in an alternate universe where everyone survives the fight with Dio, the way I see AvPol is that they'd never make it official because Avdol wanted to stay in Egypt and Polnareff had stuff to do in Europe. so they carried on with this kind of long-distance situationship where they live their day-to-day lives as old bachelors separated by the Mediterranean Sea. but once a year they visit each other and for a couple of days it's that honeymoon phase when you can't get enough of your significant other, they love each other so much it makes me want to throw up. then they go back home and yearn for each other for another year, rinse and repeat
