elizabeth swan and will turner are actually SO romance in the first movie and not enough people acknowledged this because the early 2000s were the age of the edgelords who only valued jack sparrow’s moral ambiguity and that is the TRUTH
the part where she’s like “how many times do i have to tell you to call me elizabeth” and he shyly says “once more, miss swann” and once she walks away he gazes adoringly after her and whispers “elizabeth” to himself like he’s unworthy of it
then when he’s patching up the cut on her hand and she flinches and he says “i know, blacksmith’s hands… they’re rough” because he thinks that’s what’s bothering her HE KNOWS HE’S NOT WORTHY OF HER!!! THAT’S THE PINING I’M TALKING ABOUT BINCH!!! I DON’T ACCEPT LESS!!!!
he has like 10 chances to confess his love to her but waits until he’s dressed like this to do it:
my man knows 1) the importance of a good outfit when shooting your shot 2) how to ACCESSORIZE. take NOTES.
That’s how I would dress if I was gonna confess my undying love to Kiera knightley

Got this talk as an education major too. If you’re going into public service you serve all of the public.
Penelope “Badass” Alvarez
With all the good things I hear about One Day At A Time, I feel like we don’t talk enough about Penelope. (Spoilers ahead but if you haven’t watched this get on that shit it’s definitely 10/10)
She’s one of the most genuine characters that I’ve ever seen portayed on television. She’s a Cuban single mom living with PTSD from serving in the Army. She takes the time to follow her dream of being a nurse practitioner while working and being a mother for her kids, which is an insane amount of work that she struggles with, but perseveres through because she’ll be able to provide for her family.
She’s a total badass, but she’s also super real and relatable.
She can admit when she’s wrong, she’s willing to show her emotions, and she seeks advice when she needs it. She doesn’t try to be the mother that always knows the answers and convince her children that she’s never wrong. She also goes to great lengths to be there for her kids whenever they need it. When she wants to be the best mom possible for Elena when she comes out, she goes to her lesbian friend Ramona from her therapy group. When Alex is facing racism at school, she gives him space and affection as he needs it. Even when she herself is having problems, she shows it and tells them and is never portrayed as weaker for it. Her openness with emotions is one of her strengths and is part of what makes her such a genuine character.
Also can we just appreciate how incredible an actress Justina Machado is?? She can show the incredible depth of Penelope’s emotions and her struggles but also creates a hilarious, fun character.
Also, she is absolutely gorgeous and has a realistic body for a woman her age, not something one generally sees in modern media. I’ve never seen a character like Penelope Alvarez on television and I just have so much love for her and her story. She’s one of my favorite characters on tv and I have so many feelings about her and her absolute badassery.

This is like a round of cards against humanity
awkward when you have a ship full of gay pirates encountering a puzzle with a heteronormative answer.
That is perfect. For those that still don’t understand, maybe this will help …
🖐🏾 Negative. I don’t want no nigga in jail telling me how gorgeous I am. Females on the otherhand crave and need attention. They don’t feel as beautiful as they think they are unless their being told so.
Real talk, my guy, you’re the dumbest bitch alive lmao
I’m not sure why anyone would desert their tasty dessert in the desert.. but you get the point.

We can do it!
You kiddos have no idea how groundbreaking this was. Like there’s a reason THE lesbian website for a billion years was called After Ellen. She changed everything.
oh man you know that feeling that’s like kind of an ache right between your heart and your stomach? like nostalgic knowing of pain? that’s how the scared look in Ellen’s eyes makes me feel.
Look at her hand too and how nervous she is. Every gay and lesbian person knows this feeling, because we know there are assumptions and consequences and there’s no telling how someone will react.
And let no one forget that she suffered consequences for this. It wasn’t just a moment of cathartic unburdening and then business as usual.
Right, she lost her first TV show. She worked hard to get up to where she is today.
