im sorry but none of us get to look away from currently ongoing genocide if we are to claim we give a shit about the sanctity of human life. the only people that will benefit from that ignorance are the perpetrators of the genocide that is, again, currently happening. no its not a complex topic. yes it is a heavy one. but knowing even the basics about this situation will go a long way in not helping spread propaganda and inevitable genocide denial bullshit rhetoric the groundworks already been laid for. theres a lot that we owe to those two million palestinian civillians trapped in the gaza strip, their deaths practically signed off by every government that declared solidarity with israel's ceaselessly ongoing ethnic cleansing efforts. and simply knowing general facts on what is going on is the bare minimum all of us should readily give them.
And bodies, whether living or dead, decay continuously. Our topmost layer of skin is dead. Our hair is dead. Bacteria, fungus, and germs thrive in just about every nook and cranny they can find. The smell of body odor is, in fact, the smell of these bacteria feasting on fatty compounds secreted by our sweat glands. And yet, bodies are sexy, not in spite of the fact that we are decaying but exactly, I think, because we are.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what ‘The Woods’ is. It’s obviously a secret superhuman experimentation lab located somewhere beneath the school, but in available episodes we have, also, seen flashes of a dense forest with light peaking through. The same image seems to be placed in every cell, too. Based on Sam’s cell.
So, it’s seemingly an alternate dimension, too. The teaser hints at this showing Marie, Andre, Jordan and Dusty entering ‘The Woods’ with the Dusty’s disintegrating wall that Rufus got slammed through.
This might be out there but from Episode 6’s teaser I think Cate might be responsible for creating ‘The Woods’. It has been shown that she can alter memories and influence individuals. And, she doesn’t seemingly need to touch people either to use her powers based on the ending events of Episode 4.
So, could it be that she is capable of creating this dimension, ‘The Woods’, so scientists can control Supes? Dr. Cardosa, this episode (5) reveals more regarding the lab’s mission, or at least his life’s work. Being able to control (read:subjugate) Superhumans. Therefore, we can assume that ‘The Woods’ is a dimension aimed on making Supes compliant by making subjects experience psychological fragmentation/torture of sorts. As seen with Sam.
It is implied from the teaser that there is something within Cate, that only Marie can get out, so I assume that there might be something implanted in Cate to make her compliant (?) or perhaps to amplify her power (?).
Lastly, why I associate ‘The Woods’ dimension with Cate is her anecdote about her brother. She says that she ‘grabbed him by the arm and told him to go away…he just walked right into the woods’ (Episode 3). This might be coincidental, but given this series’ love for foreshadowing, perhaps not.
— this might, also, be totally obvious, or totally wrong lol. Just love all the little clues (even in the environment and clever dialogue). Now, to figure out who is Marie’s mysterious benefactor…
It’s wilder than that. You feel the temperature drop around you. Animals start to freak out cause they think night has fallen. Even more crazy is shadow snakes. Where you see the shadows around you start to shimmer. Kind of like the shadows of atmospheric disturbances you see during really hot days or near a fire.
You can learn more about this in SmarterEveryDay’s video
And here’s a video that captures the shadow snakes
Also, the overall tone of the light is wrong and it’s almost impossible to articulate why.
It’s not dark per se, but the light doesn’t just seem dimmed, it seems like it’s in a different spectrum.
It feels like when a movie puts a filter over the film to indicate that something very very bad is happening, like an eldritch horror has arrived offscreen, and the bad light is slowly sucking your soul out of your body, only it’s real life, and the bad light permeates everywhere.
took this on my porch during the partial solar eclipse in 2017. those crescent-shaped shadows are because that’s just what the sun was doing. they were everywhere. it was wild
Also if you’re even slightly sensitive to barometric pressure you can physically feel it drop like a ROCK the minute the sun fades. It’s one of the spookiest feelings I’ve ever had.
