Me when the story that obviously isn’t going to have a happy ending doesn’t have a happy ending
You know the part in Pride and Prejudice where Mr Darcy says "I'm in no mood to give consequence to young ladies who are slighted by other men"? In other words, he means "I don't want to dance with a girl just because no one else will." (There was a shortage of men at the time because War, so this was a real problem.)
That reflects a bigger part of Darcy's character that I've not seen pointed out much. He's rich and handsome. All the ladies want to marry him because he's rich. He's a Hot Commodity. Problem is, he doesn't want to be a Hot Commodity. He wants to be Liked for his own sake.
Just as he doesn't want to marry a girl who needs him for his wealth, he doesn't want to dance with a girl just because she needs a partner. He wants someone to care for him personally.
Then here comes Lizzy who basically says "I don't care how rich and handsome you are, I want someone who respects me and who I can honestly admire, and even when you dance with me I'd rather psychoanalyze you than engage in pointless flirtation, because I want to know your real self."
No wonder bro fell so hard.
fantasy really did cook with dragons as an allegory for weapons of mass destruction, more specifically as a symbolic manifestation of the insatiable greed that drives men to seek to claim ownership and control over such weapons
like oh man i sure hope your dismissal and objectification of highly independent and intelligent beings as "savage beasts" and the fiercely possessive pride you take in their subjugation doesn't reflect your broader ideological values haha. can you even imagine.

it's literally so tragic when a specific fictional character completely reshapes your taste in media and makes you write differently forever but they're from a series that, as far as you can tell, has only ever been read by you, two other people on goodreads, and a ball of lint
randomly getting intensely interested in some bullshit like
Mr Darcy as a character is so dear to me because he's been bastardized so much in the era of booktok shadow daddies and every regency book tries and fails to recreate what makes him good.
I will scream it from the rooftops and to everyone that listens.
Mr Darcy isn't evil!!! He isn't a shadow daddy!! Mr Darcy isn't some fratbro who changes because of a woman!!
People seem to forget that Jane Austen lived through all the drama and gossip of that era. Her books are mostly dramatized versions of people she really met or heard about. Jane Austen wrote about her own time and its issues, so he has met people like Mr Darcy. Men that were guarded because people have used them for their money, some might even crossed with Jane or her sisters. I can believe it wasn't that uncommon, isolated men that didn't have the people skills you needed in those circles.
One vital thing people need to realize is the redemption Mr Darcy does. It's not an evil man turns less evil. It's about a man who swallows his PRIDE to fix what was right. He truly apologizes in action without excuses, just with explanations.
There's something so human about Mr Darcy that I love but a lot people don't seem to see. You have been andnwill be like Mr Darcy. You will and have judge people trough yoyr experiences and traumas. Not many apologize like him though.
And if the netflix adaptation makes him into some booktok hero, I will beat netflix CEO with a mallet.
i’m sorry i’m laughing but this gif set is usually paired with Anakin being a good kind person which makes it sad, but a perspective of Obi Wan telling Luke blatant lies is hilarious
people on instagram/tiktok love to make videos like "i was rewatching avatar the last airbender and i bet you never considered that—" let me stop you right there. i have considered that.
Dean: The whole Cas thing must be pretty shocking huh
Mary: Not really, you had a crush on a little boy at your preschool
Dean, choking on his beer: what
Mary: *shrugs*
Dean: I was talking about angels being real?????
Mary: Oh. Yeah that was pretty weird

I keep thinking about Syl in the Way of Kings and her life is so funny, but also horrific. You are Syl. You are dealing with the mortifying ordeal of gaining concience. Every day you learn or remember new things without any way to control it. You have five new existential crises every week.
But not to worry! You have a guide to all this, a human who is there to help you! And it's the world's most depressed man who, frankly, doesn't give a damn. And there is a weird expectation of your mutual responcibility for teaching and helping each other that none of you are fulfilling and you are aware that you are not fulfilling it and it sucks, but also this is clearly a problem so beyond you capabilities that you don't know where to start...