Ellen lost her TV show and didn’t get offered another job for the next 3 years. All while facing harsh critic from most of the world. Not to mention that Oprah, who immediately said yes to playing her therapist in this episode, got her own fair share of disrespectful and mostly racist comments. All over this one episode on a sitcom. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe that over 40 million people watched this episode to see the first openly gay character on television.
This is history and it better fucking be in the history books for next generations.
me: *watches ouat season 1 AGAIN*
Emma and Regina: *don’t kiss*
me:
Reasons I believe my friend is secretly some kind of deity
1) First time we spoke was a week after the beggining of freshman year she summed up my entire character and most of the events of my life Sherlock style. I asked her how the hell she knew all that. She just shrugged and said she figured out our entire class already.
2) The one time we had religion class instead of ethics she listened to the teacher for a few minutes, laughed and told me:
“Humans have wished to be gods so much they’ve forgotten they have to ability to create them. Imagination has truly suffered from this ‘monotheism’ stuff.”
I was confused and asked her if she was an atheist. She rolled her eyes and said:
“Oh I believe in god alright. I just don’t think the bastard deserves to be worshipped.”
3) Out of nowhere she gave me this advice:
“The only truth a liar ever told was that lies weren’t going to save you. Don’t become the liar who has to pass that wisdom on, because they speak from experience.”
4) To this day, she has one of those old-timey phones with buttons she only uses to ocassionally call someone. When I asked her why she never got a smartphone she got pouty:
“I hate social media. On Facebook they talk a lot but never say anything. If I wanted to listen to people moan about their problems and ask for help they don’t expect I’d listen to their prayers.” (Notice the choice of words)
5) I noticed she was stiff and I offered her a massage since I’m really good at it but when i started kneading her back I swear to this day those were not muscles I felt. I asked her what she did to turn her muscles into rocks covered with a thin layer of skin and she kinda froze then shrugged and said she was just really, really stiff. My hands hurt after ten minutes when I can usually go for an hour. Next time I offered she seemed surprised and laughed. She still has rocks for muscles.
6) We were having a debate over the way neural pathways are formed (I study biology and she forensics) and I jokingly asked if I could have her brain for study when she dies. She laughed.
“Sure, if you find a way to kill me you can have it. I’m actually curious what you’re gonna find.”
7) One time she was tired and miserable and I tried to comfort her. We both have really dark sense of humor so I told her she could scare the dead out of their graves with that glare. She told me the dead can’t come back and I rolled my eyes and said ‘obviously’ but she continued:
“When you die you descend to the underworld with nothing to lose. To keep you, they give you something to lose. When you want to return, they will demand it back. That’s why nobody ever leaves. The only way out is to never enter.”
8) One day she just came up to me with a disappointed look on her face. When I asked her what was wrong she was quiet for a few seconds and then just told me:
“Betrayals committed in good intentions are still damning. Just… keep that in mind.” Then she left and didn’t speak to me for three days. I still don’t know what she meant but even three years later I haven’t forgotten it.
9) We were casually sitting on a bench when, out of nowhere, she asked me: “Is it just me or have humans gotten dumber? Or have they always been this stupid and I just haven’t been paying attention?”
10) She asked me if I ever wondered what it was like to die. I said no but told her I would tell her when I found out. I meant it as a ghost joke but she smiled at me and said:
“Great. I’ll wait for you to come back. Maybe you’ll even remember me.”
In conclusion, she is some kind of low-key god and she lost her faith in humanity even before we lost our faith in her but she’s stuck with us because immortality is a bitch.
P.S. I just remembered her name is a variation on ‘Eve’. Maybe I should reconsider my atheist status?!
I aspire to be the kind of person that people genuinely believe is an eldritch horror entity
Some guy today mentioned he was in a band to me and I watched him get visibly uncomfortable when I didn’t ask him anything about it. He kept trying to bring the conversation around to his band and I wasn’t budging.
POWER MOVE: Complete and utter disinterest in men’s obsession with their own mediocrity
Im seeing lots of ppl divided in the notes about whether this is a power move or just a dick move. Let’s think about it:
If a person you know or want to know better wants to talk about a facet of their life, sure, it would be a dick move to outright ignore and change the subject without explanation, like “my brain isnt up for this, can we talk about it later instead?” bc ultimately there’s give AND take from two people actually interested in each other’s lives.
