My part of an art trade with nyotasu on instagram!
Lately i‘ve been really struggling with doing art because no matter what i drew it just didn‘t looked great to me. I‘m glad that i was finally able to finish my part of the art trade which took forever ngl -w-
The conversation was short x))
I know that skarrs tie up their antennae, but Gurr is an outcast here, so… Besides, antennae are a crucial organ for ants' sense of smell. And also for touch, taste, navigation, identification, and communication. Gurr simply has no reason to deprive himself of it x)
Below the step-by-step process used for this commission, if you're interested!
1- after discussing about the character's design with my client and using the reference images provided, I re-drew the character in my own style, making my own reference image before starting to work on the animation
Rhea is a half weaver half mantis. She can switch between showing traits closer to one species or the other (wings vs spider legs, ...)
Originally, in her design she only had a cape. I took the initiative to try and design an alternative clothing, because I was worried the cape might have interfered with the back limbs.
However, while drawing this reference, I realized that wasn't the case, so we proceeded with the cape only, as per original design
2- Once the design was confirmed, I began working on the animation. Below are some highlight moments from the process:
Over the different updates, I have adjusted the speed of the gif, the darkness of the shell to better see the lines etc
3-For the finishing touch, I re-designed Rhea's nightshade charm and adjusted the color of the cape according to my client's feedback
ps: I didn't draw the back limbs in this animation - they're supposed to be tucked away behind her back, a bit like how Hornet's back limbs are technically there but not always visible. In other scenarios, I would explicitly draw the limbs. For this walk cycle, it didn't seem necessary

I love all the different takes and designs everyone has of these characters, so I thought it would be fun to make a dtiys based off that!
I have not seen these done on tumblr before really, but I think they’re should be they’re fun :) if you don’t know how they work, it’s just in the name, redraw the same artwork in your own style (but this one has a twist) use your own designs for them!! gijinka, bug, whatever! if you don’t have your own designs just use the canon ones or borrow a friend’s! Change the composition and colours up as much as you want as well! go wild!!

Here are the flower meanings I used here, if you’d like to use the same ones or pick your own! It’s pretty hard to research this stuff from my experience, so what I have here is taken from this wikipedia article, I do hope it is accurate enough lol, a lot of the different sources I’ve found vary wildly
Lace: anemone: forsaken, sickness, brevity, withered hopes, anticipation | foxglove: insecurity, stateliness, youth, insincerity, delirium | black rose: death, hatred, despair, sorrow, mystery, danger, obsession (also just bc she already has a rose motif in the game)
