So I’m probably never getting the rest of my wedding photos.

The woman we hired was FANTASTIC the day of; she took amazing photos, she was fun, it was great. When she left the wedding, she said she’d send us some previews in a couple days. The couple days go by but we got married on November 1st, the beginning of Winter Holiday Season, so we didn’t worry about it. Time goes on and we still don’t hear anything. I have her cell phone number so I send her a text asking what’s happening. Don’t get a reply. Some time after that, early 2026, we get a newsletter email from her; I reply to this asking if I’d missed her email or what. She apologizes, saying that she had sent the previews already but would send them again. She also said she had a death in the family at the beginning of the year AND her website and phone got hacked. She sends the preview pictures, which are beautiful, and gives me a new number to contact her at and promises to have the rest of the pictures in a few weeks.

Another month goes by and I hear nothing. I reply to the picture email asking if I’d somehow missed an email. No reply. I text the number she gave me, apologizing for being so pushy. She replies to the test saying she’ll get back to me next week. Next week comes and goes, I hear nothing. I try to text her again, no answer. My wife sends her an email and also doesn’t get an answer. We think she may have blocked us at this point, so Katie googles her website with plans to send something through a contact form if there’s one available.

This is how we find out (via a link to a news website) that our photographer was arrested shortly after our wedding. I’m not going into specifics but I will say that it was a felony.

We’ve given up on the idea of getting the rest of our pictures at this point. Could we try to sue in small claims court? Maybe, but we’re both just… done with this entire thing. We honestly don’t want anything else from her at this point. One of the things we did at our reception was to have disposable cameras at every table so people could take pictures. My grandfather is a shutter bug, so I know he’ll have some. After hearing about this, other family members have been sending us pictures they took. We have pictures. We lost money, but it is what it is.

Anyway, I just wanted to get that off my chest. I’ll try to post something more cheerful soon.

So I just simultaneously did, and possibly didn't lose my job today :)

Very much did in the sense that I literally do not know where my job is at the moment. But, for the time being I haven't been let go because nobody else including the store owner knows where it is either.

So, I don't wanna risk doxxing myself by posting pictures but goddamn am I tempted because this is not a believable event. This is a cartoon problem. For looneytoons.

But yeah, so, I work(ed?) at a kiosk selling boba tea, right? Freestanding kiosk in the mall with full water and electrical hookups and multiple fridges and sinks and a mini kitchen and the works. Fully functional tea shop. Very important to note that it was there last night, The work chat was discussing another issue last night at closing time. I'll get back to this.

It's been showing signs of being on the way out with how business is being handled lately and I've been considering other options, which is probably why I'm not as torn up about this as I should be, but maybe it just hasn't set in yet, but that's not the point. The point is there's been a lot of shit breaking and not being replaced and nobody mentioning anything about it until I walk into work in the morning and have to figure out why shit like the fucking cash register isn't there today. So I'm kinda used to having to ask questions about big things that nobody bothered to update me on. I was out for two weeks recovering from a surgery, so I came to work this morning assuming there'd be some kind of bullshit, yeah?

So, the question I had to ask the chat this morning was:

Not a text I ever thought I'd have to send in sincerity, but there it is. Because what I found instead was a fenced off patch of discolored tiles and a few holes in the floor where my entire place of employment used to be.

And the answer? Nobody knows! It was there last night when the mall closed, and every single trace of the structure and all its contents including drink making supplies and our safe and cashbox was gone when it opened again. And when I say nobody knows, I mean everyone from last night's closers to the actual (former?) owner of the store jad no fucking clue about this until getting that text from me this morning. For once I am actually the first to know. 🎉.

So. I guess I didn't so much lose my job as had it stolen. Not by AI, but good old fashioned hands-on human beings picking it up and carrying it away somehow. All mall security would tell me was that they were instructed not to tell me anything and have us contact our management. Who also don't know anything. And later on I came across some construction workers around the gravesite of the kiosk discussing filling in the holes, asked them about it, and was told that they "weren't at liberty to say".

So, not only is my job gone in the most literal physical sense of the word, but it was taken in some kind of super secret kiosk extraction in the dead of night without any warning or witnesses and nobody is allowed to speak of it. The store owner said she was gonna figure it out 10 hours ago and still no word back.

I don't know what else to say aside from I've been laughing all day and I'm gonna have a hell of a time explaining Schrodinger's Unemployment to the benefits office.

Update that is not an update because I'm basically certain this isn't what actually happened:

My mother in law thinks the FBI took it.

Not any of the other stores around the state. Just the one little kiosk.

Why? Because she loves a conspiracy and is just a little bit extra.

Also because she was around for the massive crackdown on Yakuza-owned businesses in Waikiki (in her homestate) that did actually involve the FBI seizing stores (no confirmation of making kiosks cleanly disappear in the middle of the night though).

Still no word from my job on what's actually going on, but the most likely theory so far is that maybe the kiosk was on lease and got repossessed? The mystery continues

ACTUAL (partial) UPDATE:

According to the owner, based on what she's been able to find out, the kiosk was not removed legally and they're starting a potentially long process of legal action. I hope she gets to sue the shit out of whoever did it but for now at least I know for sure I'm unemployed.

Really hoping for more details in terms of who/why/how, so I'll keep updating if I learn anything.

For now the summary is: An unnamed entity that is most likely mall management (on account of mall security cooperating with them) stole an entire kiosk and all the contents including money and machinery with barely a trace in the middle of the night grinch-style, with zero warning or explanation, and ensured the silence of both security and the construction crew, in an action that was definitely preplanned and illegal, and as far as I know nobody knows its whereabouts.