Remember everyone that there is going to be a solar eclipse NEXT YEAR (2024) on the 8th of April, which will hit large portions of the eastern US, so now is as good a time as any to see if its within reach of you, and make travel arrangements if so
christianity has a tendency to mythologize suffering as something so built into the world that the oppressed can only escape their oppression by eschatological means- that the kingdom of God's arrival, the end of days, is the only opportunity for oppression to end. but christ said the kingdom of God is among you: i doubt the long-held notion of eschatology implicitly, because if oppression could only be destroyed with the destruction of everything then christ would not have set down his woodworker's tools and gone out into the world to heal the sick, feed the hungry, give company to the lonely, take bread with the broken, and suffer. it's easy to want a warrior with a flaming sword to cut the bonds of oppressive mortality and overthrow the broken system once and for all. dorothy day was right, somebody has got to do the dishes. i think jesus would do the dishes. i think he doesn't want us to sit around waiting for the end of everything. i think he knows we are capable of breaking oppression's chains ourselves- why else would God come to us a man?
"Any religion that professes to be concerned about the souls of men and is not concerned about the slums that damn them, the economic conditions that strangle them and the social conditions that cripple them is a spiritually [dying] religion awaiting burial."
The child naively believes that everything should be fair and everyone should be honest, that only good should prevail, that everybody should have what they want and there should be no pain or sadness. The child believes the world should be perfect and is outraged to discover it is not.
“Westerners are fond of the saying ‘Life isn’t fair.’ Then, they end in snide triumphant: ‘So get used to it!’ What a cruel, sadistic notion to revel in! What a terrible, patriarchal response to a child’s budding sense of ethics. Announce to an Iroquois, ‘Life isn’t fair,’ and her response will be: ‘Then make it fair!’”

that some people respond to any well-foreshadowed reveal with “ugh that plot twist was so predictable” proves bad faith criticism has rotted their brains to the point they think it’s bad writing if they can correctly identify information the writers were intentionally giving them
like you do realise that the entire point of set up and pay off is that you’re supposed to pick up on the clues the writers give you right? you do understand that plot twists only work when they retroactively make sense bc there were hints building up to the reveal right??
Some people engage with stories as if it's a competition where their job is to demonstrate that they're the smartest person in the room. These people aren't worth listening to about media.
I was reading Ordinary Vices by Judith shklar and went down a whole rabbit hole about how we naturally reject the existence of Cruelty and as society we naturally seek to eliminate it on a long scale.
Once we recognize something as Cruel it's days are truly numbers. Because in the same way we react to maggots or death, we have this physical reaction that tells us something is wrong because otherwise why would we discribe to be cruel? That because of this instinctual recoiling from it we know it is truly Wrong. And cannot live long term, it will end. Because we are built to build and seek and work for comfort for ourselves and for others.
The other thing this paper points out is that up until right after factory work takes off and then again as then Office job takes over that most of human socializing is done through partipating in Work in groups and hanging out while you work.
Weaving baskets or making clothing in groups sharing chatter or stories as you work, gathering harvest in groups where you at least laugh over the midday meal together, building large buildings requires so many people they definitely hung out.
The social circles of high society even did this, socializing while hosting in the off season and there being an entire social season. Proving they should be in charge of governing to each other.
Tradesmen having guilds or clubs to hang out with ppl in the same profession, what we deem household chores done by groups- see sending out laundry to get cleaned even when you where in the lower class of things bc of the equipment and time needed for the work
Making houses or barns is done in groups of at least 5+ people who are sharing meals and breaks and offering opinions and sharing personal stories between each other.
Even things like rowing a big ship or heavy physically demanding work people sing together!! Work songs must've provided a sense of unity with the people around you even if we see their practical use of keeping the group in time with one another.
And then at some point, you where not supposed to be Human at work anymore????
Don't socialize at work, be a good employee and give that Big Smile. Don't /actually/ share how your weekend was. If you can lean, you can clean and you better not talk to your coworker while you do it. No one cares if your batista is having a bad day suddenly, no one wants to see anything other then the plastic smile from fast food employees or secretaries.
Very quickly we've become very isolated on a mass scale. The entire globe having been socially starved for 2 whole generations now, and getting more and more isolated as a result leaving us all in this semi cabin fever state thinking its our own faults when it's just that we've been chronically under socialized as a planet. We all know what happens when a singular person is isolated too long. You get your Wilson's, humans effectively go crazy in isolation because we're social creatures. Just like how our brains become anxious if it doesn't see running water for a few days, can you imagine what an entire generation of isolation does to the brain??
