A good rule of thumb whenever a non-fiction author has "Dr." or "Phd" next to their name on the cover is to check if:
Their doctorate is real and from an accredited institution
Their doctorate is relevant to the subject matter of the book
Example 1:
Kent Hovind is not a doctor. He's a creationist conman. His "doctorate" comes from the unaccredited Christian diploma mill "Patriot University". The "propaganda in science textbooks" he's talking about is the theory of evolution.
Example 2:
Vivian King's Phd is in engineering science. She has no formal education in psychology, psychiatry, sociology, or any other field relevant to the subject matter of the book.
An author doesn't have to be an academic to have valuable insight and information to share. But if they are presenting themselves as an academic to seem more legit, but their credentials are fake or misleading, it's a big red flag.

I know I've said it before but every rewatch I do cements this thought further - elijah wood's performance in LOTR is absolutely insane, they really had a character whose name means "wise by experience", hired an 18-year-old to do it, and he delivered so much that not only is it a beautiful and moving role on its own, it's a performance equal to those of the absolute powerhouses he played side by side with like ian holm and ian mckellen. to name just a few
apparently it's not common knowledge that he was 18 at the time (insert that xkcd comic, you know which) but. yeah
"let's task this teenager with the monster assignment of portraying trauma of war in a quiet and subtle way. what can go wrong" and then somehow nothing did. because he killed the role
Also, he wasn't even on the radar of PJ and crew; Elijah Wood send them a tape of himself walking through the woods barefoot and they decided to bring him in for a screen test.

Tobias: Just look at what you did to Tris. You all drugged her. Surely you put drugs in the water.
Johanna Reyes: Young man that's total and absolutely fake. If we did, we'd never have fights. We put drugs in the bread.
ROMANCE IN MEDIA

i guess this is my official coming-out moment
So are we just going to pretend this didn’t happen… or.? WHY ARENT PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THIS?!
I would literally die
There's something hilarious about how so much subsequent media has positioned Vampires and Werewolves as, like, binary opposite entities, and then you read Dracula (1897) and realize that wolves are that guy's preferred solution to every problem. You'd say something to Dracula about "ah yes, werewolves, vampires' great eternal enemies," and he'd just be like "you mean my subcontractors?"
I'm really enjoying the growing consensus in the notes that there's an Eternal Rivalry Between Vampires and Werewolves now, entirely because the werewolves, sick of Dracula's bullshit, have unionized.
only notice good things, leave ugly things to ugly souls .

Chenle: Kun-Ge you look stressed as f*ck.
Kun: Thanks. It's the stress.
yangyang: how do tall people sleep at night when the blanket can’t possibly cover you?
lucas: yangyang… it’s 3 am
yangyang: so you can’t sleep, huh? is it because of the blanket?
Kun: Ten, what are the symptoms of teenage depression?
Ten: why?
Kun: Yangyang was doing laundry earlier and he dropped a sock then I heard him say, "why has god forsaken me?"
