.
It wasn't until his host set food before him that Hal noticed... he'd been staring at the mer the entire time they'd been together. (Of course, he hadn't noticed Sul's nerves... only his strikingly handsome ruby eyes. Not that he could rightly say that out loud.) Brown cheeks flushed, and he stuffed another bite of dumpling into his mouth.
"It's wonderful," he hummed. Hal dared a look up, a lop-sided smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. "I... could get used t' a meal like this." He paused. "More than get used to. I..." He cleared his throat. "You're a very good cook, Sul."