So now I'm officially out of a job. Because my workplace was literally stolen in the night.

My baby girl Pepper is showing signs of kidney disease. I’m trying not to panic because we caught it early and can hopefully turn things around, but we lost our boy Elwood to kidney disease in 2020 and that was awful. I’ve had Pepper since I moved to Madison in 2014, she’s survived 2 moves, suddenly gaining 2 brothers, the pandemic, and then the addition of a two month old kitten to her space. She’s a tough cookie. We’re going to be fine. Hopefully.

It’s almost 5am here as I start typing this, I’ve been awake-ish since about 3 and actively out of bed since around 4:30. My wedding is today; I didn’t sleep well when I did sleep and think Pepper knew it. When I was trying to get back to sleep and feeling the anxiety of having to try to go through today exhausted, she came in and laid down on my back and started purring. It was amazing, the most relaxing and sweetest thing. I never got back to sleep, but I feel slightly more rested.

I’m not worried about the wedding itself; it’s going to be exactly what my Katie and I want, and will be shared with people we love. My wife made my wedding dress because she wanted me to have something I was comfortable in. She looks beautiful in her suit.

I cannot wait for this to be over lol it’s been so stressful. I’m looking forward to not having to plan a wedding anymore and be able to just hang out with my wife.

Highlights from the wedding:

- Our flower boy, Imp, being so excited to throw petals around and everyone cheering when he did it.

- Everyone going crazy over the “Cryptid Hunt” we set up; my wife has cryptid charm keychains in her etsy shop, and I hid a 8 of them around the reception. People were coming up to me asking where they were hid and getting excited to find them.

- My aunt Amber, who has Down’s syndrome, bringing me a box of candy from our candy table because she wanted to make sure I got some. She still called me Sarah and before I let it go because I didn’t think she’d get it, but this time I told her that my name is Paxie now. She called me Paxie the rest of the night. Shame on me for not believing in her.

- Our photographer taking some amazing couple’s pictures and just being a boss

- We didn’t do speeches or a first dance, but the one thing I wanted was a picture of me and Imp dancing to Dance Magic by David Bowie. This was his first time meeting me so he was a little shy but we got the pictures and it was lovely. The best part though was that the Game Chops version of City Escape from Sonic Adventure 2 started playing and he went feral. It was amazing. And they we played Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen and he just boogied on down. It was wonderful.

-Seeing my friends fro Chicago; they live so close but I never get to see them because of schedules and such.

- Walking down the aisle with my stepdad on one arm and my uncle Doug on the other

- Everyone enjoying the collection of board games we had available (still don’t know if anyone touched the Ouija board or not)

- Having the best night of my life with the woman I love

I am still so tired, so I’m about to have some coffee and eat leftover wedding cake for breakfast.

I guess this is my thing now; I don’t update for a while but then I come back with a bunch of pictures and a rambling.

Things are about the same as they were the last time I updated; Katie and I are working towards our wedding, which is fun but also sad in its own way. My cousin and her family that live in Norway aren’t able to come, which was always a possibility but still makes me sad. Her daughter, Fia, was going to be the ring bearer alongside my other cousin’s little boy, whom I call Imp, as the flower boy; Katie’s niece, Ellie is the ‘official child wrangler’, helping the littles down the aisle. Imp and Ellie will still be walking down the aisle, but we’ve updated the website to say that Fia is performing her duties remotely, something Katie came up with when I didn’t want to completely remove her. I love her so much.

The Big Gay Pride Market was last weekend (6/13-6/15) and I’m more than a little sad about it. It was a fun weekend, it always is! But it wasn’t as profitable as I would have liked. We made back our booth fee, which wasn’t cheap, and Katie sold some of her own stuff for the first time and did AMAZINGLY… but then I see people doing the same stuff as me talking about how it was their best show ever and the doubt starts creeping in. My stuff isn’t good enough, my stuff isn’t likable… but the truth is my stuff is not the viral stuff you see on instagram. I don’t make cows in overalls, or dinosaurs that look like food, or cats that look like fruit. I make cryptids (occasionally in pride flag colors), pickles with butt cheeks because that’s funny as hell to me, and Bongo the Confidence Squid keychains because he believes in you. Point being, it’s not that my stuff isn’t good, I’m just not doing what everyone else is doing, and that’s okay. I’m doing what makes me happy. I’m not expecting this to be a full time job, and I need to stop selling myself short.

I also need to start taking more pictures for the etsy store, one pic isn’t great for SEO.

I mentioned that I started a Twitch Channel recently; I was streaming pretty consistently until everything got stressful and depressing and I didn’t want to subject people to me being miserable for 2 hours at a time. I have a tumblr for that. Anyway, I’m going to try to get back to it, if not this week then next. Just need to figure a few things first.

That’s about it for me, I’ll try to update more than once a month but make no promises.

What else is going on… my wedding is happening in November and I’m excited! RSVPs are trickling in slowly, got the sweetest “regretfully decline” from a friend that may get hung in a frame because it was so nice. Found out that Amazon emails me whenever someone buys something off our registry so I know what we’re getting before it arrives and I’m hiding it in my closet until the wedding so Katie can be surprised.

My beloved is starting to have her art turned into products that she plans to sell! Her first time selling at a market is going to be at the Big Gay Pride Market June 13th-15th and I’m hoping she does better than me. You can see some of her stuff on her instagram, Atomikit_Studio

I’ve started doing a crafting stream on Twitch! I haven’t done it for a few weeks, been busy with market prep, but if you want to know when I go live, follow InternetAuntiePaxie! It’s mostly just me talking about whatever while I crochet for about 2 hours, but I enjoy.
