considering the new shop dialogue. i'm seeing a lot of memes about FRIEND wanting protein (eggs) and that's really funny and awesome but this statement further cements the idea to me that the eggs are symbolism for SOMETHING. eggs = protein = ????
underdeveloped thought but considering the religious imagery scattered so fervently across the chapters do yall think it's like? a forbidden fruit thing?
the forbidden fruit is meant to represent knowledge. acquiring knowledge of something forbidden. (forbidden by a higher power, specifically)
i always sorta adopted the theory that the eggs were memories. perhaps kris' repressed memories of the (likely lore important) traumas that they underwent. (the tree acting as symbolism for this repression.)
(a bit of a crazier theory i had with less evidence was that they were specifically memories of past loops within the 'deltarune is a time loop' theory but that is a whole other Canne of Worms and i'm hesitant to believe that theory legitimately, it's more of a 'just a fun thought' thing.)
BUT why would FRIEND want kris' memories?? what purpose would they serve? this theory is crumbling apart in my hands i fear.
this feels remarkably important to me. "when it happens." when what happens dammmnnnnn. this feels like such a trans ralsei joke lowkey but i know it's gotta be way more than that.
ALSO: a piece of flavor text i've never seen anyone mention regarding the eggs is this, which appears when you interact with temmie chapter 1. (tem is also the one who holds YOUR eggs for you each chapter)
this wording has ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS struck me as odd. a black-and-white egg. chat if i held an egg up to your face and said "what color is this" you would not tell me that it's black and white. if the egg was meant to be speckled somehow i feel like that would be reflected in the sprite. IN MY OPINION this feels a lot like an attempt declare to us that this egg is technically "monochrome."
i was writing an essay a while back about every single monochrome thing in deltarune (and why that's important) but i never completed it and it never saw the light of day. but this was a piece.
copies are monochrome, it's been said time and time again. could these eggs be copies of something? copies of memories, copies of something else? i'd love to hear other ppls thoughts with this.
note that monochrome copies are mentioned to be "colored in with care."
perhaps completely unrelated but toriel mentions decorating eggs to look like yoshi's eggs for asriel's birthday. (before they were cooked, which made asriel freak out lol.) maybe foreshadowing but maybe nothing tbh i could see this being a stretch. no i don't think that the eggs will be literally painted and cooked but i think a similar thing could happen in a symbolic way. just not sure what yet.