However, if this is one of those guys who just wants to talk about himself bc he cant be bothered to talk about anything else, and is used to being praised and fawned over for doing or saying the bare minimum, and you dont Have to Feign your Interest– i would do the same damn thing.
It’s about context. If i dont respond and you keep trying to make the conversation about the same rejected subject, that’s no better than being locked in a convo with one of those boring basic dudes who spout incredibly gross and antisemitic conspiracy theories. Often it’s the same guy in my experience.
The message isn’t “shit on ppl with special interests”
The message IS take no shit, you’re not obliged to listen to someone conversationally jack off.
i taught swim lessons and preschool, do y’all wanna hear the most ridiculous white kid names i’ve ever seen?
i’ve met at least a dozen children named some form of “jackson” but the best ones were “jaxon” and “jakson”
a parent who i really liked named her son “jaycob” because she was worried people wouldn’t pronounce it correctly. when someone accidentally spelled it “jacob” she would loudly and obnoxiously ask “WHO’S JAH-KOBE?”
two siblings named “thor” and “tiara”
i once had a classroom with four girls named “brooklyn”
if you sent me a list of popular boy names, i could guarantee i’ve met every single one of them
twin girls named paisley and brinley
a girl named reader
a boy named rocko
keighleey
kayde
kolten
if it can start with a “k” instead of a “c” i have met that child
brittalynn
i taught a swim class with three girls named “london” but only one of them was spelled “lundon” and i know my boss did that to me on purpose
a couple named all their kids after places in arizona: tatum, payson, and hayden
and speaking of hayden, i’ve seen: haydon, heighden, and heydon
according to some white people, there are sixteen different ways to spell mckenzie
lakelyn, blakelynn
this is white culture
Throwing one on the pile: my nephew has a friend named Kaylube, pronounced Caleb.
I’m told the nurse taking his name at birth did it super fucking wrong, but I don’t believe that for a second. I think his mom regretted her dumbass decision to name a kid Kaylube.
I worked with a lady named Travisty once and no one else at that job understood why I was horrified.
This is so accurate. At school, we literally have children who will watch our facial expressions to see if them falling is as bad as they think it might be.
CORRECT CHILD INJURY PROCEDURE:
do not react. at the most, maybe wince and go “ooooh”
go over to the child to assess panic level and severity of injury
if they’re like, dying, remain calm, but they’re probably not.
look them in the eye and ask, “you okay?” they will nod. possibly all teary-eyed. then ask, “are we gonna need to cut it off?”
the child is thrown off. if they giggle, you’re in the money. if they do not, put a bandaid on and do some sympathetic patting. they are probably a little teary. let the sad little bug sit out for a minute. they will quickly get bored.
works every time
“sad little bug” is the cutest and most accurate term ive heard used to describe a child because sometimes bugs are kinda super cute sometimes bugs are really fucking annoying and sometimes bugs are downright TERRIFYING
My dad used “should we cut it off?” And it worked EVERY TIME.
This can also help you assess how bad the injury really is! If jokes and a calming tone to the situation don’t work, they might be more seriously hurt than usual.
When I worked at the day care I would ask the kid to count my fingers because had too many. The child, confused would count along with me as I obviously skipped a number. They would correct me, and we would try again, and by that time they totally forgot they were injured in the first place.
Not only does this work for minor injuries but I would also advocate this for major ones too. You stay calm, they stay calmer.
I have a scar on the back of my head from when I was a toddler. Mom and Dad told me about how I fell and hit my head and I was bleeding so bad. But they managed to get me to the hospital without any fuss or screaming by staying very calm and making sure I didn’t see the blood.
Parents not overly freaking out is SO important to a kid’s growing threat assessment skills.
this gets funnier with each passing year
Imagine where you could be by January 2019. Now do the work.
