It is not hard to link to your Tumblr or Twitter with a vague message like, “If you’re looking for my other works or other ways of supporting me, go here: link.” I have had people buy me coffees after enjoying my fic and asking where to support me. I threw up a link to my Tumblr and people cared enough to follow it. They were fully understanding when I explained in the comments that they could not commission me and I could not link them directly to any donation platform, but they could go to xyz link to read more. And they did! Nobody has to put AO3 directly on the firing line.
Go ahead and commission independently. Just do it anywhere else except on AO3. And then don’t come crying to the community when you, personally, get a C&D from a massive corporation.
AO3 is our bullet shield. Tumblr will pull your shit down. Wattpad won’t fucking protect you. LJ and FF.net already sold our asses for one (1) corn chip. AO3 is trying to protect us, you goddamn lemmings.
If you cannot follow the rules that protect fanspaces, you do not belong in our fanspaces.
The only people who misunderstand this are doing so intentionally and maliciously. Do yourself a favor and block the infants who think this isn’t a big deal.

I think a lot of younger people are seeing this as a moral panic by OP. These are NOT being laid out as moral injunctions! This is not about being good! This is about covering your own ass and keeping fandom away from larger-scale legal trouble. No one is saying “If you break the rules you’re BEING BAD!” They’re trying to tell you “breaking these rules is DANGEROUS for yourself and potentially others as well!”

my life is going so great and so swimmingly. I'm so happy and feel myself getting mentally better after some toxic influences in my life have been removed. there's been some issues (moving, my dog, employment delays) but everything has settled down and I'm getting back into the swing of things (very minor set back looking back) and I feel I'm more successful than ever! different priorities of course (necessary part of growing up) but it's mostly all for the better and I'm compromising ways to continue having certain things in my life. I'm so grateful and appreciative. blessed be the powers that may be 🫰🏼 with everything going on in the world, I know it can be and have been through much worse so I'm very grateful to my own efforts/growth and such for getting me to the place I am now. it does get better.

I think you might have misinterpreted the comic. the joke was how she, an ace person, could forget something as obvious and familiar to other people as sexual attraction! I thought her reaction was so funny I suggested making a daily comic about it.
Lyd is my girlfriend! We’re in love! Passionate lesbian love. For four years now! Since that comic we moved in together and we’ve started building savings for our life together! We talk online (Twitter, we don’t really use tumblr) about struggles we face, homophobia, lesbian history and representation, and the intersection of being gay with being ace, not ace, gender conforming, and gender non-conforming. That comic you’re saying is homophobic might look like it to someone without the context of our life, and maybe it did cause a sapphic woman to feel alienated due to her sexual attraction. I understand that because I’ve felt that way many times from the words of both lgbt and non-lgbt people alike. But it was an accident, and while that can’t take away the damage, I promise that Lyd’s comics showing our happy life together, our posts online, even our youtube channel all do infinitely more good for fellow sapphic women and other lgbt people than this comic did bad. Lyd apologized for the misunderstandings and lack of clarity.
Please stop holding other lgbt people to an impossibly high standard. We have so many enemies in this world, the last thing we need is to be attacking each other for the smallest infractions.

For the people who are wondering how “allosexuals experience sexual attraction” is homophobic: that comment is from 2017, aka, the great wank people liked to call “ace discourse”, which is when a lot of people decided that asexuals don’t belong in the LGBT community and started large-spread harassment campaigns towards asexual people and anyone who defended us. They were called “exclusionists”.
One of the exclusionist “talking points” was that asexuality, just by itself, was homophobic and all asexual people are homophobic, no exceptions. Yes, the whole orientation. Yes, even when there are homoromantic asexuals. No, it didn’t make sense even back then. So of course, to an exclusionist, a statement like “allosexuals feel sexual attraction” is homophobic because it indirectly mentions asexuality, which is homophobic.
Ace discourse was fucking stupid. I hope this helps.

Who else has to use their powers of deduction to figure out what they’re feeling?
It could be from something called Alexithymia. It can happen to anyone, usually when trauma is involved, but it’s a common experience for Autistic people for a couple of extra reasons.
One is that it’s linked to struggles with interoception, and I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Autistic people do tend to have some differences in sensory processing. 🙃
The other is that we’re very often gaslit when it comes to our feelings and experiences, starting from a very early age, which leads to doubting our own reactions to things and never learning how to process, or even recognize, our emotions or their connection to physical sensations.
This is how it often goes for me. I notice physical, sensory, and cognitive changes first and have to work my way backwards to see if there are any big feelings behind it. (And yes, I really did have to do this even when my uncle died.) I might then need help accessing those feelings in order to let them out, which is where music or certain movies come in handy.
What about you? Do you sometimes have to backwards engineer your emotions? And what’s your go-to for bringing them to the surface so they can come out?
I think one reason it took so long for me and my family to realize I'm autistic is because, when I struggled with doing something normally, it would be hard to tell I was struggling because I would just avoid trying to do those things in the first place.
For example, I have a sensory aversion to smooth, hard floors (like tile). So, as a little kid, I would always stay on the carpet whenever possible. If I had to go somewhere with those floors, I would stand on my toes and try to stay on other things (like mats, clothing on the floor, etc). When my parents replaced all of the carpet in our house with smooth vinyl, I suddenly couldn't avoid uncomfortable floors anymore so I begged them to get me some socks. They fought me a lot on that because I "never had issues with it before." But finally, they let me wear socks indoors and now I wear them all the time so I don't have to touch the floor.
I did have issues with those floors! It just wasn't clearly visible because I avoided them as much as possible. They assumed I was fine with them because they didn't see me, like, having a meltdown with bare feet on the tile, because I specifically avoided going on the tile.
I think it's the same thing with speech in my case. Sometimes I struggle to speak out loud, and there have been times when I've broken down crying because I had to say something but couldn't. It didn't become clearly visible until highschool, because I was homeschooled until then, and I couldn't struggle to speak if there was nobody else to speak to in the first place. So, while for some people they figure out their speech difficulties early on, I didn't because there wasn't any opportunity to try speaking to people outside of my immediate family. And then, when I got into highschool, I started to have problems. So, I did the same thing with talking that I did with floors, which was avoiding it. I was just the quiet one that stood in the corner, even if I wanted to say something, because I wasn't sure I could. When I learned that some people use other ways to communicate, like AAC apps, I tried using one once and it was really helpful. But then I told my dad about it and he laughed at me. Because, according to him, I "can talk just fine." And now I'm scared to use my AAC app because I don't know if I need it enough to deserve it. Thanks Dad. 👍
When did I ever "talk just fine," outside of talking to my immediate family? Just because I wasn't scolded by crappy teachers in elementary school for not talking doesn't mean I don't struggle to talk. It just didn't come up earlier because there wasn't a chance for it to. And then in highschool, when I realized talking was hard for me, I started avoiding it.
So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you don't struggle with something because you avoid it... Maybe you avoid it because you struggle with that thing. People don't usually go out of their way to avoid common everyday things for no reason. And just because you've never seen someone have trouble with something doesn't mean they don't when it's something they deliberately avoid in the first place.
