i know most leftists agree that everybody should have a right to food, water, shelter, and healthcare but i think a vitally important fifth pillar is privacy. people should not be compelled to be tracked, monitored, or to share personal space with others to access their other essential rights
pick up that non-fiction book
not all of us can live in fantasy 100% the time like i see some people on here do and it's refreshing to learn something new. its been philosophy, essays, and history for me and i feel much more at home on planet Earth for it knowing that people have been struggling and wishing similarly for millenia.
its not that fiction doesnt have its place, its important and healthy to exercise the imagination, but non-fiction can do so much to boost and supplement that. if not for yourself, for your art or for the people you're around
"representation matters!" but you wont read or engage with non-fiction works about any demographic outside your own
this version of the post doesnt seem to be getting much traction but this is arguably the most important reason why we should be reading nonfiction in addition to fiction
I feel like a lot of people think they know what antisemitism looks like: slurs, racialized caricatures, Nazi salutes, vandalism…
And antisemitism can look like all of those things.
But sometimes it looks like my cousin and his fiancée canceling their wedding in favor of elopement because her parents, who purportedly had no problems with my cousin before, aren’t okay with their daughter actually marrying a Jew.
That’s antisemitism, too, and it and situations like it actually happen far more often than the obvious stuff people think of when Jews talk about antisemitism. Because antisemitism doesn’t have to look criminal to be real and to hurt. Sometimes antisemitism looks like violence. But a lot of the time it just looks like blowing off your own kid’s wedding.
Antisemitism looks like gentiles having a conversation about what antisemitism looks like directly in front of me and cutting me out of the conversation to pat themselves on the back
Antisemitism looks like my old friends making excuses about what they can say or do because they knew me

Like okay, you've got the species whose rulers live their entire lives in a dark room with no furniture to symbolise their commitment. Yes, exactly! I'm a software engineer but I got my start in software testing, and the first thing I wanted to know when I read this was "why was this done on a machine with an internet connection?" Yes, it's in a sandbox but models have broken out of (poorly configured?) sandboxes in the past. Why isn't there an air gap?
So, yes, it's hype. It's doomtrolling. It's a marketing stunt, and you can tell it's a marketing stunt because it was announced by an AI company. Everything they say is marketing because they cannot figure out how to monetise their product and they need to keep the investors impressed until they do. It's an "I can tell you're lying because your mouth is moving"-type situation; do not believe them.
I think there's something that needs to be said about encouraging readers to leave feedback.
For me it's not about "tell me my writing is amazing and stroke my ego"
It's more about "please engage with me so that I can experience your joy secondhand and foster a connection with you"
I understand that not everyone wants this in their reading experience, some people are shy and a million other reasons why maybe someone wouldn't want to engage and that's perfectly fine!
But what I'm trying to steer away from is being a passive content creator with passive consumers. What I want to steer toward is fostering a community that is essential to fandom. I want to see your reactions because it makes me feel like I'm a part of something.

I understand that not everyone is comfortable reblogging, especially explicit content. This is ok!
But just consider that the only reason you were able to enjoy a fic or fanart is because someone else shared it, and by not sharing it yourself you are potentially robbing someone else of the opportunity to enjoy it as much as you did.
As OPs our reach only goes so far and this website relies on reblogs in order for anything to truly get seen by a wider audience.
So that's really it! That's why I encourage these two things at the end of every story I post. Not because I'm trying to be demanding and "make people feel bad" if they don't do it.
I know most other social media sites encourage mindless content consumption and that's just the way of the world nowadays, but I am from a time when community was at the heart of fandom and I just don't want to lose that.
